Ace Hardware

I have had several problems at this store. One time I went in for paint. I specifically asked for the ACE paint, with ACE on the can, in a color I had picked out. The manager came over and mixed it up. It took a few minutes as he seemed easily distracted. I took it to the front to pay and the clerk rang it up. Well, it came up as a few dollars more than what the tag on the shelf said. So, I questioned it. Turns out the manager had mixed up Clark & Kensington paint which was more expensive. He came over and I said I had specifically asked for the ACE paint which was on sale and did’nt want to pay the difference since he mixed up the wrong paint. He tried to tell me that Clark & Kensington IS Ace paint. I guess it is made by Ace, however that was NOT what I asked for. He still tried to get me to pay for it anyway. I had to threaten that I did’nt want the paint at all if he would not honor the price for the paint i ASKED FOR. He finally, reluctantly relented. The guy is a bozo! Have witnessed him playing pop-​a-​shot in the rental dept. while the store was busy. Also, had an issue with a rental that malfuntioned on the job and when we returned the item, asked for a discount on the item for the trouble we had with it. NOPE, nothing! The manager said, «people try to do this all time» (get a free rental saying they had a problem with it). Well, we DID have an issue and all we asked for was a discount for the trouble we had with it and that we did’nt get the job done. NOPE, nothing. VERY unapologetic. Filed a complaint, talked to the store owner, who stood behind the manager and never offered any kind of compensation. Overall, won’t shop there and very badly managed. Will DEFINATELY go to the Ace in Richmond, IL. Very nice people, very accomodating and the owner is in store most of the time and very nice.

I love my hardware store. I live in twin lakes, and any time I have a problem, they walk me through. Forget Home Depot. Shop in your local store and keep it thriving. I will always be a loyal customer.

This is a huge Ace Hardware with a small town feel.
I must first mention the free popcorn and coffee when you enter the store. Are you kidding me? I must admit the popcorn was really good. I did not have the coffee because it was close to noon and it looked like it might have been sitting there a while. But I will tell you that is a nice perk to have. I also found out they have donuts on the weekends. Really? This is small town America.
The Ace has everything you could ever want. Plus it has employees who actually work. Can you believe all the screw drivers are locked up? Really!!! You need to get an employee to unlock the glass case to see one. No one is going to steal one of these. The screwdrivers are on lock down!!! I did find this a little annoying as the ACE employee hovered over me. It was too much pressure for me. I sent her away and looked through the glass until I found what I wanted.
I wanted a 5 gallon no spill gas can but they were out of them. I saw a yellow one but they would not sell it to me. They told me it was for Kerosene and it was illegal for me to put gas in there. I had no idea about the rules on carrying flammable liquids in color coded containers. There was also a blue one too and I had no idea what flammable liquid I would carry in there. Nitrogen? I know I’m getting sarcastic. All I know is came here for a no spill 5 gallon gas can and a screw driver. I was clearly not getting a gas can. Yes they were out of stock.
So I walked out with a $ 11 screw driver and a $ 4 sprinkler which looks like the dancing waters at Bellagio in Las Vegas. In fact, by turning on the faucet in my kitchen I made the water dance to music. It was quite funny.
This location has everything but the prices are very high. I guess that is the cost of location. If you went to a Home Depot or Walmart, then you would probably save some money. In fact, this store wasn’t even on Unilocal… I had to add the business. Look out ACE all the people with smart phones will start showing up!!!
