Use to love this place but last several times we’ve gone over the past year food has been terrible. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt of having an off night but can no longer. Charged $ 18 for a raw oyster plate with the smallest oysters I have ever seen. Other food was poorly done and greasy. This place has gone down the tubes, it’s a shame.

I thought I would give it another try after 3 years. It was a mistake. Frozen seafood, over cooked and tasteless. Bar crowed was loud! Never again!

This place is consistently good. The service is friendly and the food comes in a fairly speedy manner. The fish & chips have seemed to shrink in size but they’re good.

We went on a Saturday for brunch. It wasn’t busy at all. A few people at the bar and two tables, that was it. Service was alright. I was overwhelmed by the huge selection of items on the menu. I kept it simple and ordered the clam chowder. My husband had the lobster ceviche and for my son, I ordered him a chicken strip basket. When I got my soup, it looked delicious! As I was going to take my first bite, I noticed a short hair on my bowl(it must have belonged to a man). Great! I waited for the waiter to show up. He never did. I ended up asking another waitress to take it off my ticket. She gladly did. When our waiter returned, he had no idea what had happened. He didn’t even seem apologetic about the soup. The lobster ceviche did taste good. The only thing was that it was served as a dip with chips. The chicken in the chicken strip basket was horrible. The chicken was overcooked and the strips looked like chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. You would think as much as Breakers charges, they’d have REAL chicken in their baskets. It was gross! Service was blah and food… well, I left still hungry. I won’t be going back.

Went on a Tuesday and they were having unlimited crabs! Yes they are pricey but isn’t seafood generally speaking? Good atmosphere. Outside isn’t very appealing but inside is pleasing. Will be back there.

Had dinner here about 3 years ago and was not impressed at all by the food, however, The wait staff was courteous and the service was fine. I decided to come once more with friends, this time to try their bar and was mortified! The bartender made a very explicitly rude and mean comment to one of her friends about my girlfriend and when it was brought up to her, she took our drinks and we were asked to leave. She then cursed us said she would have us escorted out. I was shocked!!! As we were leaving and apparent friend of this bartender was mouthing us as well and physically hit my girlfriend in the face as we were leaving. I, nor my girlfriend live in Tyler but know many people who do, so it was fairly easy to find out who the owner of the establishment was. So we called the restaurant and asked to speak to the owner and was denied because he was«too busy.» So we dug deeper and found out that the owner was in fact too intoxicated to handle the matter. After being treated so terribly, it’s obvious that we will NEVER step foot in that place again when we visit. Service like this should bring shame to the Tyler community.

We’ve been thinking about trying Breakers for awhile and decided to take the plunge. We arrived on a Friday night about 6:00 before the crowd came in. The menu is large and covers all the bases so if you’re not into seafood there’s a lot from which to choose. We started with the lobster bisque and seafood gumbo and also ordered oysters Rockefeller. The bisque was tasty but only had very few small pieces of lobster. The seafood gumbo was just okay and barely warm. The oysters Rockefeller were outstanding, in fact some of the best I’ve ever had. They were perfectly seasoned and the highlight of our meal. My dining partner had the steamed mussels and a small salad. The mussels had good flavor but were way over cooked. They should have served it with a baguette for good measure. I had the tilapia and shrimp and it was very good, perfectly seasoned and well-prepared. Our server(Sally) was very helpful and attentive. She also gave us some good tips and accommodated a special request. Breakers really deserves more than three stars but it’s not quite four stars. Don’t let that scare you, it was very good and we will definitely be dining here again.

My mom and I spotted this place and popped in to try it out. It looked really nice inside, the hostesses were very nice and we were seated very quickly but once we looked at the menu we realized that this place was waaaaay out of our budget. I would have loved to have eaten there and tried it out, but I didn’t want my mother to end up spending $ 75 for two people just on lunch. Maybe we’ll try to eat there again for a birthday or special occasion.

This place used to be good. They have amazing and unexpected vegetarian options. When I would spring for some oysters, this was my favorite place, as well as a great date night option. However, it has consistently declined. My husband ordered this great looking sandwich from its picture on the menu, which looked like a big piece of battered cod, fish and chips style, on a po’ boy style roll… but what came out of the kitchen was a little chicken-strip-looking piece of catfish on a cold hamburger bun with a sad piece of lettuce and one lone onion circle. I ordered paella, which was equally disappointing and almost a soup… and had more bacon in it than seafood, which wasn’t cool. Bacon or pork was not listed in the ingredients and while I expect that different animal products will probably be used in broths or bases of dishes and just roll with it, I never would have ordered it as it actually was. There was vomit in the bathroom, and it was not mine. The server noticed we were less than thrilled and gave us a complimentary crème brule… Which came out immediately, and was obviously old. Went to Fresh to pick up some charcoal pills to take to absorb whatever was in this food and luckily faired better than their previous patron. Unfortunately, I will never be back. One star for the waiter at least trying and for the California theme.

I’ve been here twice: once for drinks, and once for dinner. If you sit at the bar, good luck getting service if you’re dressed like a normal human being. If you wreak of patchouli, and scream hipster, you’re golden! On a warm night, you’ll see the patio littered with hipsters, and most likely, you’ll get a whiff, or two, of some funny smelling smoke. And no, I’m not talking about cigars:) On my second visit, I actually ate in the bar. Once again, we couldn’t get service, at the actual bar, so we moved to a high top in the bar. Our server was really good, and apologized that we were ignored at the bar. I took his recommendation, and went with the shrimp and grits. I was pleasantly surprised, as it was really good. I’d definitely come back to Breakers solely for that entrée. All in all, it’s a decent joint– pricey beer and drinks, really good food, and spotty service. Oh, and if you like hipsters, you’ll be in Heaven! A-OK

Great local restaurant. Be warned this is a very laid back atmosphere. No rush, just take time to sit back and talk to friends and relax. I had the pineapple shrimp with veggies. Fresh pineapple with bacon and shrimp wrapped and grilled. It was great! They have live local music on weekend nights occasionally. Haven’t been there for that. … but enjoyed the quiet weeknight atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Consistently good food and service in a clean, happy Island Atmosphere with an always friendly staff! Salmon Salad with the delicious fish and Fresh Green Apple is my Fav, but the Baja Tacos with Shrimp and homemade chips are outstanding. The perfect Monday lunch spot, makes starting the week not so bad

We were initially excited to stumble upon this place as we’re seafood lovers. Upon arrival my son and I we’re seated at the smallest two’-top table in the place while 4 booths remained unbussed with dirty dishes. Took 10 minutes for the first waitstaff to arrive. The server took our drink order and then promptly forgot one of the drinks until I reminded him 15 minutes later. Ordered our starters and mains only to discover there was no live lobster(seafood tank was empty). After 20 minutes I had to remind the waiter to bring our cups of chowder which arrived 30 seconds before our mains. If I had to rate the place on food alone I would probably give 3 – 4 stars. The clam Chowder was actually very good and my oysters were decent. The two stars definitely come from the front of house and décor. Giant hole in the men’s room wall didn’t enhance the experience. Potential to move up in rating if they get their service issues addressed.

The food here is pretty great. Fish is always cooked right and they have this mango cheesecake that sounds strange but tastes amazing. The problem with Breaker’s is the service. I don’t think they ever have more than two servers at a time so even though the servers are very nice, service is extremely slow and not great. I wish that they would have more people working so that each table could get good service, and I don’t blame the servers, it seems like more of a scheduling issue to me. Go for the good seafood, but expect to stay a long time, because everything takes a while.

My wife and I happened to be passing by this place and decided to give it a try. We arrived around 3 in the afternoon and the first thing we noticed was that the smoking area appeared to be right in front of the main entrance. We had to walk through a group of people smoking to enter the restaurant.(And later, exiting. Once inside, we noticed only 2 other tables had been seated and assumed it was because of the early afternoon time. We were seated promptly and, once seated, our drink orders were taken. While we waited for our drinks, I decided to check in via Unilocal and discovered the low ratings given to this site. I looked around and thought to myself that the ambience was pleasant and wondered why the low ratings. After reading a few, my wife and I decided we would, as we always do, give the place a fair shake and ignore the ratings for now. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the calamari(we «always» have to try the calamari wherever we go to try and find the best) and both orders arrived very quickly. While my wife took her sweet time trying to decide what she wanted off the wide selection of seafood dishes on the menu, I dove into my clam chowder… it was delicious! Even my wife, who really doesn’t care for chowder, said it was very good. Next we tried the calamari and were both stunned at how good it was. We had to admit that, of the dozens of places we’ve tried calamari around the United States, this was at or near the best in flavor, texture, and preparation. It was complimented with small containers of ranch dressing and what I can only describe as a combination of marinara and salsa. Very good! Now, we get to the heart of my low rating… my wife finally decided what she wanted to have and we placed our orders for Mahi Mahi and salmon. And we waited. And waited. And our waitress stopped by and apologized for how long the order was taking about 20 minutes after it was put in. And we waited. And waited some more, never seeing our waitress again until, 45 minutes after our order had been placed, I got up and walked back to the kitchen where I ran into our waitress bringing out our dishes. I let her know we couldn’t wait any longer because of a previously scheduled visit to a relative at a local hospital. I told her we were ready to go and needed our ticket. Her excuse to us was that the kitchen had misplaced our order. I could probably forgive that if it wasn’t for all the reviews that mentioned long wait times for food deliveries. That, and the fact we were only one of three tables with patrons sitting at them. In summary, after reading the reviews about how slow the service was, we wanted to give the place a fair chance and did. And they disappointed yet again. While the food that we had was delicious, the wait time between placing our dinner order and it’s delivery was unacceptable. The manager should start reading some of the reviews and see if there is something they have in common(to eliminate those«planted» reviews) and try to correct these kind of issues. We want to try the main dishes but are too afraid to deal with the extremely long wait times for our food.

Tyler has a severe shortage of good seafood. Breakers helps to fill the void. They have a good selection, not your typical fried fare. Bluepoint oysters are delish and much better than Gulf. Try the shrimp n grits or Seafood Provencal, you wont be sorry. My wife love the snow crab. I enjoy good Ceviche, but theirs is just average. The bar is tiny, but they have live music on the weekends.
