I was looking for a new place to get my eyes checked that took their time with their patients instead of the fast pace in and out offices and I found a great place! The staff is stellar, they took their time with each patient. The quality of care they provide was top notch. The equipment seems very up to date too. The Dr Chism was very informative, also took his time checking my eyes. Glad I found them thru Unilocal

I got glasses for 150(100 for the frames) and a 6 month supply of acuvue contacts for 180. I’m not sure how much the appointment’s cost was. When they gave me contacts to try on after the exam I still couldn’t see clearly so they went back and checked my vision and gave a second pair that were great. I was disappointed in the selection of glasses and most of the staff was rude.

The one aspect I really miss about living in larger cities is that I would utilize Unilocal to research Doctors. Unfortunately, a lot of people in Texas, just don’t find the need to Unilocal their little hearts out over Doctors, etc. Texas Unilocalers seem to mainly focus on restaurants. So, with this said, after moving to Tyler, it’s been a «word of mouth» search for new Doctors. A struggle indeed… Upon entering Dr. Chism’s office, I thought I was placed back in time, as his office is still trapped in the 80’s. Personally, I could care less what the décor is– my main concern is the knowledge of the Doc, staff, and I don’t need someone pushing a «new» contact lens brand on me, as I’m happy with the brand I’m currently wearing. Dated décor aside, once I went back for testing, and the exam, I noticed the equipment that they use is actually modern, and the staff, and Doc are very knowledgeable. Dr. Chism is a cool cat– kinda’ like someone you’d expect seeing on 6th Street in Austin. But, don’t let his mellow vibe fool you, because he’s dead on accurate with his knowledge. I have a weird freckle on my eye, and only one optomestrist has ever had enough intelligence to know exactly what this is. Chalk up Dr. Chism as the second. I also like how the Doc, and staff did NOT try and pressure me nto a new brand of contacts. They were super relaxed, and said whatever suits you(i.e. the patient) best. In addition, their prices for contacts, unlike most Doctor’s offices, were actually lower than their on-line competitors. I was shocked at how low the price was when checking out. All in all, it was a positive experience, and I will continue using Dr. Chism– hopefully for years to come.

I was referred to Dr. Chism because he’s in my network and closest in proximity, but I have to say I was really impressed with the service here. I’m new to the area and felt very welcomed by his staff. Their eye exam was slightly different from what I’m used to, with the addition of their optomap technology to foresee any health complications. I was hesitant to pay $ 25 more for it, but then again you can’t be too cheap with your eyes… especially when you’re working 7 – 5 everyday in front of a computer like me. They answered all my questions, and were so friendly in asking about me too. After my eye exam I had to pick out frames, which took forever. The staff was patient with my indecisiveness and lack of opinion when it comes to what compliments me and doesn’t. They were honest about the designs and how they suited me, and didn’t try to sell me expensive glasses I didn’t need. A lady was responsible for helping me pick out frames, but I felt like the whole staff was on a mission to help me find the best glasses for me! They saw something in a catalog that they thought would suit me, and they decided to put in an order for it before I made my decision. Lo and behold, I went with their expertise and ended up picking a design and color that I never would’ve picked out for myself. :) Overall, Dr. Chism’s staff is very friendly and doesn’t make you feel like they’re trying to sell you things you don’t need or want!
