The food is good, but not super flavorful. I had to add salt to everything, including the salsa. It’s probably one of the better Mexican restaurants in Tyler though. Their service is lacking, but that’s because they get a lot of business and don’t have enough servers, but they are all polite.

Best Mexican food in Tyler that I had so far everything is homemade, fantastic and you can smell the tortillas being made from a mile away! I just love it very much.

LOVELOVELOVE this place!!! Super flavorful enchiladas. Best I’ve ever had probably. Rice, delicious. Salsa is good with a little sweetness, which actually works. Add the green to it. Only criticism is that the queso is definitely not the best. Tastes like can cheese with shredded cheese and salsa added to it. If I lived here, I’d be back weekly at least.

Not as good as I’d hoped. Really wanted this to be better, but it’s near the bottom of my Tyler Taco Tour. Why? Taste and texture fell quite flat. Ground beef had no pizzaz or savor to it. The taco was soggy and wet with the toppings leaking all over. I picked it up and it peed all over the plate. I tried a cheese enchilada. It was not good. The cheese paste on the top was cheap canned oily-paste-like cheese product. Not a good rich Mexican-style cheese I would like. All in all, this place might have been good at one time, but that time is not today. Rowdy and Fuzzy’s taco joints beat this place by a Texas mile. Finally, I was really put off that I couldn’t order a la carte… I wanted a taco and an enchilada — nothing more. Instead I had to pay for the lunch specials @$ 6.99 and deal with rice, beans, chips and extras I really did not want. I ended up spending twice what I wanted and wasting all sorts of food. I’m really disappointed — I’ve been anticipating this place for a long time: It’s not in my usual stomping grounds in Tyler — I set aside extra time and made a special trip for this. Very bummed.

In for breakfast today having Smoked Sausage Burrito and Horchata drink. Very good. Nice setting and close to airport. Have been here prior for lunch and was also very good. I will probably return next time in town. Nice larger portion burrito here. Just right.

Update… YOUARENOW5STARS!!! Why? Because I’ve been eating here for a year and EVERY single time it is EXCELLENT! ALWAYS worth my money! Not just dine in but to-go orders as well! The waitstaff is friendly and prompt, the food is always on point. You’re doing something very right my friends. PS… your guacamole is the best… and I’m not just saying that.

Four of us ate there on Sunday around noon. By Monday afternoon, all four of us were very sick. I called them on Tuesday to let them know there could be a problem and they were very defensive and really uncaring. Based on what we all had to eat, we believe it was the order of Guacamole we all shared. Based on getting very sick and their attitude, we will not be back.

In a town stuffed to refusal with Mexican and TexMex restaurants, La Plazita has always been a respite from soylent corporate slop. I wish they hadn’t nixed the rib eye fajitas — that was one of the best kept secrets in East Texas. However, lunch today was excellent. I ordered chicken enchiladas and told the waitress to surprise me with the sauce. When my enchiladas arrived, the chef had whipped up the best tart tomatillo green sauce I have ever tasted(including — like the California«reviewer» — Mexico City, Vera Cruz and all over the Yucatan). Our service was prompt and friendly though they were packed for lunch. Yes, this a family restaurant and I hope it will be around for generations.

Awful! I was hopeful from the outside appearance that they would serve authentic Mexican food. Worst food in a long time! They apparently do not use any seasoning in anything. I have had better queso on nachos at a single«A» baseball game. Their green sauce is a disaster. The crunchy beef taco dripped grease and was soggy. They attempt to make the food worth the money with outrageously sized portions, however, large portions of crap are still crap. Avoid this place at all costs.

Stale chips, queso tastes like melted velveta and extremely bland. Unfriendly waitress who you knew did not want to be there. The enchiladas were decent but definitely not good enough to make me come back.

This place was OK. When I first walked in, there was no sign regarding ‘seat yourself’ or ‘wait to be seated’ so I stood there for bit, confused as to what I was supposed to do. There counter where you pay at exit is a window to the kitchen area near the entrance that made me think I had wondered into another dreaded counter service restaurant. Finally, a young man walked around the corner and asked«Can I help you?» I responded by asking if it’s seat yourself or wait to be seated and he seemed surprised I was there to eat! Not a good sign! He was certainly friendly enough as he and another very friendly waitress waited on me during my visit and I can’t say I had any issues with service other than a little confusion as I walked in. Like others have noted here, the salsa is a bit sweet but not too unpleasant. Chips seem like they came right from a bag. I ordered some chili con queso to start and it was worth it. As far as the green sauce goes, thanks to the Unilocalers that pointed that out. Definitely the star of the show tonight… and yeah, it kicks. I ventured out of what I would typically order at a Mex place and ordered fish tacos. I enjoyed the fish tacos but they didn’t hit it out of the park for me. I did like the rice but thought the beans were a bit runny for my tastes. In all, since it’s so close the airport, if I’m back in town I’ll probably come back by but I’m going to try some of the other items mentioned here by the other Unilocalers.

Maybe I am really picky… ok…i am really picky. I live in San Diego and have some of the best Mexican food there is.(We are near the border so it better be good). The rice is dry. Service wasn’t good. Once we got our food she never came and checked on us. We all needed drink refills and she or no one else came to fill up our drinks. They only have Menudo on the weekends(which was why we went) but they didn’t have any! We should have left once they told us they were out of Menudo. Authentic Mexican food? I think not!!!

You poor people! I hope these reviews are made by the staff, but due to how illiterate everyone in the place is I highly doubt it. We ordered a bowl of queso that we had to remind our waiter to get. When it finally came to is it tasted like shredded cheese and milk mixed together. Disgusting. I got the cheese chimichanga and the topping was nothing more than canned wolf brand chili. After squeezing out a gallon of grease I decided to stop before I got sick. The other person with us got the cheese quesadillas. All I could do was watch the stream of grease hit the cold beans underneighth. Do not go to this place if you care about things such as health or possibly sanitation. Judging by these reviews it doesn’t make a difference, though.

La Plazita f’n nailed it! I came in here for a late lunch, and was immediately greeted, then seated. The lone server brought me some chips and salsa, while I perused through their menu. The salsa was unique, as it was somewhat sweet. It was damn tasty, as I devoured almost all of it, while I waited for my entrée. For my entrée, I went with the California Quesadilla. This was definitely unlike any quesadilla I’ve ever eaten before. It was more like a burrito, filled with seasoned fajita chicken, cilantro, pico, avocado and cheese. Absolutely amazing, with awesome flavor! Friendly service, great food, and good sized portions. I will definitely be back for lunch. Soon!

It’s ok Tex– Mexican food, tamales are decent but not«real» Mexican food.(at least not what I have tried here) lots of American type cheese and ground beef. Beans and rice are standard issue.

What can I say, I stuff my face here for lunch several times a month. This place is off the normal grid and is really a hidden gem. The carne asada is yummy, as well as everything else I have tried. Want something hot? Ask for their Green Sauce. It’s amaze-balls, and will light you up. It gets crowded at lunch so sometimes seating is tight. You pay at the window on the way out, so wait till the line is short and dash up to the counter. Tell ‘em your table number.

I have been on a taco kick lately so when we went to Tyler for the weekend I wanted to find a nearby place to get some tacos. The existing reviews for La Plazita were good so we went on in. The building was fairly new and the people weren’t rude at all, but not overflowing with niceness either. I ordered the taco dinner plate with two al Pastor and one chorizo taco. Both varieties were very good, but the al Pastor was the better of the two. Make sure to ask for the«green sauce» if you like a little spice. It’s got quite a kick. All the food was very fresh and had a homemade feel to it. I would definitely go back again if I return to the area.
