Hands down the best restaurant around Roseburg! The food is consistently good. It’s also one of the only health food restaurant options around here. Ingredients are super fresh and I’m not kidding when I say that everything is made with love. All the staff is incredibly friendly, and since they are all volunteers you know that the friendliness is very genuine. The restaurant is tucked away in the country, just out of town, with beautiful views all around it. On a sunny day I suggest eating in the garden. Gluten free bread and cookie options are delicious, which is a major plus because few places in Roseburg cater to gf needs. Their bread is baked on site, so if you reserve in advance you can take home a delicious gf loaf on Wednesdays. Highly recommended; you will not be disappointed!

CONS: ive been a vegetarian for 20 years and have never tasted a veggie burger so awful. Undercooked mushrooms and a morning star brand veggie patty(I know because they were a staple childhood dinner). Overpriced and disgusting. The potato side was burnt and bland PROS: The staff were nice and the place was clean(especially for the boonies of Oregon). Also the pastries and gelato(for being vegan) were quite tasty, if you decide to go, the carrot cake was the best menu item. I was staying in Roseburg visiting family and found that the veggie burger at Saluds in Roseburg was 1000 times better. This place seems suitable for a milk-toast from Oregon however, for someone raised in an urban area where the food/restaurant industry is diversified and highly competitive, this will not be a satisfying meal. .

Umpqua, OR. Zip code 97486. This outstanding bakery makes up the other half of the two businesses that ARE the town of Umpqua. The post office is the other half. No lie! The kind gentleman with the dark hair elaborated on the significance of their restaurant. Just as he shared, many of us know of Umpqua Bank, and Umpqua Ice Cream, but who knew about the town of Umpqua? I sure didn’t. The two roads that intersect outside the restaurant bring together those living, working, and traveling in the Umpqua Valley. The restaurant feeds both locals and tourists, as other Unilocalers have shared. Stop in early in the day to have a chance to try a variety of delicious bakery goodies, including some gluten free choices in cookies and breads. They taste as yummy as and have the texture of non gluten free products. I had the Powerhouse Sandwich: homemade quacamole, havarti cheese, tomato, cucumber, and spinach on slices of gluten free(gf) bread by request. Very filling and satisfying. I took my two, delicious gluten free chocolate chip cookies to go but had to try their house crafted vegan chocolate ice cream, made with coconut milk. A delicate chocolate flavor but hits the spot for«ice cream». They do offer a non vegan option as well. This bakery is worth the 10 – 15 detour off I-5!

My sister and I drove out, indulged in the famous carrot cake. WOW. Just wow. Fantastic! So moist and everything organic. Huge pieces full of delicious raisins, carrot shavings and I think pecans. Covered in a heavenly cream cheese frosting. We could only finish half of our slices lol. Highly recommend!

This café is a unique Douglas County offering, a must-do on your list while visiting or living in the area. It is clean, well run, with delicious wholesome bakery and vegetarian lunch offerings, as well as some natural food grocery items. The café offers beautiful countryside views, indoor and outdoor eating, and wonderful service with employees who are poised, calm, and cheerful. We especially enjoy the salads, sandwiches, and specials, including occasional pizza night. All proceeds go the to Lighthouse Community, with tips going to local non-profit service organizations. After eating here, you’ll feel like you nourished your body and soul.

Not far off the I5 we had penciled this café in for lunch based on Unilocal reviews. Well worth the extra few miles detour. Really brilliant –really brilliant. I had a pinto bean and coconut soup that was amazing, plus an Asian salad with mandarin segments, my husband had a veggie burger, and the kids various sandwiches plus we devoured carrot cake and cheesecake. Homemade bread, organic, local, non GMO, flavors and seasoning spot on –this café rocks. Prices were low too. Will always stop here if we drive this way again.

I wish I lived near Umpqua I would go to this place every day! My friend and I were traveling north and stopped here to eat lunch. I had the guacamole burger and it’s probably one of the best ones I’ve had — vegetarian or not. I would recommend stopping by and trying their delicious food. :)

Growing up in Sutherlin, coming back and going to the Lighthouse feels like walking in the twilight zone. In a area dominated rednecks with pickups trucks, fast food and chain restaurants, and Wal-Mart lovers, lies this little vegetarian bakery in the middle of the country… and it’s packed to the gills every day they are open! And not just by the random hippies in the area, by the good ol’ boys too. I saw a 300 lb logger in Husqvarna suspenders eating a Veggie Club! WTF is going on? Although I am still stumped on how anyone ever got a bunch of backwoods ultraconservatives to walk into a vegetarian bakery and try it, it’s not surprising that they keep coming back once they have. Their fresh baked breads are fantastic, their food is made to be good(not just vegetarian good), and they have a pretty impressive selection of health food items that is hard to match within 100 miles of there. Shit, they had items I can’t find at the Whole Foods by my house. I couldn’t be happier to see a place like the Lighthouse raise the standard on what eating out in Douglas County means these days. Local ingredients used to make fresh food daily by people who care. You’re movin up in the world Umpqua!

Let me preface this review by saying that neither Rose nor I are vegetarians or vegans, nor do we believe those are particularly healthy diets. However, we’ve both had vegetarian dishes that were quite good, so when we realized there was no meat on the menu, we had no problem with that. We stumbled on this café quite by accident on our way home to Roseburg from Umpqua. I had tried some of their bread, purchased at a farmers’ market, and loved it. But I didn’t know where their business was based. The place was busy… the numbers of cars in the parking lot is what initially clued us in that something was there. There were no signs at all on the highway to let you know there was a restaurant there. The décor was interesting and the staff was polite, but reserved. Rose chose the mushroom burger and I had the Reuben. I asked the gentleman at the counter to explain the vegetarian corned beef(that’s just what the menu said)! Of course it was formed soy protein with no real beef, with the pickling spices usually associated with *real* corned beef. The sandwich also had sauerkraut(which was really good) and Swiss cheese which appeared to be real cheese(so I guess it wasn’t strictly vegan). It was all on grilled rye. I believe the bread was very good, but it was grilled with lots of oil, so it was hard to tell. Rose said her mushroom burger was good, and a lot like a recipe she had made for us a few months ago. However, the roasted potatoes that came with it were a bit to heavily seasoned for her. If we’re ever in that vicinity at lunch time again we might stop in, but I doubt we’ll ever make a special trip there. But if you are a serious vegetarian you might want to check it out. «Rose’s Café» #rosescafe1

So you exit I-5 and in minutes you’re in the middle of nowhere, and just when you think your GPS must be wrong, The BEST vegetarian bakery and café is suddenly right in front of you! I can not possibly add all my recommendations to what has been written. Just go and be amazed and happy!

If you are ever near Roseburg, do not miss stopping in at this amazing bakery/café. I wish we had a café/bakery like that where I live. I would be there all the time! The sandwiches are heavenly — especially the portabello mushroom which is my favorite. Every order has such a beautiful presentation. It does not matter how busy they are. Each order is served with perfection. There is no bread like this anywhere else that I have ever had. And the baked goods — wow! They are constantly trying new things and all are good. I especially like the biscotti, monkey bars and carrot cake — yum! Thank you Lighthouse Bakery/Café staff for creating such a wonderful place to eat and meet friends!

Three years ago before moving to Roseburg and this placed fascinated me. While I cannot remember what I first got I have gone there a number of times with friends and family, I have gotten the chocolate chip cookie and it was delicious the chocolate was gooie and there’s walnuts which made it so tasty. The Veggie Club is wonderful and very yummy. Their homemade bread is so good! One of the things Lighthouse is known for is their sticky buns, order it warm and with coffee, absolutely amazing. I have had no complaints about their food, and I’m looking forward to trying more. The food is organic and vegetarian, stop by there and try something, you won’t be disappointed.

I am an extremely picky eater and the lighthouse is one of the ONLY restaurants in Douglas County that provides the quality I believe a restaurant should. Everything is perfectly fresh, the presentation is lovely, the place is clean, the price is reasonable; what more could u ask for? The menu is all vegetarian, but don’t let that stop u. Their Ruben sandwich is to die for. They have some magic way of making their meat substitutes — u will be amazed. If u are looking for massive quantities of fatty meat and potatoes, this isn’t your spot, but if you want to delight in homemade breads, fresh picked veggies, Asian«chicken» salad, home fries and creamy pumpkin soup, then this is the ticket.

My daughter and I stopped in during a community bike ride this afternoon. What a cool place out in the middle of nowhere. :-) I ordered an Americano iced coffee and my daughter had an iced Latte. Both with an extra shot and they were delicious! This is a vegetarian/vegan place so you won’t find any meat here. With that being said, we ordered and split the«veggie reuben» sandwich on their homemade rye bread. What a fabulous sandwich, indeed! We both LOVED it! This may become our regular Sunday lunch spot when riding this way. We both are looking forward to the next trip out there.

It’s not surrounded by water and has no beaming light but I’ll let them get away with the name anyway because their food lights the way to heaven!(I know, I really tried too hard on that one, but seriously!) I do want to thank my yeep friend Michele R for her review because I would never have known about this wonderful place. I certainly would not have found it as it is off the beaten path, despite the supposed lighthouse to guide me. Everyone else found the restaurant though as it was hopping when we showed up. The bakery puts out incredible bread and cookies! Baked goods were coming out of the oven piping hot the whole time we were there. They did run out of the jalapeño cheese bread though. Maybe that does not get as much attention due to the peppers. They believe in sustainable/local and all that beautiful stuff. Oh and many of the servers looked quite beautiful, probably because they ate so well. They all follow a certain religion, much like some yoga persuasion, I was told by the cashier when I asked. He also stated that he did not give up his previous religion. He just also embraced this one. You walk in and there are lots of organic products that you can purchase, including even things like legumes, pasta, nuts, rice, etc. from the bins. There are herbs, spices as well as other grocery items. You head to the cashier and place your food order there. They will then hand you a gourd with a number on it and will find you. We sat outside since it was so gorgeous. Their grounds are very nice as well. The food was outstanding. I had their vegetarian reuben and squash soup. Best squash soup. They know that vegetarians like spices and herbs. Some vegetarian places do not indulge us with that. Don’t ask me why. Last time I checked spices were vegetarian too. Every bite I took made me feel like I was being cured for all my illnesses I’ve had. Very healthy and very delicious. We walked out of there with 2 loaves of their bread, one was a walnut vanilla and the other was a raisin bread. We made incredible french toast for breakfast the next day. This place is a guiding light for your stomachs. Our ship came in when we found this café/bakery. Trailing off with the end of nonsequitur bad puns.

Wow. You would drive right by if you weren’t looking for a post office/vegetarian restaurant in a non descript yellow block building. There is no missing meat and eggs here, everything we tried was so tasty. Yep. Even us carnivores find this place captivatingly wonderful. But before I go too far, just DON’T even try to take pictures of the inside. Seriously. Just be gracious, as they are, and respect their religious beliefs. They will politely inform you it is not permitted, if you dare to try. And no pets in the outdoor dining area either. Now, on to the good things we tried: You will be impressed by their gorgeous artisan breads and other baked goods. Some vegan and gluten free. The veggie burgers. Divine. Their own blend of patty. Many presentations to choose from, and I’ll bet all good. Homemade seeded buns. Amazing. Vegan soups. Yummy good. We had a vegetable noodle soup. It was like a delicious Thai soup made with lemon grass and galangal, full of vegetables of course. And finally… There is their carrot cake. Over the top perfect in every way. How can you go wrong with shredded carrot, walnuts, plump raisins, pineapple, spice, combined into the moistest cake known to man. And then, top it with the creamiest cream cheese frosting to ever cross your lips. I have never tasted better. So, you think I liked it? Hell yeah. Made me have flashbacks to the 60s. A lady(customer) who befriended us leaned over to give us this advice. «Eat one piece here… then buy another to go.» Then gave us that KNOWINGSMILE. She was so right.

What an absolute gem. This used to be a dumpy gas station that received a COMPLETE renovation. Wooden shelves, new flooring, custom display shelves, and a hand built wood burning oven in the back add up to amazing food. They have a great selection of canned, dry, and fresh goods you can take home. They also offer a great menu(mostly salads and sandwiches), pastries, and some of the best bread you will ever have. We had a veggie burger with pinapple, teryaki, and mayo. Also the California Salad which was perfectly dressed. You won’t find many places like this. Absolutely beautiful.

Friends who visited Roseburg said this to us: «We had lunch at a vegetarian bakery that was your kind of place. « We said«Great! What’s the name?» They said«We can’t remember. But it’s run by a commune.» Obviously not Yeeps! ;-) Try as I might, I could not come up with a match for those parameters when I searched Roseburg in advance of a visit there last week. But through serendipity, when we were eating a mediocre dinner except for the remarkable bread at a Roseburg area restaurant and asked where the bread was made, we got the first piece of the puzzle. The bread came from Lighthouse Bakery we were told. Following that lead, we subsequently found Lighthouse Center Bakery is not in Roseburg but in the countryside in Umpqua(with the added bonus of a beautiful back roads drive to arrive there). It is run by a collective(hence our friends’ reference to a commune) that follows the teachings of Sant Baljit Singh. I took photos of the exterior and the beautiful country view you see from the window of the spacious if spartan, sparkling Lighthouse Center Bakery. But when I tried to take photos inside, starting with a tray of gorgeous nasturtiums grown by the Lighthouse Center greenhouse and used to garnish the food plates served in the bakery’s café, I was firmly but politely told it is the Center’s policy that no photos are allowed inside. So you’ll just have to trust me on this — the bakery case and counter were full of wonderful breads of all kinds(we chose a hazelnut herb to take home with us) as well as sweet treats(our choices were almond crescent cookies and almond anise biscotti). They also had yummy hummus(we bought some to go) and pasta salad and other to go deli items. The space includes a café with table seating that serves a variety of fresh green salads as well as vegetarian and vegan burgers and sandwiches and soups. We hear their pizza is top notch, but it is only available on certain days. No alcohol served. Consistent with their beliefs, Lighthouse Center uses no animal proteins, including eggs, in their food production but they do use dairy and honey in some. For people who can’t eat gluten, and that includes some of my family members so I notice this, there are several gluten free options. There is also a small store space worked into the bakery and café that sells bulk items, like grains and honey and maple syrup, as well as come packaged foods. And in a perfect model of all people being welcome, the entire space is equally accessible to people of all physical abilities. Next time we visit the North Umpqua Valley wine region or Roseburg proper, we’ll make it a priority to enjoy a meal at Lighthouse Center Bakery as well as stopping in for take away. It is among the best, if not the best, of food available in the Roseburg area. We think it would be five star worthy anywhere. If it wasn’t a three and a half hour drive from our front door, we’d be regular customers.

I could not stop myself from writing about this place. I am here for few days and will be going back to this café for every lunch and dinner. Today me and my wife had a Potato Salad and Pasta. No doubts it was the best Potatao Salad and Pasta I ever had. The best part is that everything is organic and vegetarian. They donot use any meat, fish or eggs. I have also tasted tea cakes and biscuits from this bakery and they are super delicious. If you ar epassing this area, STOP and EAT! They offer: * Fresh baked bread from our wood-fired brick oven * Homemade desserts and pastries * Vegetarian café * Organic, fair trade coffee and espresso drinks * Deli salads * Fresh, organic produce and greens * Hand-dipped Ice Cream * Bulk foods * Natural foods * Convenience Items * ECO-Friendly Products * Local foods and hand-crafted items
