I love the nostalgia of the drive-in movie theater… easily 5 stars just for that. Admittedly, I am spoiled. I like air-conditioning, a comfortable seat, and the whole experience of going to a movie theater. I went to a drive-in movie once before, many years ago as a child, and I still remember seeing Turner and Hooch from the backseat of my parents’ car. As an adult, I can appreciate what the drive-in has to offer, but now I am older and crankier and I can’t sit still, especially as I sweat to death on a hot summer evening as the mosquitoes bite at my legs. Still, even though I won’t be going to another drive-in movie for a while, I can appreciate everything that it represents — a form of low cost entertainment that is a throwback to another time when things were simpler. There is something uniquely American about the drive-in movie theater. You basically have the freedom to do whatever you want when you park your car for the night. If you want to smoke a cigar, just like the guy who was parked next to us, you can do it. Want to drink some beers? You can do that to. Want to break out the pillows and blankets and watch from the back of your pickup truck? Go ahead. It’s a free for all. $ 7 bucks, two movies, and the freedom to do whatever the hell you want. Classic experience.
