Dixie Gun Works is in a building of 46,000 square feet, just over an acre. It also has an old car museum with nearly 40 antique cars and 1,000 or more pieces of antique mechanical devices. It grew from extremely humble beginnings.
Back in 1948 a traveling jewelry salesman, who was also a gun enthusiast, sold and traded guns out of the trunk of his car. Today, they take orders on seven, toll free, incoming telephone lines. There are five other telephone lines used to service customer needs. Internet orders make it possible for Dixie Gun Works to ship their products Worldwide.
Five thousand square feet of showroom that is open to the public, displays up to 2,000 antique guns on hand available for sale. The small twelve page, pocket size edition of the Dixie Gun Works Catalogue first issued in 1954 has grown into an 8 X 10 inch, 700 plus page book, illustrating more than 10,000 items Dixie Gun Works offers for sale. We try to keep new versions of the catalog on hand just for the fun of reading and learning new things
Dixie Gun Works has come a long way and grown to be the largest supplier of blackpowder shooting equipment, parts and antique guns in the world.
Adjacent to the showroom is the Dixie Old Car Museum featuring thirty-​six restored antique automobiles, farm engines, related antique automobile accessories and an 1850 log gunshop complete with vintage tools and equipment.
We treat visiting Dixie Gun Works as most people do museums and other points of interest. We spend a few hours just looking at, holding and looking at the guns up close and personal. You don’t have to wait for a person behind a counter to hand you something, it is all laid out for you to self-​serve at your own pace. It is also only a couple miles to the Kentucky State line and if you have extra time you can cross over and visit Kentucky for a bit.
Dixie offers over 60 kit guns including cap and ball revolvers, pistols, Kentucky, Jaeger and Hawken style rifles, military longarms, trade guns and shotguns. We purchased a shotgun kit that was intermediate in skill level. Dixie has all of the tools and materials you would need to complete any kit.
The kits are offered in three different stages of completion, from minor tweaking needed to more aggressive hands on knowledge and ability required to complete.
If you are into reloading or gun collecting in general this is an enthusiast’s wonderland.
