Shabu quality is very bad. The meat quality is poor. Looked to have freezer burn or not to be fresh. The meat turned black when in the broth. I sent it back and will not be returning.

Shabuway or Hot Pot? I came here during grand opening and honestly this place is basically the same as shabuway but with ramen options. The meat tasted pretty fresh, but like Shabuway, very little side dishes. Their sauce even tasted similar! If they didn’t change the name, I would still think it was Shabuway! Price is still expensive for the amount they give you.

.. Very busy yet the 2 servers kept up. One of the best hot pot restaurant i’ve ever been to. The meat slicer was a big plus and made the meat very fresh. Try out this place and you won’t be disappointed!!!

Do NOT come here. Unless you like frozen and preserved food. The meat was really thin, tasteless, and kept falling apart. The sauces were disgusting, they were very liquid and kinda looked like water with food coloring in it, and that’s what it tasted like too. And if you think that’s bad, the service was worse. We asked the waitress only for a drink and some sauce, and she refused, many times. So there’s the two major notes for everyone to take home: bad food, bad service, goodbye. I would rate this place«ew», but like the way Jimmy Fallon says it in that show where he’s a girl named Sara, «with no ‘h’, cuz ‘h’s are EW!» Ew. Don’t come here.

With limited options for shabu in the East Bay, my boyfriend and I decided to proceed with caution and try out the new Matsuri Hot Pot. Previously Shabuway, the restaurant has been converted into a shabu shabu + ramen hybrid. Though the name is Matsuri Hot Pot, the style is shabu shabu. The entrance is confusing, because there’s one for ramen, and one for hot pot, but you can’t use the door for hot pot. Instead, you have to go through the ramen entrance and make your way into the next room. My boyfriend and I were the only ones dining for shabu during lunch, which concerned me. Having skipped breakfast and endured an intensive workout, we opted for the AYCE option at only $ 28.99. The price is cheaper than other shabu places. We chose 2 broths: spicy miso and the Matsuri(tonkotsu). Between the 2 of us, we put away 7 plates total of lamb and kobe beef. Both meats were delightfully tender, sliced not too thick or thin. The meat was complimented with a ponzu(in which we could add minced garlic and green onion to it), and a sesame sauce. We also each had a plate of vegetables(napa cabbage, carrots, enoki, shittake, spinach, tofu) that we could refill, and the option of a bowl of rice or ramen. The only bone I have to pick is that the sesame sauce was weirdly watered down, which I haven’t had before. I hope to see that their business improves, because I was very satisfied with my whole experience, considering the scathing limited reviews this business has. And really, I’ve had a lot worse. It was a HUGE plus that we were the only shabu diners, because that meant that they had only one table to focus on, and we didn’t have to wait in between plates of meat. I can’t predict how the service would be like if the place was completely packed.

If you like unwashed vegetables, sauces that are just not quite right, sad green onion garnish and frozen, old garlic purée… You might be interested in eating here. If you enjoy eating low-quality frozen sliced lean meat, sliced by the same person that likely caused the original shabuway to go out of business, this is Definitely your place for shabu! Come on. Slicing frozen meat isn’t hard. Why would you slice the outside freezer burned meat and place that on the plate? I love brown meat as much as the next guy, but only when that brownness is due to my cooking it, not because you can’t control freezer burn or slice correctly. Oh, btw if you do decide that this is your place, note that your first half bowl of rice is free. Subsequent half bowls of rice are 2.00 each. Get the heck out of here. This place should be shut down(again).

My husband and I went here on Monday a whim to celebrate some good news. The restaurant is divided in half based on whether or not you’re there for shabu or for ramen. We were the only ones to dine in the shabu side which had me worried about being neglected by servers. The service, however, turned out great! They were very nice and checking in on us to see if we needed anything. We opted to do the AYCE shabu shabu because the individual plates of meat and veggies seemed too costly. We got two broths, which it’s always nice to have that option. The broth was ok… nothing to write home about. The side of veggies came with a good variety and a bit of glass noodles(a fave of mine). The meats were pretty standard. Along with our side of veggies and choices of meat, we had a bowl or ramen noodles and a bowl of rice. The ramen was a nice bonus. The rice was definitely old and terrible. The dipping sauces were seriously diluted, as if they were running low and added a bunch of water to get through serving us. Overall, I will not be back here for their shabu considering the price you pay and the quality you receive. I was not impressed and there are other tastier options in the Bay Area.

One star for the worst service I received from one of the waitresses.

Very bad service! Today is the first time we come to this place. One of the waitress is absolutely unbelievable. We only asked her two things: 1. We ask her to give us a sesame source for each person. She said we could only share one. 2. We ask her to add more soup when the soup in our hot pot is almost bottom-up. We wait for a long time. So I asked her again. She suddenly come to us and said my attitude is wrong and ask us to leave. Are u kidding me? I wish there is –1 star for her.

I had dinner there about a week and a half ago and it was delicious. There’s an adjacent room with tables with flat top stoves for shabu shabu. You get to pick from a variety of broths and your pick of protein. Our waitress was so sweet and really made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. My only wish was that they had chicken on the menu as a protein choice.

Had dinner here during their soft opening on a Sunday night, and it was great! They have a separate room for hot pot/shabu shabu. We ordered the hot miso broth and a mixed beef plate with lamb and Kobe, we ended up ordering another plate of Kobe beef because it was really really good! They weren’t very busy so the service was quick, and it was really affordable! Will definitely come back!
