Seafood City Supermarket

A female employee was in the bathroom and walked out without washing her hands. As she was walking out I asked her if she was going to wash her hands but of course she ignore me! Btw, this lady had her gloves on and I’m sure she’s now prepping the food with the same gloves. GROSS.

Checkout wait time is kind of long and there’s no room to form a line. No cashback.

I come here on a regular basis for years now. I found their fresh fish and meat sections are quality, they clean and fry the fish for you, if you like. The place always seem organize, always someone packing and arranging sections of the store. Today, while waiting for the fishes i will be buying to be cleaned, i was waiting by the freezer section where they have the frozen fishes, milkfish mostly. The whole section are all expired! Mostly 2014 and i also found 2009! I dont think this is acceptable for food consumption. I cannot believe that this could be overlooked for over 2 years and they are still trying to sell these products. I do still believe that some of thier products are quality but be careful on what you buy, anywhere.. always check the expiration dates.

Prices are great here, Lots of different seafood. Need to come more offen

Why is this place here? There is a nearly-​identical market just across the street. It is equally grungy and smelly inside. Can we get a bit more variety in the hood?

If this was the only Asian supermarket in town, I would give it a solid 4 stars. The market is located in my second least favorite corner of the Alvarado and Dyer intersection due to it’s funky parking lot and sketch cigarette store. There are, however, a Popeye’s and Rite Aid (Thrifty’s ice cream, anyone?) adjacent so I suppose that would be plus.
The supermarket itself always seems to be packed and there always little Asian kids trotting up and down the aisles playing tag to make the awkward aisle layout even more frustrating to navigate. Thankfully, the cashiers tend to be efficient and sort the queues painlessly.
The selection of goods seem marginal to that Asian grocery store with the number in it’s name as well as the other slightly larger Asian supermarket directly across the street.
I also find that the prices at this supermarket are a bit more expensive than elsewhere.
However, if anybody is interested in Filipino toiletries and skin care products, this is certainly the place for you. Largest selection of Filipino toiletries in any Asian market I’ve seen in the Bay Area.
Gatsby, Belo, Rexona, papaya whitening soap, styling wax, conditioner… it’s all there.
I will say this. Seafood City Supermarket does have a clean and presentable produce area. Probably the nicest of the Asian supermarkets in the area.

My go to market if im making a Filipino dish!
It’s pretty clean and well kept… except for the bathroom! Just hope you NEVER have to go!
BATHROOM: Located by the meat department on the RIGHT corner of the store. It is the WORST bathroom I’ve been to! Even port-​o-​potties are cleaner!
TIP: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
MEAT: Don’t forget to pull a number in the red round number thing if you need something behind the meat counter. They have a good selection of meat. They fry and clean fish, and also cut meat in portions.
STAFF: For the most part everyone there is pretty nice. Most of them can speak English and is easy to communicate with. (Unlike Lions Supermarket in Fremont)
SALES: when you first enter the store, there’s a digital stand that shows everything on sale. Also watch out for the red and white tags that indicates it is a sale item.
Tip: BRING YOUR OWN BAG, unless he don’t mind paying $ 0.10 for one.
PARKING: it’s pretty much a hit or miss for parking since it is shared in a complex. Best time to go is BEFORE 3 pm on any weekday. If you go on the weekend, try going before 12noon.

My default grocery for a wide variety of Asian food. They have a parking lot. This makes it faster and more convenient than Oakland Chinatown when I don’t have extra time.

This stores seems like it caters mostly to Filipinos. When you walk in, most of their selections are Filipino food. The only thing I buy here is their rice (certain brand). Unfortunately, it looks like they no longer carry the brand that I like so we’ll probably stop coming here. Parking is extremely scarce during lunch time (on the weekends). You’ll be driving around for a while and not see anyone leave and if you do see someone leave, someone else is eyeing that same space too.

I am torn whether I would give a 5star or nothing.
5 star because the cashier named Maribel gave me and the person before me stellar service. I commend her for being such a good cashier and dealing with customers with a big smile on her face! She has passion in what she does unlike other cashiers who seem to not be happy with what they are doing!
Alex— I don’t know who he is but I’m assuming he has a high position there. One of the cashiers at the lotto booth/​at the place to claim our price for the suki card was talking to him regarding the price which was the noodles. The lady prior to me was saying that at the tarpaulin it says that the free should be two packs. So this cashier conferred it with Alex. He was on top of his voice saying that where did she see that? (asan? Saan niya nakita Ang promo?) mind you, there were a lot of people witnessing his attitude and rage. His face was mad and he was on top of his voice. So to show what she was talking about the cashier proceeded to take him to the tarpaulin to show him. He said «give it then and remove that tarp tomorrow, they have the nerve to complain it’s already free! «(ibigay mo at Alison niyo yang tarp bukas liver na nga Puro Pag reklamo!) He said that in a loud voice and in front of all of us especially the lady that asked about the free. He shouldn’t be the manager! He is the rudest person that I have ever seen! It is so humiliating because I am Filipino myself! What a disgrace to my country!

Today I have to give them just 1 star. So I went to the check stand and there’s this checker named Maribel. Totally unprofessional. She’s eating while checking my groceries out. I had to bag my groceries myself. And there she was, still eating her little snack the whole time. And when she was done, I said «thank you for your help», of course I expected no response. I don’t know if she’s plain stupid or just ignorant.

We were charged for the same transaction twice because their register froze. Their manager Alex was very rude and condescending. He even told us it’s possible we will NOT get a refund. He told us to call the store within 3 days to find out if corporate office will allow the refund. I don’t want to experience this again so I’ll be going to Island Pacific Supermarket across the street from now on. It’s appalling that it’s even possible that I would not get the refund that I rightfully deserve.

Yay!!! I walked in today to an entire shelf of nothing but Champ-​o-​rado!!! Made my day and I stocked up!

Eeeh not much selection for an asian market. Majority of the workers arent so nice but one guy in the meat department was. They fry fish here and there was a line. Give u a number and when its done they call it on the intercom. Prices are a little high imo. Store is neat and clean and aisle are easily located to find what you need.

I posted 2 pictures taken today inside this store. the first item was missing a sign price of lumpia wrapper which is not common to this store, most of the items and products displayed you will not see any sign price along with the selling items. second was the organic tofu still on the shelf that unfortunately 6 days passed of the expiration date. Ugghhhh!!! What’s wrong with this store or the management. Filipino mentality are always procrastinate attitude. Restrooms are so unpleasant and always a messed. Dont get me wrong
also pinoy at may dugong pinoy. But this kind of business needs to close forever. I have no pity or sympathy for this store that doesn’t care about everything.

A grocery store if you can’t find a unique ingredient that are not sold at Luckys, Safeway and Foodmaxx. I would recommend going in the morning to get all the fresh items on time. Don’t expect that friendly greeting from the aunties who work there (just like any other asian markets) they look unhappy. But oh well.
I guess go here if your craving some sort of asian food that you wanna cook. I’ve been here for the past few months for the green mangos. And these mangos are from Mexico which is close enough to the ones I eat at the Philippines.

Great selection on sauces and marinade mixes for your bbq. In the meat department, they have a great selection on different cuts and very reasonable prices.
The vegetables are surprisingly just as fresh as what they offer at the local farmers market. Also, they have veggies that are only found in the Philippines and/​or not normally found at your local grocery store.

I love this place. Being from Vancouver were have several Chinese (or even Korean) large supermarkets, with a decent selection of Filipino items the aisles. But not to the extent of Seafood City!
For those who are looking to cook a Filipino feast, you only need to come here for all your needs, from fresh meat and especially Seafood, to your spice mixes, to desserts and frozen delights. Not to mention the snacks and treats that make you miss tur Philippines.
I wish they had one north of the border but at least this gives me another reason to appreciate each visit when I come to the Bay Area.
The only thing missing — a prepared food/​deli section.

Don’t know what a red snapper looks like before it’s been filleted? Need salmon heads for making fish stock or for Tamarind Soup? Come to this Filipino grocery store and find out. This grocery store caters to the Tri-City’s (Hayward, Union City and Fremont) significant Filipino population. You will find cuts of meat here that are needed for Filipino dishes. Like most Asian grocery stores, the fresh seafood section is pretty extensive. Grab a whole fish, drop it off at the fish counter, and tell them what you want done with it. Cleaned? Sliced? Fried? Be prepared to wait though if you happen to come here at peak hours. They also have a nice selection of rice, noodles, condiments and other items that any Filipino household would need.
As for fresh fruit and vegetables, I only buy the the ones that I cannot find elsewhere. They don’t have the freshest vegetables and I am loathe to buy vegetables shipped from China. I like to buy organic fruits and vegetables and they don’t have them here. They also carry frozen fruit and vegetables like tamarind, kamias, kalamansi, dahon ng sili, purple yam, cassava, and many more.
I really have to exert a good amount of self-​control when I come here. I always get tempted to buy the snack foods I grew up with like cornik and nagaraya nuts, and desserts like bibingka and sapin-​sapin whenever I’m here. I guess it’s just as well that I don’t go here very often. I do work in Union City, but I take BART to and from work most of the time, and this store is located in the west side of Union City, so without a car, I’m out of luck.
Chow King and Red Ribbon are adjacent to this store and can be accessed from inside the store. There is also a money remitter in the premises, so you can send money to your loved ones in the Philippines.

Is it just me? Or is this place racist?
I live in the area and I’ve been in here several times since they opened, and the most recent time was my last time. Even though this is the nearest grocery store to me and I can walk there in 10 min., I will now go all the way to Union Landing for groceries now matter how badly or how quickly I need something.
It’s pretty much the same story every time. So last time, I’m in line to pay and the people in front of me and the lady behind me all got greetings, .hello, how are you, did you find everything you need, etc. But me, all I got was «press green button!» without looking at me or saying anything else. No hello, no thank you, no good bye. Nothing.
Oh, and I’m white and all others around me are Asian.
