For me, Come Spring Café beats Moody’s Diner any day of the week! If you want, reasonably priced, home cooked food then this is the place to go. The breakfasts are divine, especially the HUGE pancakes. They often have specials with seafood, and a crab quiche comes to mind as being especially tasty. The prices are extremely reasonable compared to the overrated, overpriced Moody’s Diner. The dinner rolls are fresh as are the cakes, and pies. It’s not fancy, but that’s part of its charm. The only complaint I have is that it isn’t open for dinner all the time. If you want a tasty, home cooked style meal then this is the place to go!

This place has a great home country cooking feel to it. I have eaten here multiple times and the service is always great and friendly. Even after a couple month hiatus from going there they still remember my order by heart. You can’t beat that! I always order the biscuits and gravy with over medium eggs. I travel a lot for work and eat at many places and this café has the best biscuits and gravy I’ve tried anywhere in the northeast. I’d recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone eating alone or with family! Waffles are good as well! The place is always packed. Full parking lot with others forced to park on the side of the road. Always a good sign if you’re looking for a place to eat.

This morning I had a great breakfast at the Come Spring Café in Union, Maine. The restaurant is in what looks like and old home or maybe it’s a gas station. Whatever it is the place is very nice and inviting. I sat at the counter and one of the waitresses poured me hot cup of coffee without me even asking. Thanks! I ordered a pretty standard breakfast. Two eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and two pieces of French toast. Everything was excellent, fast hot and very tasty. I’m going back tomorrow and I’ll have the eggs Benedict.

This place serves home style comfort food in a casual setting. The waitresses are very friendly and eating here feels more like going to Grandma’s house for a meal than eating in a restaurant. When we ask the kids where they want to eat, this is usually the first place they suggest. They are definitely a kid-friendly place, although it probably helps that they have awesome desserts(mmmm…pie). Every time we’ve been, you just walk in and sit wherever you want; I’ve never seen a sign up saying that you need to wait to be seated. They have excellent fried clams — the whole clam, not just strips. Their fish and chips are awesome as well and made with haddock. I also really love their coleslaw, which is one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Last night one of my kids ordered spaghetti and meatballs and she let me try one of the meatballs. Very tasty, reminded me of the ones my Gramma used to make. Specials and side dishes are written on a dry erase board in the main dining area(the side without the counter) and desserts are written on a dry erase board propped up near the cash register, though you can also just take a peek into the dessert display. Portions are generous and I’ve always been satisfied ordering the smaller version of meals that have that option. Negatives are at a minimum. Sometimes the service can be rather slow when they’re busy, which is worst around lunchtime during tourist season. Mostly it’s just the tourists that get annoyed by this; locals are generally far more understanding and not in as much of a hurry. If you hate waiting, I’d suggest arriving outside of regular meal hours, such as for a late lunch or early dinner. The only things I’ve eaten here that I didn’t care for were the nachos and a prime rib special. Neither were bad per se, they just weren’t the way I like them. Basically, if you stick to typical diner food here, you shouldn’t be disappointed. :)

Alright, the food keeps the fourth star but the service this time was a bit lackluster.

I LOVE Come Spring Café… this was my place of choice for breakfast/lunch when dating my Maine mountain man. And oh how much I loved Come Spring! :) The waitresses are super sweet and friendly. The food is pretty good — definitely filling — and reasonably priced. They went through an extensive renovation, which definitely expanded on their space. I’m still a huge fan… :)
