Heard their sausage pie was really good… well, the sausage was sweet and juicy… but only about 5 pieces per slice… a little on the stingy side don’t you think? Small parking lot in back and back entrance a plus because parking in front on ultra-busy Morris Avenue may be dicey. Cool Pizza names in context with the décor and business name. Friendly staff.

I tried goombas because of Unilocal-so maybe this will be it? Wow surprise ! the plain reminds me of Brooklyn Pizza I remember as a kid– non of this super crispy bar pie when you just want a plain slice great crust with that crunch yet some chew– but not bready or doughy balanced sauce flavor, I would prefir a drop more heat-i love my hot pepper Cheeze perfect cheezyness overall– 4.5, almost perfect neighborhood pizza– its 15 min away:( tried chicken parm sandwich– very good also. parking in the back, simple, older place(reminds me of the neighborhood places in brooklyn in the 80s) only tried plain and white. ½ star off for the names — i feel like a fool ordering the tony montana– cant I just say PLAIN!

Pizza is still good but their pasta is not the same anymore. Chicken Marsala was literally inedible, i took one bite and threw it out. Penne vodka is watered down. Customer service is still great.

Been wanting to try this place and today was the day. First off… we were able to place our order online. We were able to go check out the online menus and use an online coupon. They have specials with famous Italian sayings from the good ol Italian mobster movies like Godfather and Good Fellas. Went to pick up my order and there is parking in the front and rear of store. Inside the business has all Italian mobster décor which is cool. Also has their own soda. Pizza and chicken wings were good. Only gave four stars because order took longer after the required time.

This place is OK, I am from NY and I know good pizza. The pizza was pretty thin, the wings were very small and expensive, the cold sub was very good though. They also delivered pretty quickly within 20mins, it’s an okay place to get food

I was opening a bank account at the Valley National next door so I stopped in for 2 slices. 2 Slices and a 20oz coke for $ 5 is cool with me. The slices were big and had good crisp when heated. It could have been a little thicker but by no means the thinnest pizza I’ve ever had. Ratio’s were right between sauce and cheese and the crust had a bit of garlic to it. If in the area again I’m not against eating here.

Very good on Super Bowl order delivery… I just tried the plain slices but they were really good and probably even better right out of the oven!

My husband & I have absolutely no complaints. The personnel, food and sandwiches are the best. We went to Naples & Rome & Goomba’s still beat the real deal. My husband is especially fond of the bread used for the generous chicken or veal sandwiches.

Saturday night and a bunch of friends and I were starving for a good local pizza joint. It was 9:05pm and I called to order a pick up of two pies. Conversation is as follows: Me: hi. I would like to order for pick up Goomba: well what do you want? We’re closing? Me: should I not order then? Goomby: depends what you want. We close at 9:30 Me: Uhh just 2 pies Goombada: well get here soon because we’re closing. Okay. I’m embarrassed as it is going to a place called«Goombas» for pizza. But you figure you have to bite the bullet and get past the name when you’re in desperate need to feed your craving. So now we go and pick up the pizza 10 minutes later. We go up to the counter and Goombalucci says, «I almost didn’t take the order ya know». Oh really? Well, lucky us. Bring the pizza back home(1 plain, 1 w/mushrooms). The pizza was edible but by no means would I ever need to order it again. Instant greasy heart burn. It took my friend 20 minutes until he hit his first mushroom on his 1st slice! Whole experience sucked all around.

The fact that this place has a 3 star overall rating is a joke. Goomba’s has the BEST pizza in the Union/Hillside/Newark area by a mile. My wife(who’s from Italy) gives her stamp of approval as well. The plain slice is off the charts, the dough, cheese and sauce is a perfect mix. My favorite is the buffalo chicken pizza. I’ve had this at other places, but Goomba’s does it right. I can’t speak for everyone here on Unilocal, but I’ve been coming to Goombas for 5 years, and all the workers have been respectful. They honestly go above and beyond to give great service. I just wanted to set the record straight cause this place is great in all facets. This is nitpicking… I only wish they’d do a BBQ chicken pizza. If you’re a Kean U. student, order from here. If you live in the area, take a trip to Goombas. If you are visiting, this place is THAT good, so check it out!

Wow, I can’t believe the terrible service I received tonight at Goombas. The owner was so rude to me. Based on the other reviews, it seems like I wasn’t the only one who experienced this treatment! I would not recommend Goombas to even my worst enemy!!! His pizza wasn’t even great so I look forward to seeing this jerk out of business. Fake Italians.

I have ordered consistently from this place never had a problem until this last time! sadly they have good food but their service by far terrible to the point I will make the initiative to contact the star ledger! I ordered my food tonget delivered to then further told by the delivery kid that he’s been lost before in my neighborhood and that I had to go get my delivery at his car? Seriously? So I go out and to top it off they forgot my 2 liter soda my pizza is cold and buffalo wings are soggy! I immediately call the on duty mgr and he tells me oh well it’s not their fault they r busy and the pizza arrived cold! What type of customer service is that? U should stand behind the product you sell and offer outstanding service. This richie mgr was vulgar! Used the f word to illustrate his point that he didn’t care and that oh well if your not happy don’t order from here! Completely disappointed! Beware this establishment is ran by unprofessional young kids with no people skills and poor cold food!!!

Let’s get one thing straight. Jersey is the single greatest state in the Union. When Robert E. Lee opted to fight for the Confederacy instead of the Union during the Civil War, it was because he treasured his dear Virginia so much, he couldn’t bear to fight against her. Such as he was, so am I towards the great Garden State. Love it or hate it, Jersey has its own unique culture and subset of media about it. Yes, The Sopranos still has a definitive effect. That’s because it portrays Jersey as Jersey: at times hardscrabble, at times brutal, but at times beautiful and serene, a home to so much, to life, to love, to damn good food. That’s what Goomba’s is all about. Okay, let’s get it out: yes, goomba is a slur — some argue a dated one — against a person of Italian descent. But it can be taken back and used by those it’s slandered, and it has been done so with gusto. Don’t believe me? Go to Goomba’s. Step in. See the place for what it is: a clean, well-cared for pizzeria. Sure, there’s pizzerias galore in Jersey. Why come here? Is it for the Sopranos cariacatures, with the painting of Tony pointing inside with the caption of «Let’s sit down»? Is it the pizza? The private label«Fugedaboudit» soda? No, I say. We come to Goomba’s for the pizza, yes — and it is very good pizza. The right balance and proportion of cheese to sauce for your standard New York style utility slice, writ well on a correctly done crust. It’s not too greasy, it’s not too cheesy, it’s not too saucy. But we come for the fact that this is how a neighborhood Jersey exemplar should be: down to earth, unpretentious, with close-shaven muscular Italian guys with tattoos working the register. When that guy working the register is basically the same kind of guy you grew up around, went to school with, and later saw elevated to the national eye in Jersey Shore for better or for worse — it is still home. It is still the guy working at the pizzeria. Maybe it’s not the best job in the world, slinging pizza. Maybe it’s a side job, maybe it’s something else. But that job is the guy at Goomba’s. He serves up the pizza. He works the register. Someone else came up with the witty Italian mobster-themed names on the menu, and I don’t know who thought up the private label soda. But this is Goomba’s. This is Union, New Jersey. This is a damn good slice of pizza that has earned its five stars by being unashamed of its Jerseyness, being aware of what undercurrent lurks within so many Garden State residents. We love where we live. We love our state. If you love Jersey, and you’re in Union and feel like pizza… you owe it to yourself and to your state, right or wrong, to at least take a shot at Goomba’s.

standard NJ pizza with a Sopranos theme. the name makes me laugh out loud everytime. i can only report on the pizza which has a thicker texture, not thick like sicilian but just a bit thicker than an average slice. tasty sauce. my parents enjoy there fried clam wrap. i like the henry hill pie which is pepperoni, onions, and peppers but i replace the pepperoni with sausage. thats all i have to say.
