This place is by far the worst BBQ place. We ordered chicken ribs and fries. I mean who messes that up. Everything tastes like crap. I wouldn’t come here again. The worst was the rice. It was gross. I didn’t even finish anything. There are other BBQ places in the area. Go there.

Good food if you’re a hurry and just want to get something quick and inexpensive. The beans aren’t the best. There are time that are better than others but good overall.

OKay so I wanted to give these guys a second try. Service was bad the first time but the chicken came out right. Today I ordered a WELL-DONE chicken with WELL-DONE fries. The order was ignored, got it undercooked. No biggie, people make mistakes. Would be nice if the phone guy had been paying attention when I specifically mentioned WELLDONE4 – 5 times… But people have off days sometimes so I let it go. But here’s the real problem. After I get the order, I bite into the chicken and I taste of all things, SOAP. WHAT??? Not sure what these guys are doing but quality has gone downhill. Avoid. To the owner: for god’s service is abysmal. Rude phone manners, awkward pauses on the phone, ignored orders, SOAPCHICKEN. Why? Don’t try these guys unless you like your chicken with extra soap. I threw that crap in the trash. Waste of $ 17. Never again. Unilocal keeps deleting this review, probably because the owners pay for it. Very crooked of you Unilocal. This is an EXTREMELY important issue which needs to be known by others. What if a child is poisoned because you censored the review? I am contacting the health department to resolve this issue with this restaurant.

WOW, I have not been here in years. The menu is the same, the food is off. Pork ribs, chewy, tough, no flavor. The Garlic Broccoli was over cooked. I had BBQ sauce at home, I forgot to buy it there. It’s not just handed out. The rice n beans BLAND. I won’t be back… very disappointed.

Go here alot! Outstanding Portuguese style bbq! A Brooklyn style authentic way of preparing meats, but most importantly, a clean and lively kitchen with a focussed, skilled staff of grill chefs. The bbq here is made to serve with healthy portions that leave you full and satisfied!

One of our favorite places. I first learned of this place years ago thanks to an article in the Star Ledger. We had never had Portuguese BBQ so off we went. In a word, delicious! Great grilled ribs, chicken, and really tasty Picadinho. The sides as is customary, can feed many. Although we don’t get here as frequently as we once did, it is still a favorite.

I stopped in with a co-worker only because she had been there before and liked it. I had been to a few of these in the Ironbound section of Newark. I was disappointed. I ordered the half chicken with beans and rice. There wasn’t enough seasoning on the chicken. They leave the sauces on the table for a reason. They gave me to many black beans and not nearly enough rice. The beans were watery enough to start spilling over into my rice and chicken. This place wasn’t the most cleanest I’ve been in and the prices were a couple of dollars more than the Ironbound. The Ironbound is much better but this place is trying.

Go to place when I want good Portuguese BBQ — although the guys working are all Brazilian. Recommend the febras(pork steaks) and the picanha. Rice and black beans are great. If you dont want to wait, make sure you call ahead. They make everything as it is ordered so you are guaranteed fresh food!

Traditional Portuguese-American entrepreneurs and restaurateurs didn’t really leave the Newark Ironbound area, really, all they did was just move their establishments a block or two away — that means Union and Hillside — to Union County. These churrasquiera establishments, mainly a Brazilian-Portuguese fusion, are becoming the ever so popular go-to stop for an epic combo of ribs, rice, and fries. If you’re driving down Route 22, and want some grub — real GRUB — then take a pit stop at Route 22BBQ and let the pig out begin. Super delicious and cheap churrasquiera, recommended for all my meat-rice-fries aficionados out there. GO!

big seating area w/flat screen. No AC in the summer or maybe it was off at the time, but it was nice and cool Equal to Burnet bbq as far as quality/quantity/consistency. If i had to choose, i’d go here instead of burnet. Four Stars cuz of the location and small parking lot but i never had a problem finding one

Whenever you hear your mom tell you to finish your food because there are people starving in third world countries… tell her to order a ½ rib combo with rice and fries from this spot and ship it there. It’ll feed a village. Plenty of food. Cheap as hell. Tasty as hell. Now I know where all the day-laborers eat. Found ya, bitches!

I’ve sampled their fare on 3 separate occasions throughout the last two years. Each time has been consistent. Although they claim to be a Portuguese BBQ joint, the flavors resemble their Brazilian counterparts. Either way, consistency in this genre outside of the Ironbound area of Newark is rare. You should eat this food. Today my best friend ordered a tray of the pork ribs, a tray of the short ribs, and a plate of the chicken. All proteins were served on a bed of yellow rice and black beans. The pork ribs and short ribs were straight fire. Not fire as in hot, but fire as in bomb! The chicken was a little on the dry side, this knocks them from that elusive 5-star rating. But this isn’t a strictly to-go joint, even though the counter was packed with people waiting for their orders. They also offer a dining room, which was completely empty at 6pm today. You really can’t go wrong with the pork or short ribs. I suggest you skip the chicken unless you plan to douse them with vinegar or their sweet sauce. The yellow rice and black beans are a necessary addition to the meal and are great complements. Parking may be a hassle depending on how busy their counter is with to-go orders. I’m ready…

Great Food, Great Value. Make sure you order the Chicken Soup at $ 2.00 a serving. I enjoy the BBQ chicken with rice and black beans. Portions are HUGE, enough to feed two people. I do drive 5 miles to order from here. Along the way, I pass many BBQ restaurants. Highly recommend.

my regular stop for good bbq at cheap prices!!! BBQ ribs good. BBQ chicken gooood. White rice! Interestingly enough that’s good to! I usually order either a half order of ribs or chicken with white rice and fries for only around $ 7 for portions that are enough to feed 2! It’s also great with vinegar sauce that you should always ask for on the side. Also I have to add that the ribs you get here are meaty. When compared to other portuguese like restaurants around the area you’ll find that there is not really much meat. Over here it’s a different story. Definitely a place to check out for a good meal at low prices. Don’t forget the white rice!
