Its really no secret that I’m cheap. I hate paying for anything retail and head straight for the sale racks in the back of any store. With that being said, it’s no surprise I love Gabe’s. Gone are the days that you have to spend hours searching racks full of defective clothing(another thing I hate). The store has expanded and grown so much since those days at West Place in dear Uniontown. Now you can score Anthropology, A&F, Urban Outfitters, and occasionally True Religion and 7 For All Mankind for a fraction of the retail price. Scrubs for work are less than $ 10, home décor, even food at bargain prices. Love it!

Grew up in U’topia, and remember Gabe’s when it was in a rundown bldg down on West Place, by the railroad tracks. During college in mid-70s, i’d always swing into Gabe’s to cheaply replenish my student wardrobe of t-shirts, whenever I came home. As the years passed, Gabe’s grew, moved out on Rt 21& added stores thruout tri-state area. Until my mother moved away 1.5 yrs ago, a trip home was not complete without a stop n shop at Gabes. You gotta be in the right frame of mind and look for name brands among the dreck, but if you do, you’ll be rewarded! I have found Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie, Izod and much more.

Happened to be in Uniontown for work and decided to get my shop on. Unfortunately there aren’t many options in the city but Unilocalers pointed me in the right direction. I spent approx. 2 hours in Gabes, spent $ 35 and came out with books for my toddler twin boys, an Ann Taylor Loft dress, 2 Ann Taylor(not loft) tanks that can be dressed up or down, a faux red crocodile belt, and 2 all cotton outfits(jacket and pants) for my toddlers. Seriously this place is not to be missed. I would have bought more but my suitcase was small. You have to look carefully but Gabes has clothing for everyone(men, women and children), shoes, housewares, random food items, lingerie, and children’s toys. It also has accessories(earrings, purses, belts), sheets, towels etc. I saw items from Nike, the Limited, Limited Express, among others. Hands down the best discount shopping experience I’ve ever had(and I KNOW shopping. upscale and down). Oh, one other plus there’s a Tarjay across the street and a dollar store in the same complex as Gabes. Don’t stop till you get enough.

Uniontown is but one of a dozen or more Gabriel Brothers(Gabes to us fans) strewn across Ohio, Pa, WV, MD, Virginia and a couple other mid-Atlantic states. By far the ‘best of distressed’ brand name discounters. They are often compared to Marshalls, but dedicated Gabe fans know better. Marshalls sucks, price wise, selection wise, quality wise. Some Gabe locations I’ve visited: in WV: Charleston, Morgantown, Beckley, in VA: Winchester, in MD: Bel Air and the Uniontown, PA. All are great, some are just greater. And as an added attraction the one in Beckley has a separate ‘tent sale’ store for super discounted items. Gabes and Big Lots give me the only shopping rushes I need.

this is one of the only things i miss about Uniontown. I think that is a good review itself.

How has no one reviewed Gabe’s yet!!! Gawd, when every we travel back to U-town once a year to see the extended family(grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins — we are the only family that has escaped, err, left) we ALWAYS make a trek to Gabe’s! We love it. Yes, you definitely have to look very closely at items before you buy them for the occassional hole or lipstick smear(thank you, skanky lady) but trust me, there are quite a few diamonds in this rough! I have found gorgeous Victoria’s Sercet nighties and the like for a mere $ 2 a piece! I have also had great luck with jeans(The Gap) and who can beat dollar panties, I ask you! The home goods section is perfect for people just starting out. The shoe dept. takes some time — I did buy a pair of heels for $ 15 before realizing that the buckle on the strap was sewn on backwards — but that was my bad! I know the rules at Gabes– look hard before you buy :) Also, we always stop at the front of the store for a cherry Slush Puppy and a hotdog. Shopping is hard work and that’s the perfect Gabe’s refuel ;) Glad I live on the East Coast now — makes Gabe’s more special!
