What a beautiful place! I had such a great time visiting it with my family over the summer! Plenty of plants and butterflies, it just makes your day when you’re walking around. Definitely a great way to spend your afternoon!

I would give the Botanical Gardens 10 stars if I could! It’s always expanding so it’s worth a yearly visit. Last year, a kids area was added. The best part is the free entry and parking. I can also bring my grandmother with her wheelchair which makes this a great place for folks of all ages. There are modern restrooms in the covered area. Many of the plants have labels so you don’t have to guess what they are. My favorite part is the coy pond and the fountain.

The Penn State arboretum is not done being built, but what is there is very pleasing to the eye. A visit is free, and nearby parking is free. There is a children’s garden that was designed well for kids. Other sections include the strolling garden, the rose garden, marsh meadow, display garden, oasis garden and lotus pool, pollinator’s garden, tropical grove, etc. I recommend stopping by if you are already in the area.

Well of course, we’re going to love this place. Beautiful, well maintained gardens in the middle of State College. Mom’s with children, artists with their canvas, photographers with their iPhones, college kids and grandmothers… a good smattering of 21st Century humanity all walking and gazing together for a common purpose… to enjoy nature in all of its glory. We visited in the fall and plan to go back in the spring and in the summer to see as much as we can. Bring a picnic lunch, there’s plenty of grass to sit on, too.

Free parking by there. Many mothers took their babies in strollers or couples walking around. Many of the shrubs, plants, and flowers are clearly marked so as you walk around, you will know their names. Not a place to get a good hours worth of walking unless it’s a leisurely pace.

Wow! This place didn’t exist when I graduated in ’03. It’s right near the new Berkey Creamery(which also didn’t exist back then), but is basically a beautifully groed arboretum with a variety of plants and mini trails. Great place to go for a nice walk on a beautiful day. Also a great place to host a reception/party(outdoor, but covered).

We stumbled across this huge garden by accident. What a terrific find! Nestled in the shadows of Beaver Stadium, near the intersection of Park Ave. and Bigler Road. According to their website. Phase I was constructed in 2009 on a plot of over 35 acres and contain over 17,000 plants. So, if this is Phase I that means there is more to come! We wandered around about an hour. There is really a lot to see. According to their website, they host occasional public events here. The Overlook Pavilion is also available to rent for weddings. If you are ever in Happy Valley and have some free time and enjoy plants, I would highly recommend a visit to the Arboretum.

Hidden gem of Penn State, I’m shocked more people don’t know about this place. It’s been open for a few years now but is still expanding but what is there is already huge and very impressive. Lots of different themed areas and lots of different plants. Great relaxing stop when you aren’t quite ready for the bar scene or on a Sunday.
