I visited the bakery for the first time today. The gentleman that helped us was very friendly and the cookies were amazing. The place is very cute and charming. I’ll definitely be back.

I tried their delightful sweets, a raspberry cream cheese loaf and a lemon cream cheese tartlet. I am not a fan of dessert, especially sweet item. But LORD these babies were ummmmmlious. The perfect blend of what a dessert should be, sinful, delicious, and inviting to your palette. I encounter them at downtown farmer’s market on Wednesday.

Wonderful bakery! :) the cakes are amazing very soft and moist the fillings are the best I ever had. They did my cake just the way I wanted it, everyone in my party loved it and asked where we had placed the order for it :) it’s a small mom & pops place but can recommend it to anyone who is looking for a special order on a cake :) I give them 5

My wife loves German Chocolate Cake. So for her birthday, I decided to once again try to get a German Chocolate cake. The problem I have run into a most bakeries is that although they call it German Chocolate, it is really just a Devils Food cake with German Chocolate frosting. While they are usually good, they are not the German Chocolate my wife likes. This year, I went to Crusty Tart Bakery and told the lady what I needed. No problem. From what I had gone through for so many years, I did not even ask if it was real German Chocolate or just Devils Food. She was very friendly and took my order. When I went to pick it up, as soon as I walked in the door she said here is your cake. I didn’t even have to remind her why I was there. That night, when I served the cake to my wife and friends, everyone said how good it was. My wife noticed the color of the cake when it was cut and said she thought it was a real German Chocolate cake. In fact it was. Her comment to me was «you did good».

The pastries are pretty good but the service is not the best. I feel rushed and in their way. I also ordered cupcakes for a bridal shower and I’m pretty sure that they would have been Betty Crocker, cupcakes not their specialty. Really need to put the warm fuzzies when customers walk in.

So I tried out this bakery today since it’s the closest one to my job and I have an enormous sweet tooth. I had gotten the brownie (Which were huge!) And some delicious cookies and I have to say some of the stuff is a bit pricy but definitely worth what you pay! Also the guy that host the place was nice and very helpful.

I’ve been coming here for years and will continue to come back as long as they are open! It’s hard not to find anything you don’t like in here. The wedding cakes are above amazing. The cookies, cakes, pies jams and other goodies are just beyond yummy! The best part though is the wonderful people working here. They make the experience so much better than any of the other local places.

I live close by and decided to check this bakery out. I have to say my experience was fantastic. I didn’t encounter the woman everyone seems to talk about. I had a man helping us and he was so nice. Very friendly, polite, helpful. All the qualities one looks for when going to a business.
This bakery is beautiful. Everything they have looks so fresh and creative. Pasteries, bread, cake, jams… everything you can possibly want from a baker. I felt like I was in a fairy tale house. It is just amazing.
We bought a little bit of everything and it was a delicious. Can’t say anything negative about it. Highly recommend it!

Am so sorry to say that I had a bad experience at this place. The weekly hours are not very friendly but one day I was happy to find myself in the area when the shop was open. Every thing looked amazing, the lemon bars were huge… my weakness. However when the lady came out from the back she was so rude to me, it felt almost personal. Because I didn’t have any cash on me & they don’t take credit cards I could not purchase anything on that day. But I still won’t go back, she acted as if she didn’t need or want my business.

Love this bakery! We always have the best service!

Not a bad bakery, however, the owner or who ever she is that works the front counter is so rude I can not go back there. My famly and I have gone here for years, but I just cant deal with her any longer. Travel to L.A. to DC cupcakes will be well worth it on the holidays!

Do you see the review below by Jennifer B. I was the friend that went with her in that last review. That was almost a year ago, and I am still coming back to this bakery on a regular basis.
On our first trip, we were impressed with the artisan breads, wedding cakes and other goodies on display. Clearly, everything baked here is prepared with a great deal of time, skill and effort.
We picked up a few small tarts, and a mini chocolate cake. When we got them back to my place to try them, we were blown away. Each one was perfection.
The complaints about service are unusual to me. Perhaps that’s just because both the owner and I are from Chicago. Maybe those of us from the Midwest are just fundamentally different from the LA natives, but the both of us found her to be helpful and knowledgeable. I have been helped by her assistant many times as well, and he has always been exceptionally friendly.
They –are– cash only, so remember to bring actual bills when you stop on by.
Also, she asked us politely not to take pictures of her creations and post them online. We understood completely. I was a baker for many years, and know how much it burns you up when someone steals an idea you’d had. Especially when they execute it poorly. Talk about adding insult to injury!
Bottom line is this, every time I have a social event to go to, and I am asked to bring a sweet dish, I’ll go here. The Crusty Tart has become my secret weapon. Their baked goods *never* fail to impress.

I got a quiche and it looked wonderful.
Took it home and warmed it up for dinner with a salad, the bottom crust was super soggy, almost unedible. Filling was a little bland, like it could have used some high end cheese. I wanted it to be as delicious as it looked, but on those terms it was an epic fail.

Had a sweets craving and stopped with a friend, despite the reviews. I’m really happy I took the chance. The baked goods were wonderful and the designs were spectacular. After taking time to speak with the owner, she explained she moved to California over a decade ago to open her business. Any art is subjective, and baking is no exception. She had to develop a «thicker skin» to combat against criticism over giving up and closing her business to pursue something other than what she loves to do. I ask that you visit her shop with an open mind and take time to appreciate all of the wonderful things she makes. I believe that people in culinary professions want to make other people happy — and the dessert assortment my friends and I split for lunch that day did just that.
Patrons-​to-​be: Offer a smile or a kind word — you catch more flies with honey.
Other items of note: For fall, she bakes a number of shaped breads — the bat was my favorite. The wedding cakes that used sweet pastries as decorations were quite amazing as well. The prices were also on par with the Midwest, so no sticker shock.

I’ve been going here before i could walk! Basically grown up at this bakery and i love every pastry and cake made there.
I read the Unilocal reviews and can’t believe people would say the lady is rude. She makes all of these treats herself not only to make a living but also to see the joy in peoples faces when they enjoy her baked goods.
I totally recommend the orange cranberry anything! as well as the heart shaped pound cake. every cookie is obviously delicious too!

They always have something reat to try. Its cash only so remember to take some when you go. Im not sure why people say she is rude, but shes always friendly with me.

Lucky me! I came across some delicious breads/​treats from this place at the Upland Farmer’s Market. The loaf of raspberry bread was wonderful! I would like more please! And the apricot tart was ok. The gentleman selling the goods was pleasant enough. So based on the other reviews, I obviously did not encounter «the lady.» And now I am kind of escared to go into the shop and meet her! I think I will just stick to the Farmer’s Market for now and try everything they have there before I man up and go into the shop.

When I first discovered this place, it was by word of mouth. The person who raved about this place spoke nothing but good things. I was in the area and I had a sweet tooth craving, so I decided to check it out. Usually, when you hear good reviews from your friends, it’s worth trying out right?
There isn’t a clear sign that has the business’ full name, just ‘Bakery’ so it is easy to miss. From the window, you already see the promise of baked goodness because of their cake decorations, pastries, and bread sculptures (this visit was turkeys and cornucopias). You open the door and you instantly smell the aroma of heaven baked in a pastry.
When you walk inside, you are overwhelmed by the multiple tiered cake displays, as well as the many pie stands and cookie baskets. You quickly think «Oh my god, what do I try first?» You will become excited because it’s a bakery-​what else would you get excited about? Make sure you look at everything and all of their daily specials before making a choice!
I purchased a red velvet cupcake, a chocolate twist, a loaf of squaw bread, as well as a blueberry and peach pie.
I was disappointed with the red velvet cupcake. Maybe I have been spoiled with the likes various other bakeries, but this cupcake just didn’t seem spectacular, at least with the price tag that went with it. It didn’t give me that mouth watering «need to finish this now!» feeling. I tried the twist, and it was just ok. It was $ 2.60 for it and it didn’t seem freshly baked. I have yet to try the loaf of bred or the pie, but I hope they will be the saving grace for this visit.
