I used to live in Upper Darby and ordered from Bei Jing regularly, back when they were called«Good Taste Chinese,» which is basically my favorite name for a Chinese restaurant. I live in Drexel Hill now, and they still deliver out my way! Hooray!!! As a vegetarian, I often find the quality of the veggie offerings on Chinese menus to be wildly varying in quality. Some people use only one kind of vegetable, some people have clearly never met a piece of tofu before, some people have sauces that leave a weird sickly film in your mouth etc etc. Thankfully, Bei Jing has actually taken strides to make sure I get a good meal! First of all, their imitation specials are delicious. Doesn’t even matter which one you get, their«fake meat» is not awful and disgusting, and it’s exceedingly better than a soggy piece of poorly-fried tofu. Like nearly every American, the General Tso’s(imitation) chicken holds a special place in my heart, and their sauce is fantastic! It is pretty sweet, but it still manages to have a little bit of a sour tang and a very very subtle amount of spice in it. More importantly, it’s properly thickened and does not leave any weird taste or texture in your mouth afterwards! So delicious. Their vegetable fried rice has a ton of different veggies in it, which I know sounds like a no brainer here, but there have been places that I’ve ordered from that literally only had rice and onions. Bei Jing’s rice was not lacking in flavor or texture, although I do like to add a bit of their dumpling sauce to my rice since it gives it a sweet, gingery flavor that really just can’t be beat. The only problem I ever have here is that every now and again there will be a problem with communication, which is why my steamed vegetable dumplings turned out to be steamed pork dumplings instead, and I was very nearly given real chicken instead of imitation chicken last night. That’s okay, the Hunky-Dreamy’s a big fan of steamed dumplings, and he said they were excellent. Please order from these guys! Their food is great!

This was a little hole in the wall in Upper Darby, but it served its purpose one late night when I had a craving for some food. I was pleased to see large portions and an easy to swallow price. I got the House Special Fried Rice which for me is a standard for any Chinese restaurant. Nice amount of meat and seafood, piping hot and made fast. good good good! Staff was friendly and quite helpful. If I am in the neighborhood, I will be back! Why did I take away one star? Well, it was a little dirty and disorganized out front where customers are trying to eat, there are large stacks of cardboard boxes and other things.

Bei Jing is a typical American Chinese restaurant with friendly staff and all the fatty, fried chicken your insulin can handle before sending you into diabetic shock. I asked the girl behind the counter for a recommendation, and she hooked me up with the garlic chicken, which was fantastic. What’s keeping me from giving this place a 4 or a 5 star? The cleanliness and that the fact that they charged me 50 cents to use my credit card since it was under 10 dollars. Should I really expect different though?
