Lovely trail for beginner hikers such as myself. We decided on this trail because we wanted to see the first African American airspace field which actually turned out to be an old corn field with a sign that explained the airspace. However, that put us right on the river which was beautiful and had a nice breeze that gave of a break from the 90 degree heat. The red trail was fairly easy to hike. Just trees, dirt and a little gravel here and there. Directions could be a LOT better here. Plugged in the address for Croom Circle and google maps literally stopped me in the middle of the road about a mile pass the visitors center and said the destination was on the left. Well the only thing that was on my left was trees. Absolutely no clear signage to the visitors center. Lots of sharp turns to get here off of 301.

Word of note: the address is 16000 Croom Airport Road, not 8400 McClure Rd as it states on this site. Other parks get most of the press. Which is good because the tourists can junk up those places and leave this one alone. There are lots of things to do here: multi-use trails, kayaking/canoeing, fishing, museums, etc. My biggest problem with the park lately have been jerks who tail gate me from 301 to the Park. These losers don’t realize that there are a few hair pin turns on that road and I don’t plan on spinning off the road and into the trees.

There a lot of things to see and do at this park next to the Patuxent River. You can go boating on the river and walk on the trails. The hiking trails and Boardwalks are well maintained and they are relatively easy to follow By The Way. Park staff are friendly and helpful By The Way. Yeah
