I love moonshine, good, pure, clean and smooth, this is what you get at Mill Street Distillery. The tour was so informative. The operation is good old fashion hard work and the taste of what they are making is out of this world. The bourbon is some of the best we have ever had

I’m 60 and from Tennessee, so I know what moonshine tastes like. First of all, no two are exactly alike. Bad ‘shine tastes too much of corn. Second of all, this is the best Moonshine I have ever tasted. The Bourbon was good, too. It was a great tour of the small distillery.

Since I don’t know what moonshine is supposed to taste like — I can’t comment on whether or not THIS is the stuff. Overall, I find their products odd — but as a way to recreate, it was something to do. The shine wasn’t horrid, but I wouldn’t pour 2 fingers after work and dwell on it. Once I got past the curiousity value, I was over it. Appearancewise, I’d describe Mill St as staged– like a hillbilly set in a B movie. Housekeeping was somewhat lax. However, the point of my comments is directed at their claim to be Ohio’s first moonshine makers. First of all, it’s a ridiculous statement. Nobody actually knows who made the first moonshine here. They don’t qualify the statement with ‘first legal moonshine”, instead, they just go for broke and claim the title. I think most people would see thru that. More importantly, they couldn’t have possibly done their homework before they decided to make it a pillar of their adverts. I had Woodstone Creek’s(Cincinnati) moonshine years BEFORE this place opened. Just a 2 second search on the internet produces a review of Woodstone’s Ridge Runner from Beverage Testing Institute, dated November 2011. That’s why I felt compelled to post this review. Somebody has to say something — why do they feel the need to make such a ridiculous claim? It’s off-putting.

Another great small Ohio business. Their clear moonshine corn whiskey was warm with just a light almond sweetness… after a tasting — I kept mulling over what the flavor was that it really called to mind. It finally clicked — it was along the lines of a heavier saké. Looking forward to watching their growth and tasting more of their spirits.
