The best place for breakfast lunch or dinner. Usually come in for breakfast. Great portions and staff. Always pleased, easy 5 star

I’ve lived within a few blocks of this place for nearly two decades but never made my way over because I thought it was just some grubby looking diner. I had originally set out to have lunch by myself over at Savory Grill(another family styled restaurant right down Van Dyke) but their parking lot was packed and I wasn’t in the mood for a wait or a crowded atmosphere. I’m glad I picked Steve’s because they’ve become a new family favorite. There are some things they do well and others they don’t, like everywhere else. I’ll start with the cons. — The place is dingy looking. It honestly has the feel of a restaurant that just wants to roll over and die. The décor is straight of out a Rams Horn, circa 1993. Even though it seems fairly hygienic, it’s one of those places that just always LOOKS dirty, you know? — A few of the soups(chicken lemon rice, cream of broccoli) are just bad. Awful bad. Now the pros. + Their fries are amazing. Literally so wonderfully delicious. As my 50 year old mother said, they’re «off the hook». + Their breakfasts(I’m speaking of both their regular breakfast special, as well as the regular pancakes) are fantastic. My kid didn’t want syrup on her pancakes and that really puzzled me, until I tried a bite and realized it tastes like a warm, chewy donut. The hash browns are, as someone mentioned earlier, basically«chopped up potatoes» but I prefer that to super thinly diced ones. They’re a bit dry but I just add a butter packet from the table. + I’ve never had it but my husband, who’s soup-phobic, tried their chicken noodle when he was getting over a bout of the stomach flu said it was the best soup he’d ever had. That the broth especially was wonderful. + Prices and portions are great. I’m a fatty who can kill a buffet and I don’t know if I’ve ever finished a meal here. So, basically, they’re 4⁄5 because the ambience makes you want to jump off a bridge but the food itself is spectacular. It is, remember, still one of those«greasy spoon» sort of diners so if you’re wanting something other than Kraft singles on your grilled cheese, this isn’t the place for you but if you’re in the mood for an artery clogging breakfast, you’ve found a gold mine.

A really, really good breakfast! Tried to share the potato pancakes and a special baja omelette. Couldn’t do it, way to much very good food. They must order a lot of carry out containers, as everyone I saw had one. both plates were very good! Waitress knew everything about menu. You can easily share 1 order, if you are not famished. Well worth a try!

This place lacks atmosphere, is not particularly clean and the food is ok at best. Many reviewers mention the breakfast being great but it is really uninspired, bland, basic food that does not cost much. Clearly there are many regulars in here who like to talk it up with the staff, but within a 5 minute drive you can find much better everything. I wish the owners would put some effort into improving the place and I would give it another try.

A great breakfast spot with all the classics and a stellar specials menu that won’t break the bank. Everything was spot on and the coffee was just what the doctor ordered. Staff was friendly and came around often to make sure everyone was ok and the cups were always filled. I’d never been in here before, but I wasn’t disappointed. A great place to stop.

Steve’s café is the most amazing place in the world! You can get about 20 pounds of food for $ 10! There potato pancakes and crepes are out of this world! For $ 5.75 you can get two pounds(4 gigantic) potato pancakes and bacon! And all the fixings! You get three giant cottage cheese crepes with whipped cream for 450!!! And we got the meadow Steve mini breakfast for $ 3.50 which included three pancakes bacon and the trimmings! We have leftovers enough for the rest of the afternoon and if anybody ever says that Steve doesn’t have the best potato pancakes and Southeast Michigan they can kiss my bum bum! Been going here for years and I’m going to keep on keeping on!!!

Owner replied«I don’t know» to my question about wether there was dairy in the stuffed mushrooms/cabbage. She didn’t even check. How careless! Do NOT come here if you have an allergy. The waitress with the noose tattooed on her hand was the nicest waiteress there. The owner tried waiting but she spilt some of my soup. Kids portions are very big. Has good polish food but they definitely have some prepackaged and canned foods here. Honestly I would give a better review if the owner didn’t spill soups and glare at me for having food restrictions.

eggs are the body of work that determines which diners go to heaven. armed with the foreknowledge that omelettes are somewhat brown, I opted for the safe over easy route. the big breakfast special came with a slice of pineapple over the ham. this started it off well right away. eggs were cooked correctly with no browning. hash browns were a mixed bag but still above average. the bacon was crisp. The gamble here is the wait staff. More AARP speed than high octane. If you are in the mood for sedate then no complaints.

Really a 2 ½. Felt like I walked into every restaurant I ate at as a child in the late 70s. Needs updating, food was edible and the hot dog bun that was served as the loaf of bread was amusing. Waitress was very nice.

Good café style food. My kids love this place. Good not great. A few times we got bad service other times it’s great. A good place for Sunday lunch after church. For the price and style of food it’s good. Kids like pancakes here for lunch

Best breakfast in town and friendly staff. Love their fresh sliced potato hash browns. They also have very good homemade soups. Everything is great! Never leave disappointed or hungry. Good portions of food.

Steve’s Café is not a fine dining type of restaurant. I would say it is good for breakfast and possibly lunch. Went to Steve’s on a Sunday morning and we were a party of six. Luckily there was room for us. Right away a waitress came and took our drink orders — of course it was either juice or coffee!!! Looking over the menu it has quite an extensive selection for breakfast. I opted for an omelet — Western I think it was. My grandson chose a kids menu cheeseburger, I took a picture of it because with the ketchup he made a happy face on the burger! No complainst from me, I looked at the humongous plate of food when it arrived and asked for a carry-out box. I cut everything in half and immediately put that in the box! Too much food. Not a complaint, but it was quite extensive I definitely would go back. I basically save the 4 and 5 stars for reviews from finer restaurants. If I had a review system for breakfast places this would definitely receive all 5 stars!

Quit going here. We used to get carry out. Because we live so close. But it’s nothing more than Gordon’s food service and the last few things we got is all you could taste was grease! Grease needs to be changed. Also their salads aren’t that great. Robert Irvine needs to pay this place if visit. I’m sure he would say the same.

We were walking around this early afternoon geocaching and our ears were pretty cold so decided to pop in here and grab some coffee and a little bit to eat. Unfortunately, not looking at the reviews before we walked in my boyfriend ordered the western omelet and immediately was not impressed with the presentation. He agrees with the other review saying it was to brown, tasted bland, the hash browns looked like cut up potatoes, and he just honestly didn’t like any of it which surprises me because he loves omelets from almost anywhere. I got a grilled cheese with onion rings and chicken noodle soup. The soup was very salty, the grilled cheese, like another reviewer said, had only one slice of very… Processed looking cheese and the onion rings were so so. We won’t be coming back, the reason I gave it an extra star is because the service was decent and there were a good amount of people in there. I would not recommend this place, we ended up hardly touching our meal, didn’t take anything home and was ready to get out of there.

This place should only be open for breakfast because it’s the only thing that they do well. Our dinners were really bad. The horrible mashed potatoes were topped with even worse yellow gravy. The side of veggies were a minced mix of carrots, peas, and green beans. Obviously from a can and probably cooking in a pot of water since yesterday. The cole slaw consisted of cabbage and mayo only! Cheese on the sandwich(only one slice), I think may have actually been a piece of plastic.

I’ve heard good things about the crepes. And boy oh boy were they good… Called ahead for a carryout, she said 10 minutes, when I rolled in they were putting them in the to go bag & asked did I want whip cream & powdered sugar? YES!!! Got the crêpe’s home & the to go box was FILLED with enough crêpe’s for us to both split & had some for leftovers the next morning

Went on a Sunday AM … parking lot was full and was almost reluctant to go in thinking there would be a long wait. Got seated almost immediately; great service right away. food came pretty quick for a full house. Had Steve’s Jumbo Breakfast for $ 5.49 … 3 eggs any way you want them, 3 meats, hash browns, toast, and pineapple. I can eat and could barely eat it all. Coffee/drink refills with out asking and food cooked exactly as ordered. I live in the area and this was my first time. Upon exit the owner and his wife wanted to know our names and introduced themselves. Forget the big franchise places … I’ll be back to this place.

Steve’s café has been a mainstay of local diners ever since I was kid. However, it has gone through quite a few transformations since the early ‘90s. Once a rather greasy spoon option, it’s now very nice and clean inside despite some rather kitschy décor. Food-wise, it has nice huge portions that are inexpensive and make your typical Sunday morning breakfast a solid outing. The only small disadvantage I see is that the parking lot is small and very hard to navigate so save yourself some time if it’s busy and park next door.
