Convenient and affordable place to spend a night. We stayed here because the campgrounds at Starved Rock State Park were full(sounds like they usually are). This campground is directly across from the park, maybe a mile or so south of the main enterance. It’s just before Grizzly Jack’s Grand Bear Resort. Only $ 25 for the night seemed very reasonable and the tent site was a nice size — plenty of room between the next-closest sites. First impressions weren’t great — you stop at a gate and go into a somewhat rundown«store» to pay. There was an older man working, and two or three young men sitting around smoking. But getting past first impressions, they were quite friendly and helpful. The bathrooms left a bit to be desired. The showers are coin-operated. My boyfriend showered with time to spare on one quarter, but I couldn’t figure out how to work the shower and took most of the first quarter turning knobs. If you want to spend more than a day at Starved Rock(which I recommend), this is a fine place to spend the night.
