FUTURE CUSTOMERS BEWARE! CONSIDER THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU GO!
In order for you guys to fully understand why this establishment (if you can even call it that) received a measly one out of five stars, and why I took the time to write this review requires me to start from the first moment I set foot in there. I stopped by to drop off my CZ75 slide for Doug (owner) to install some aftermarket front and rear sights that I had purchased. My initial interaction with Doug was surprisingly pleasant; from our conversation I was under the assumption that it’d be a quick job (maybe a few days). I left that day with high hopes thinking maybe the following weekend I could go and pick up my slide and try out the gun. So a week passes and no contact (by no contact I mean NO CONTACT ie. phone call, text, email, letter, telegraph… you get my point). Me being eager and hopeful, gave them a call. Whomever I spoke to pretty much informed me that the sights were not installed yet, and when I asked about how much longer it’d take he said the wait period is on average 3 weeks. THREE WEEKS?! THREE WEEKS?! Okay, I’ll be nice and wait some more. Two more weeks go by (and no contact what-​so-​ever, at this point I’m FED UP). I called them again to see how everything was going. This time the response was that Doug was working on it NOW (three weeks and you are working on it now?! give me a break) and when I asked when it’d be done, I was told that he didn’t know. NOW, that ladies and gentlemen is a head scratcher, how does someone not know when they might be done with a project that they started? BETTER YET, how does a gunsmith not know how long it’d take for himself to change out some sights? Does he not change sights on guns often? Is he inexperienced? I don’t know… The day after I called (mind you its already been 3 weeks), I stopped by the shop to pick up my slide, regardless of the progress they made (or didn’t make in this case). When I broke the news to them that I’d like to just take my slide and be done with the whole situation, Doug asks me for one more day on it. NO THANK YOU!
NOW HERE IS THE JUICY PART. (For those of you who have made it this far down on the review, I appreciate your time).
As I informed Doug of my frustrations and disappointments with his establishment (hole in the wall at this point to me. but I digress) and how he handled business, his german attack dog of a wife (who was sitting at a desk behind me) took offense and started barking. It was understandable because the truth hurts, but believe me when I say that I was 100% professional and chose my words wisely during my critique to avoid friction. She, as a good wife should, came to his defense and started yapping about how Doug works 40 hour weeks at Kaiser and then spends whatever hours he has left at the shop. I think we have a word for that in the English language and it is called an EXCUSE! Does that information matter to me? Is it relevant and does it even contribute anything? I’d answer NO. I don’t speak dog too well but she pretty much came up with another sorry excuse of how having to hand fit things takes longer. Okay, I get that, I’m not an idiot, but again this is after the fact that I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere so there was no need (just a waste of saliva).
Now you know when one gets riled up, the other inevitably does as well. Doug in trying to defend his lack of speed or better yet his lack of time to do gunsmithing projects told me that he hasn’t even spent an hour’s worth of time on it yet. Way to shoot yourself in the big toe… Let me help re-​jog your fading memory, three weeks have gone by and you’ve only put in less than an hour’s worth of time into my gun (WOW… just WOW). On top of that he adds that he has 70 other guns in the back that he is working on. At this point, say bye to your other big toe… I’m not the brightest mind around but add one and one together and it sounds like you are biting off more than you can chew.
I will skip a few other EXCUSES to the biggest flub that could have happened. I ask Doug how much I owed him because he did put some time into it (remember the wife is still at her desk behind me) and fortunately my girlfriend was there with me because otherwise I wouldn’t have known. She told me that when I asked Doug how much I owed him, his prized female dog was sitting on her hind legs behind me putting up numbers with her paws telling him how much to charge me up the behind. Whats even more hilarious for us (and sad for you two old fools) is that his wife noticed that my girlfriend saw and put her paws down. Now you might say I’m making this up but why would I? I don’t go out slandering people without reason. Unless she was throwing up gang signs or having some epileptic seizure, I think its safe to say that my assumption is right and that she was trying to screw me. Just because you had your prostate checked Doug doesn’t mean I need to as well.

Went in to drop of a shotgun for a Davidsons gun warrantee. First impression was that it was small and cluttered and had some reservations about the place. Then I got to meet the staff and what a world of difference. Ended up talking for almost two hours. Very friendly service, extremely knowledgeable and very patient. They answered all my questions, talked about the gun laws and gave me some very helpful tips. They have a new customer and the big gun store in Vacaville lost one. These guys are awesome!!!

When I first came in to BAF to purchase a gun, everything seemed great. When the owner was selling me the Glock and I was purchasing things, it went well. I mentioned that I had an older gun that was broken, a Walther P38. He said he happened to be a gunsmith so I was in the right place. To be fair, he did mention the parts are hard to find, but nonetheless took his fee upfront and assured me that he would do the best he could to repair the gun and find the parts.
Now, I am a fair man. In no way am I happy to write this negative review. Over the the past 10+ months that the owner had my gun, I did not receive any type of communication whatsoever. On a couple occasions I would pop in and check on the status and every time, he either would have trouble remembering the type of gun it was, or give me the feeling he had never even looked at it. I also would call a time or two. On at least 2 or 3 occasions I requested a part list so maybe I could help him out since there was never any progress on the parts. And I never received the list. Which is what brings me to the reason for writing such a negative review.
Yesterday I went in to pick up my gun because after 10+ months I decided I needed to take it to someone else, and I had a strong feeling he he never even looked at the gun after I brought it in initially. When he finally brought my gun out of the back, again I asked him for a part list so I could get the parts on my own. After fumbling with his words and telling me a couple parts just to tell me «oh wait, no, it’s a different part» then he proceeded to mutter «OH, this is starting to make more sense now!» Inferring that I only needed those two parts, and the surprise in his voice confirmed to me that he never even ordered the parts that he «had on back-​order». He even attempted to tell his wife «oh I guess we can cancel all those back orders we had». In my head I’m thinking, «come on, man, I’m not stupid». My point is, how could you order parts on back order if you didn’t even know what parts to order? Exactly, you can’t, it’s impossible.
This is more about how I was treated as a customer more than anything. The amount I put upfront was not that much money, less than $ 50. But he wasted almost a year of my time and made zero progress and I stick behind my statement that he never once even looked at the gun. Even if he was «slammed» like he said, he should have at least had a part list after more than 10 months.
I can’t recommend this store. If you’re looking for a gun or gun smithing, go somewhere else where your business will be appreciated.

Terrible customer service. The woman working is rude and inconsiderate. She is arrogant and unprofessional.

Definitely not the wrong business reviewed. The response to this review is definitely faster than any I have gotten. Usually it’s the runaround. If you call with questions half the time she will say her husband isn’t in, take a message and then you never hear back. Call again and it’s the same. Terrible. Have advised many friends to go elsewhere and they have.

I traveled here to do an exchange from Rocklin and I can say, without a doubt, Doug and Lori are top-​notch professionals who are extremely friendly and helpful. They even stayed late for me as the commute on 80 was heavy. I sincerely appreciate them and will use them again!

I have been here a few times to have my 1911 «fixed», even popped in just to say «Hi» once.
The first thing you notice when you walk in is the warm atmosphere. Lori is incredibly kind and helpful. From the get go, it felt like I was talking to someone I’ve known for years.
Doug just simply knows what he’s doing. He taught me how to properly strip my 1911 for cleaning because I was just curious.
Overall, very nice people to deal with, the prices they charge for jobs are more than fair.
Don’t hesitate to give them a call if you have any questions!

Lori and Doug are the best! In contact with me the whole way through (got work done on my 1911) and they were WAY LESS $$ than I expected, considering the work. Go here.

What a great store! I have used them for a purchase on Gunbroker. They were very professional, and great personal attention. I cannot say enough about their service. Very good prices on transfers as well.

This is a great inviting little shop. The woman at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. She made me want to spend my money there; not at all the case in other area gun shops. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was right next door to a shooting range.
