Absolutely a fun activity! From Lionshead you could walk and it is on the free bus route from Vail. Very easy to get to as Allison J mentioned.
The open skate hours are a bit limited, so just check in advance. The hockey and figure skating practice takes up most of the days, but open skate is fun and a great bang for your buck!

Ice rink that’s located between Vail Village and Lionshead. it’s on the free bus route so you can get to it very easily.
Thursdays offer 2 sessions for toddlers. $ 10 gets your child story time and skating with an instructor.
There’s open skate and other events available. But check the schedule because there’s also hockey practice and the public can’t skate then.
