Absolutely obscene pricing! Received an estimate for almost triple the price of other estimates we received from other electricians.

We moved into an old house where the previous owner had done a lot of his own wiring. There were more mystery switches and tangles of wires than most electricians seemed to know what to do with. After having unsuccessful visits from about 6 other companies, Eddie from Keating went through our whole house and problem solved everything. Since then, we have used Keating (specifically Eddie) for everything. One aspect I like about Keating is they charge by the job (they have priced out what things typically cost), not the hour. I never feel like they are dragging their feet to pad the bill. They take their time and do top-​notch, careful work.

I believe that Keating Electric gave me an outrageously inflated and dishonest quote for installing a generator switch, which made me suspect price gouging as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
I had ordered my own generator switch kit, which was a do-​it-​yourself kit. In other words, it was prepared so that a do-​it-​yourselfer should be able to install it. Of course, it should be a piece of cake for a licensed and experienced electrician.
The cost of the switch kit was $ 350. Keating Electric wanted $ 2,600 to install it!!! Unbelievable, just unbelievable. I obviously declined to have the kit installed for this outrageous price, and called the company to complain.
The service manager called me back and mostly talked about how expensive everything was. The only additional thing I needed from them was a 40 foot wire going from my panel to the outside of my garage. I told him that I could not believe that it should cost $ 2,600 to install a do-​it-​yourself kit. The conversation ended with the service manager all but admitting that a simple installation of my kit would not yield a high enough bill for them to be interested in the job.
In other words, Keating seemed to be most interested in creating an expensive bill, and didn’t seem to care about my needs as a home owner one bit. And this is right after we experienced a lengthy and harrowing power outage because of Hurricane Sandy.
