I was looking for the Sandwich Guy on Benicia Rd. first, but discovered his business went belly-up already. Unilocal listed this sandwich shop nearby. When I drove up around noon, the joint looked open – sort of – with the window lights turned off, but a sign in the door. Proceeded inside. Definite mom-n-pop operation, not in a good way. Deli looked like it was connected to a house or living quarters in the back. 2 female workers there looked overwhelmed and uninterested with one of them chasing a kid around behind the counter. Never was really greeted by anyone. Couple of other customers came in and were served out of order. It quickly became clear that ordering a sandwich this day was going to be a 30+ minute endeavor. Couldn’t wait that long and had to leave w/o getting a thing. Mom & Pop need some help. Maybe need to add another sign in the darkened window saying«We’re Hiring.» Just read another review saying they’re closing the deli side 06.27.14. Oh well, back to Togo’s & Subway. Wanna support Vallejo business, just not ones that are less than mediocre. Welcome the closure.

Sad that this place is closing on June 27th due the family retiring. The bakery’s will sill be open, which is good. Fresh bread and delicious fillings. The best Reuben or grilled vegetable sandwich. Goes well with the lemonade. Their chocolate chip cookies are to die for, must try the chocolate chai cookies. Lovely décor.

I would have never known this place was here before Unilocal searching Deli in Vallejo. Came in the other day. Ordered the turkey reuben. It was very good! Great tasting turkey. The kraut was so good. Not too salty, very crisp, just like I like it. The dressing was creamy and flavorful. Yeah, the price is more than what you would pay at Subway, but this is quality food and I feel good supporting my local businesses. Vallejo needs more mom and pop stores and less franchised crap. I will return to Dillon Bread.

For a great sandwich –this joint’s a sure bet. Dillon’s Bread Company has been a fixture in Vallejo for 20+ years. I especially enjoy the Roasted Vegetable sandwich; it’s a tasty sandwich that’s actually good for you! No sacrifice of taste for your health required. What you add as a side is entirely up to you. I personally enjoy the house-baked cookies, but potato crunchers needn’t worried, there’s a wide selection of chips offerings to appease even you, The Crunch Captain. Enjoy this joint while you can, because come June, the owner is retiring and shutting it down. She’ll keep her catering side of the business, which means you’ll have to get a minimum of 5 other people to go in with you on a purchase(her minimum is 6 sandwiches).

We stopped here to grab a sandwich to take with us to Sonoma and it was probably the best idea ever! I will definitely be going back.

The food is average & the service leaves something to be desired. I came here with a buddy after a recommendation from a friend, but I still don’t see what the big deal is.

Indeedy. I don’t know how some businesses in this city manage to do it, but some are able to pull off the seemingly impossible: keep a business open in this city AND be good at what they do. First off, this place is sorta hidden. I live in Vallejo and had no clue that we would always drive by this place without knowing. It’s basically tucked inside a small plaza. If you’re not careful, you’ll drive right past it. All ninja status aside, they make sandwiches here at the Dillon Bread Company. Really good sandwiches as a matter of fact. That’s pretty darn important as, unlike say a Berkeley or an Oakland, there are not many(if at all, now that I think about it) straight up sandwich spots here in Vallejo. Sure, you have your chains like the ever present(and disgusting) Subway’s and even a Togo’s if you look hard enough, but… those are chains. You will never get something crafted by actual people, as opposed to devised by a corporation. It’s not going to taste as fresh either. Anyways, they’ve got an impressive amount of sandwich options here. Two of my favs are the hot pastrami and a hot turkey sandwich I had there. Sandwiches are made right there, and not in some utilitarian manner either. The bread… I’m not sure if they make themselves? I’ve never asked, even though this place has the word«Company» at the end of their business name. Regardless, the breads here are wonderful and are not cheap in quality or taste as the chain competitors. Service here is good too. I’m not sure how/why people are saying they’ve been met with rude customer service. I’ve gotten nothing but good service here. Friendly, reliable, and timely as well when it comes to preparation. Prices are also reasonable, considering the quality product you’re getting here from a Vallejo-owned business. All in all, this is one of those spots here in the beloved city of mine that I hope never closes it’s doors. Hopefully, other businesses can have as much success as they do. One here can only dream. It’s a good dream though.

Have you ever seen that episode of Seinfeld with the Soup Nazi? Anyways, I work close to Dillon’s so go here fairly often despite the services because the sandwiches are pretty damn good. You’re best bet is to call your order in because she gets busy pretty easily. I always go for Robert’s Favorite Cobb add provolone. You have to try a jumble cookie too.

Just stopped by for a sandwich. Have been looking for a good sandwich place I. Vallejo that wasn’t fast food or a chain and I finally found a place that deserves my business. Ordered a club sandwich and it was delicious. The place is a bit pricey considering but I have no regrets. The service was abrupt even though the place wasn’t busy. Doesn’t matter to me though. It kind of adds to the character of the place. It’s a little hole in the wall that seems almost like a snapshot from another era. Was it the BEST sandwich I ever had? No. Would I eat there again? Most definitely.

Take the time to go find this place. It’s well worth it. It’s a little gem of Vallejo with always fresh made sandwiches. They have great variety and even have fresh cookies and salads/sides. The price is reasonable for what you get. My personal favorite is to get the«Fog Horn/Leg Horn» as a combo. I’d recommend calling ahead during the lunch rush. The service might rub you the wrong way sometimes, but I know they mean well. Touro Students get a $ 1 off as well.

Despite it being across the street from a sanitation center, Dillon’s Bread has a clean and trustworthy facility. The service has been consistently smooth every visit whether eating there, or calling for pick up. They are very polite and welcoming. The quality of the food is the reason why I am a consistent customer though. Dillon’s sandwich selection is wide in variety especially if you are vegetarian or vegan. Being a vegan I usually choose between the Capri, Zenwich, Cathy’s Grill, Venwich, or Eggplant club. They also offer standard sandwiches you’d find at any typical deli, salads, sides of rice and beans, soups, and really good fresh baked cookies, vegan cookies, brownies and cupcakes. This place is definitely the spot for a vegan or vegetarian since it is one of few vegan places to eat. The food is fresh and there’s no doubt because they are only open from 11am-2pm. By closing time their homemade bread made out of walnuts and beer is sold out along with certain other ingredients. This deli gets packed at times especially during the peak of lunch so it’s best to come before noon to avoid a wait. Dillon’s Bread overall is my current favorite spot and I hope it stays in operation.

Dillon has been on my radar for awhile. I should have sifted through the rave reviews and looked more closely at the 1 – 2 starred ones, because those mirror my highly dissatisfying experience here. Run by vegetarians, they offer a healthy offering of veggie sandwiches and salads. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre – over $ 9 for a very basic salad, something I could’ve put together(that’s not saying much). I was drawn toward it because it came with fake meat – in this case, soy bacon. I was expecting strips, but instead, got Bacos or the equivalent. My brother ordered some meat filled sandwich and was disappointed… so disappointed that he stopped by In-N-Out afterward for a redemption meal. The worst part of it all was the service – very abrupt, no pleasantries. It’s a very negative vibe here, that feeling as though your mere presence is a burden to them. And it wasn’t busy; we were the only customers around. There’s just no excuse for it. Our number was called out, and the food in a basket was tossed onto the counter for us to pick up. Even if the food wasn’t that great, I would’ve been a lil more forgiving had the server been more friendly(just say«hi, how are you» even if you don’t really care!); I might’ve even been willing to give them another chance. I’d expect this treatment at McDonald’s, not a mom-and-pop joint whose business thrives on word-of-mouth. You’d probably get away with treating your customers like that if your food were great, a la The Soup Nazi. But it’s not. They did have a pinball machine, but it was unplugged. I would’ve inquired about it, but feared having my head chewed off. If you’re in the area and jonesing for a meal, head down to the waterfront and dine at Good Day Café(which boasts similar hours, but are open 7 days a week) where the service and food are above and beyond what Dillon Bread will ever be.

Delicious sandwiches, $ 1 off if you’re a student, lots of choices, can’t go wrong. I like the home-y independent feel. This would be a cool place to be «one of the usuals» at.

This place is no more than 3 stars, for sure. I mean, the sandwiches are good/tasty – but they’re nothing more than that. They’re just basic ingredients you can get at Safeway; it didn’t seem like the things in my sandwich were more fresh than what you can get at the market. My sandwich, I think it was called the Widow-Maker, was too salty. I didn’t like it. They have interesting cookies here, try one. This is one of those places that closes early and runs out of ingredients if you come in the latter parts of the restaurant hours. That’s weak. It’s not like their product is so good that it runs out quick. I think it’s just a stocking problem for them. Talk about losing customers. The only thing I really like about this place is that it feels antique-ish so it’s like you’re eating in an old-fashioned café. This place would get 4 stars if the sandwiches were about $ 2 cheaper. I would not come back here, but I would recommend trying it once – only once.

Finally, a decent sandwich place in vallejo! I dock one star for the fact that they’re not open later and not on the weekends. Be that as it may, this pace is crazy good and I dig me a good sandwich. Its definitely off the beaten track and would have never know it to be there until a friend showed me the light. Everything tasted hommemade and fresh. The breads are baked daily as are the desserts. H goes there almost to a sickening extent for the cupcakes. Really, the star is the bread as it is hearty and really makes the sandwich. I appreciate the fact that they tost the bread with a little butter to make the sandwich really melt-in-your mouth. The pesto was a nice touch and I am really pleased that they offer a student discount. Will be making many a lunchtime trip from this point forward.

I’m giving this place 4 stars, over 3, because it is in Vallejo and i have yet to find anything close to a decent sandwich shop here. kudos for these people making it work the turkey tasted and looked like it was roasted on site. the bread was decent, nothing super amazing, but it was fresh and good. the salads i saw being made looked filling enough for a construction worker to have for lunch the cookies were just ok

Roxy V.‘s review is spot on. I’ve heard about this place for a while, so when I happened to find myself near Vallejo around lunch time, I made sure to stop on by and see what the hype was all about. Got the Yosemite on wheat. I nearly choked while chewing my first bite — that sandwich is DRY. Yes, I didn’t put any condiments on, but I’ve never had bread that so dry it made me gag. I liked the crust on it(tasted like it had a touch of honey) but the bread crumbled apart in my hands. The meat was like any other sliced deli meat, nothing special. At nearly $ 8 for a sandwich, this was an epic fail on a lot of levels. The extra star was for the cookies. I had the jumble cookie and it was large, fresh, and dee-lish. If they called this the«Dillon Cookie Company,» my expectations would have been different and they would have gotten a lot more stars from me. For a little shop that tries to portray the small-town homey kind of feel, the ladies who run the counter are less than charming. They aren’t rude, but certainly are not there to make you feel comfortable. Even though I was one of two customers in the shop, when my sandwich was ready, they just yelled out my number, threw down the bag, and walked away. I wasn’t expecting a round of applause as I picked up my purchase, but a simple«Here you go,» with eye contact would have been nice. Definitely a hidden hole-in-the-wall joint — but unfortunately, not worth the search.

I wouldn’t go so far as to give this Deli 5 stars, but they certainly do make a tasty sandwich! My wife said she came here a couple of months back and thought I ought to give it a try. Since I’m working from home today and needed a quick sammich while fixing bugs, I cruised down here for a quick lunch on the go. It certainly isn’t easy to find but Ryder’s not a huge long street so take your time and you’ll pick the place out soon enough. I walked in and ordered Big Mike’s Pastrami sandwich on Rye. It’s basically a pastrami sandwich with added jalapeño peppers for a nice kick. It was a very good sandwich and I most certainly would come back here to try something else. Service was fast and friendly and, best of all, the sandwich was made fresh as I watched. $ 8.50 includes a soda, so it’s relatively cheap for some good eats. Hooray for Dillon Bread Company!
