My wife had the Dinner Combo with Salmon Shioyaki and Calif. Roll. She thought the Shioyaki was completely mediocre. I ate her Calif Roll and can confirm it too was unremarkable. My son ordered Chicken Udon and a 49er roll and he liked both. I tried one piece of the 49er roll and agree it was nice. I ordered the Titanic roll. It was good, but seemed small for that price category. The server was pleasant and polite, but he forgot to bring out my Sapporo(unforgivable!). Also, all the food came out in random order. When you have a party of two or more they should be smart enough to bring out the food in some logical sequence. We had a situation where one member of our party was eating while the others waited, then another item would be delivered to our table and then it was someone else’s turn to eat while the other two waited. Crazy. Throughout this meal we were wishing we went to Yo Sushi instead. Finally, the bill came, so I place my credit card into the provided cup. Later the server comes back with an iPad with what appeared to be a SQUARE attached. So, STEP1: I’m supposed to choose a gratuity, either 15, 20, or 25% while the server is standing right there eyeballing this whole process??? Ridiculous! Then, STEP2: I’m supposed to electronically sign. I should have just drawn an «X» on that screen. I didn’t get a credit card receipt, so I get up and ask about a hardcopy receipt. They act like I’m the first one who’s ever asked for a credit card receipt in the restaurant’s entire existence. So the guy brings me the same bill and presents that as the receipt. This«receipt» doesn’t have any credit card information on it nor the final amount with gratuity. I’m the type of person who diligently reconciles all bank and credit card accounts every month. I post every transaction to a register. If there’s a problem(admittedly, very rare) I have the receipt to use as evidence with the CC company. Theoretically, Matsuri could change the amount charged to my account and I wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. What if they wanted a 500% tip? Anyway, why can’t the do credit card translations like the rest of the universe? Why are they so rink-e-dink to be using SQUARE? This isn’t a taco truck! I chose a 15% tip but I have no idea what the total amount charged to my card was. Is the tip calculated before or after tax? Finally, the restaurant name is Matsuri, but the bill says KIMCHEE. What’s up with that? Food quality vs. price: we walked out feeling ripped-off. Never again. We will go back to good old reliable Yo’s. Forgotten Sapporo: to me this is a major screw up. Restaurants want their patrons well lubricated and they missed out on an opportunity for more booze sales. Credit card nonsense: a proper receipt is important to some people, like myself. Choosing a gratuity while the server is practically holding the iPad in front of you is about as stupid as it gets. Let’s make the customer feel really pressured and uncomfortable. If he didn’t forget my Sapporo he would have gotten 20%, I get that the restaurant business is hard because there is so much competition. But it’s not hard to execute. It ain’t rocket science. This place has issues.

This place is very inconsistent. The food is either pretty good or bland. It’s a hit or miss. I’ve been going here for years(Vallejo & Benicia location) and both seem to be the same. My go-to order is a miso soup, vegetable tempura and pink lady. The miso soup was mediocre. You can’t really mess up miso soup. The vegetable tempura is the right amount of crispness and tenderness inside. The pink lady is sometimes«eh» and sometimes great. They definitely cut back on the length of the roll. They used to give a lot more than they do now. Lately, the pink lady roll has been pretty good. I highly recommend ordering it if it’s your first time.

I really wish this place hadn’t gone down the drain. The one in Benicia is still really good. This place just seems kinda dirty and I’ve gone in twice and the tempura tasted stale or old or something and I’m not going back but the waitresses were nice and speedy so they are the only reason I’m giving this more than one star. Good luck

It REALLY pains my heart that I have to give this place two stars. Really and truly. I am the BIGGEST fat kid and honestly when I’m drunk ANYTHING taste scrump dilly dumpticious! But this was NOT the case with matsuri. Sigh. I would rather buy a california roll from safeway this is how bad my experience was with matsuri. I mean don’t get me wrong. It’s SUPER cute inside. I would definitely give it three maybe even 4 stars if the customer service was on point JUST for the ambiance. I graduated in Japan so I’ve experienced the REAL sushi joints as a teenager and matsuri hits it right on the dot minus the sushi go round. It has a real Japanese sushi restaurant ambiance unlike the rest of the sushi joints around vallejo. I go to sushi grill by sonoma often because it’s close to my house, but my real love is Yo sushi. I tried matsuri just because it’s been around for the longest then I can remember. I’ve been going to visit my dentist mr and mrs. Caro since they were located in this little plaza where setty dental is now before they relocated to broadway. I even grew up on Valle Vista and so I’ve seen Matsuri sitting there for ages. Being 26 I’m ashamed that it was very first time trying it. Unfortunately I wish I woulda skipped out on the experience. Given… the restaurant’s inside is super cute BUT the food is sooo medicore. I got the pink lady merely because of the rave reviews on Unilocal.Only reason I think it got rave reviews is because it was topped with green onion and every other pink lady I’ve ever had was not. This green onion gave it a little bit of a kick. But just not enough for my liking. I wished I woulda went to sushi grill Even though it isn’t my top favorite but it is definitely more convienient of a drive and not dissapointing for me. Next time… I’ll stop being lazy and make that trip ALLTHE way to Glen Cove just to get my sexy and my deluxe california roll from YO sushi. I’d only visit matsuri again if I was trying to look cute on a date. If I’m far from sober and have the munchies for some god heavenly food to satiate my hunger… I will go elsewhere. Drunk munchies very unsatisfied. That is all that is it.

Its okay sushi that I would not go out of my way for honestly. No other way to review it but that. I definitely wouldn’t get brave here and try some exotic fish. After all, what do you expect for what your paying?

I Attended the O’Regan Wedding here at Matsuri’s on January 23, 2016 and was treated to some of the best food ever! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was excellent. The staff that served the food was helpful in explaining what certain dishes were, and ALWAYS had a smile on their faces. From the«I Do’s» to the best cup cake Wedding Cake EVER, all the way to the last song, this was a GREAT place to host a wedding… It was big, yet intimate… and the Guests(along with the Bride and Groom) constantly had smiles on their faces which told me… they were having a BLAST… What better way to remember a special day… Great food, great location, and a great waitstaff… Thank You Matsuri… job well done!

I love Matsuri ! Great food and service. I have been going here for a couple of years and they have been very consistent. Food is nice and fresh. I am not a fish sushi lover so I prefer the veggie maki with soy wrap and gluten free soy sauce. Only downfall for me is that they don’t have brown rice and it’s a little pricy to substitute items but I will continue to go back !

Went to visit family, and they suggested this place cause they go here often. It was the best choice they could have picked. I miss my FRESH sashimi, nigiri, and creative sushi rolls. This place hits the spot.(Keep in mind that we moved from Hawaii a month ago) Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures because we were HUNGRY. I can tell you though, everything was well presented, pleasing to the eye, and tasted fresh. Sashimi was cut nice, oysters were great, and the toro was nice and fatty. I’ll be back again and I promise to take pictures of the awesomeness that was bestowed upon us.

I have been here a few times, dinner is a bit pricey but food is good. If you want more bang for your buck lunch time is best as they have the bento boxes at reasonable price. Nice ambiance, the wait staff though could use a bit more training. 5 mins from my house so that is good, a little cramped on the parking spot though.

If you’re coming for lunch, remember they close at 2! I came here with my friend and got here 20 min before they closed. I honestly thought they were going to tell us the kitchen is closed. BUT we got exactly what we wanted. We ordered the rainbow roll, miso soup, pink lady, and of course SAKE! Aha! Service was on point. Every time my glass was low on water they would refill it right away. I’ve been coming here a few times the past few years and the service is always great! This place never disappoints. I just wish they have $ 1 oysters again!

Ordered a rice less roll and this is what I get? I wasted $ 12 on this. I understand rice less sushi isn’t something every sushi restaurant offers, but if you just don’t know how to make it then tell me. Don’t risk losing a customer.

Worst sushi I ever had. 30 minutes after eating I have some digestion issues. Crazy monkey was a NO-NO! It was mushed up fish in a roll drenched in sauce. Server was a bit frustrated since we had a large group and we kept trying to figure out what we want. The food all came out a different times. My friend got hers after half of the table started eating since we couldn’t wait any longer. It was a bit pricey for what we received. Best part: happy hour have taro fries!

Good atmosphere, good food. Brung the family here and we all left satisfied. We had veg temura, vegi maki, salmon maki, caterpilar maki, and some crab and tuna nagiri. All were excelent. We will return upon our next sushi craving.

The restaurant has an authentic Japanese atmosphere that we like. We were pleased to learn that we came in time for happy hour discounts. Hot sake is only $ 3.50, a variety of items are on the happy hour menu and the Maki sushi — which are already reasonably priced — are 15% off until 6:30 pm. The«Oyster Katsu» appetizer was delicious… so much so that we ordered a second! The waiter recommended«Pink Lady,» which is shrimp tempura topped with crab, and Tobiko; although it didn’t have a pink appearance, it was attractive and delicious. The«Tiger Eye» maki, made of baked salmon wrapped in squid, had a fresh taste enhanced by the shiso leaf inside. The«49er Maki» made with hamachi and maguro was simple but tasty. However, we were quite disappointed by the«Chicken Karage» as they truly looked and tasted like tiny(and terrible), chickenless scraps of batter dribbles one strains out of the oil. The«Asian Fries,» which are fried taro and sweet potato, came with a very bland«garlic» aioli. I am particular about wasabi and noticed that the wasabi it was not as fresh as I like it(wasabi loses its punch when exposed to air too long). When I asked for fresher wasabi, they wanted to charge me an additional $ 3.50 for it. Outrageous; never before have I been told I would be charged extra for wasabi. For this, I have to downgrade them on service. I do plan to return. Unfortunately at this point, they only earned two stars from me. My rating may improve if the service and food are better during my next visit.

Hands down the best place to get sushi in the Vallejo area. I just moved here and have been trying to find a decent sushi place only to leave severely disappointed after every place I’ve checked out. I don’t know why people like the fast food places so much around here that makes a complete mockery of sushi. Their quality is horrible and price isn’t even cheaper! WHY?! After all the disappointment I’ve endured I honestly wasn’t expecting much here. I’ve started judging sushi restaurants by first seeing how well they make tekka maki. The tekka maki here had clean and straight cuts, the tuna was fresh, and surprisingly of a more fatty(and expensive) melt-in-your-mouth cut. The shape was not the traditional squarish shape… but now I’m just being overly critical aren’t I? Okay, so tekka maki wasn’t bad. I also ordered uni, sake, ika, and amaebi. All were pretty good, rice was a good texture, sushi was good temperature. Looks like this will be my sushi spot from now on.

This review is coming from someone who has been to Japan. I think the food here is mediocre – not bad, not amazing. I had the chicken katsu bento during lunchtime, and it was okay. I have had better chicken katsu in Japan and America, but it was by no means bad, just mediocre. It was under $ 10 with tax(tip not included). It also had quite a few sides including one gyoza, some California rolls, rice, pickled something, and a salad. The only thing I disliked was the salad. The dressing was extremely watery; it was just running off the lettuce, so I did not really touch it. Is this the best Japanese place in Vallejo? Maybe. I have only been Suruki’s, and I think Suruki’s a 1.5÷5. I do not know much about Matsuri’s sushi, but I am sure I will go back and try it. I will give Matsuri’s a 2.5÷5. Most will think to round up to 3, but I will keep it at 2 for Unilocal’s rating scale.

My family and I have been dying to try the Matsuri’s in Vallejo, because we’ve been to the one in Benicia many times. Once it turned 5 o’clock, my family wasn’t the only ones who arrived on time. People poured into the restaurant. It must be a neighborhood favorite! My waitress, Stephanie, was very nice and helpful with what to order for my mom. I tried the Pink Lady Roll. It was really good, as said on Unilocal many times, but it wasn’t a roll I’d get every time. I really want to try Dragon! But it’s the most expensive. Anyways, I loved it!
