Plain & Fancy Dog Salon

DISGUSTING! I walked into «Plain & Fancy Dog Salon,» however this place should be called «Old & Borrowed Dog Salon.» I was disturbed when I saw the two older women in the back talking extremely loud, as I waited to inquire about their grooming services. Clearly if I bring my dog to get groomed, it’s obvious that he needs grooming. One of the ladies was like «OMG he needs a grooming!» I thought to myself OKAY maybe she just doesn’t have any etiquette. She proceeded to have me write my information on an index card, however, as I stood there I could see how NERVOUS my dog was! Usually he is a little timid, but he literally was grabbing onto me for dear life!!! Again I thought to myself, this is NOT a good sign. The woman then proceeds to tell me to put him onto the table and to put the wire collar on his neck. I gently placed it around my dogs neck and Unilocalers he started crying and I thought to myself something is NOT RIGHT about this place. I informed one of the ladies how I would like him to be groomed, and she started to get loud and began to compare my dog to another dog locked up in a cage that she claims is brought in every 6 weeks! I again redirected the conversation to how I want MY DOG to look, and she says how combing through him, is like combing through a person with dreadlocks! WHOAAAAAA LADYYYY! I immediately removed my dog from the wire collar and explained to her that her delivery was horrible! This dog groomer had zero communication skills and her voice began to escalate as she was clearly losing her mind! She then took a fine tooth comb and dragged it through my dogs hair and he began to shiver!
This place is horrible! I think the only reason why they have five stars is because these two women clearly write their OWN reviews! The place needs an extreme makeover and they need to invest in business etiquette because as a dog lover, I felt uncomfortable for my dog and the other dogs in that dump!

This isn’t the fanciest grooming place but I must say they really do an amazing job and truly accommodate their customers. This is about my 6^th I’m taking my dog ginger to get groomed. They always do a great job and are really quick. I would recommend plain and fancy ti anyone that needs a groomer for their pets.

I have been bringing my two babies (a Lab and a Poodle) here for 10 yrs. If you want a groomer who loves animals and knows about their health issues… this is the place! Nail clipping, ear cleaning, expressing glands are all part of the grooming process… it isn’t «extra». Rita will tell you if you need to take your baby to the dr, ie if she comes across something while grooming like an ear infection. She is just awesome! My lab has horrible allergies and often looks like a walking snow storm when we arrive. However, when he leaves Plain and Fancy… he looks like the cutest, shiniest old pup ever! Sometimes she has to wash him 4 times! Petco will not take this time with my pet and he will be returned to me looking like the same snow storm! My poodle is very moody/​snippy but Rita takes her time with him. She knows animals, loves them and handles them all with love and care. Its not a fancy looking salon but IF u want top notch personal care for your pet this is the place! It’s a Mom and Pop shop that we should support! She provides a service that’s long gone. I’ve been living in Brooklyn now for the last year and I STILL drive my dogs to Rita! I tried a local petco and although I didn’t have to make the drive to LI… the experience was awful.
