First visit here, by virtue of a Groupon offering, and it won’t be my last. Friendly staff and great food. Husband and I both had Chicago style dogs and the unique chips/fries that have just a hint of seasoned salt. Owner/cook offered samples of their chili too, and I understand why it did really well in a chili cook-off. Loved the heat of it that was just right. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but looks are deceiving. Glad to support a local business!

Little hole in the wall of of Lincoln Highway. Great staff super friendly. Got the homemade chips, could have eaten ten orders… so good. The Chicago Dog was excellent. The chili dog with homemade chili was the best I have ever had. The Maxwell Polish was very very good. Great place have now found my new regular joint. Can’t wait to try the other items.

Homemade chili and soups and hotdogs grilled not steamed. Personable owner and friendly service. Give this little gem a try; you will not be disappointed.

I don’t know if she was having an off day, But she was the owner, It was the worst hot dog’s ever… Our hot dogs were burnt and way too much mustard. Our beef was out of the container beef. Had way better hot dogs from Lowes. The right ingredients just put together all wrong. The place filled up with smoke from the burnt hot dogs. threw half our meal away, what a waste of our money.

I absolutely love thiS place! The hot dogs are perfection, the buns are soft and the owner is super down to earth and easy to relate to. I crave this plane when I think about hot dogs. Their homemade potato chips are super yummy!

Pretty good hot dogs; and genuine Chicago dogs: Vienna dogs, seeded Rosen buns, bright green relish, and all the rest. Oh yeah, those homemade chips are too good to be legal! Don’t let the street construction stop you. They’re open for business.

Hot tasty Italian beef, cheap and fast. Hard to beat that. O, friendly service to go with it!

I can understand that waiting for a hot dog can seem outrageous – after all, what could take so long. I’ll tell you – making it correctly obviously takes time. This was the best hot dog I have had in the region, and I cannot wait to get it again. They have a few options as to size and toppings, and I’d wager none of them disappoint. Be a little bit patient, and I guarantee you’ll leave a happy patron.

They make authentic Chicago dogs. They grill the dogs instead of steaming them. Real seeded buns, vienna franks and all the proper fixins including the neon relish. I was impressed. They also do homemade Italian beefs. I’m gonna try that next time. Both the ladies working in there were real cool too. Prices are very reasonable.

I’ve had the«Italian beef» from several places around Valpo and this was by far and away the best. Got the soup of the day once and it was some sort of jambalaya with smoked sausage in it and all sorts of good. My friend got the Italian sausage and is still talking about it two days later, and I also satisfied my inner fat kid by getting a chili cheese dog which was amazeballs. It also helps that the owner is super friendly. Been here several times and haven’t been disappointed yet. Oh yeah the Parmesan roundabouts were great too.

Who knew? Great for vegetarians too! Today we tried the veggie hot dog, veggie Italian sausage, vegetarian chili, and the crazy drilled potato(plus some non-vegetarian hot dogs for the kiddo). Everything was delicious! My favorite was the Italian sausage. It was so good with mustard, onions, and the sports peppers. I love the way that little bit of pepper juice squirts right into your eye if you bite into it just so. The chili is loaded with beans and very hearty and with just the right amount of spice. The potatoes were beautiful, crispy, and seasoned just right. I’m happy that I finally tried this place that I thought wouldn’t have anything for me. Loved it!

Valpo Vienna(Valpo, IN) — Inside this unassuming place on Napoleon is a gem for anyone craving Chicago style street food. Not an average hot dog place, food is made to order, and with care by the owner and his crew. Chili is crafted on location, and homemade chips are sliced & fried to a golden perfection in front of you. Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, Maxwell Street polishes and a nod to New York with tasty Coney dogs. Check out the all too funny Chuck Norris poster on the wall.

Great fries, great hot dog except my cheese was cold. Service was slow but friendly. I would go back to get a hot dog without cheese.

Fast service, cheap prices, great location, great food, and very friendly staff. I accidentally stumbled upon this place the week it first opened and was pleasantly surprised by everything about it — the overall concept, the quaintness of the location, the speed of service, the great taste of the food, the special SPAM items on the menu … I could go on and on. What impressed me the most, however, was a conversation that I had with the owner the first time it was in. From hearing how the idea for the store came about, to his certification as a true Vienna expert thay he traveled to Chicago to obtain, and the way he treated me as a customer and as a person … this is the essence of a real, homegrown small business at its finest, and what separates local businesses from the traditional mechanized fast food chains like McDonalds. Here, people come first; elsewhere, you can tell that profits and the bottom line do. On my very first visit here, I knew that I had found a rare«gem» here in Valpo. Again, with great food, good prices, and very accommodating hours to fit your schedule, this place is worth a visit, even once.

This place is quick, cheap, and super tasty. I take all my friends here when they visit Valpo. I love their little frequent purchase card although I’ve never filled mine up. They’re also the only place I know to get ribbon potato chips outside of a fair.

The two stars is for service. Being in the Chicagoland Region, they have the best(Vienna) ingredients, so food is quite good. The major flaw is the service time. I watched the owner(by myself, no other customers in the place) place a polish on the grill as slow as I’ve ever seen. It took forever to cook… When it came to the condiments, he placed the first tomato on the dog with slow, steady care. He then placed the second tomato on the dog with equal care. He then noticed the first tomato was not quite spaced as perfectly as the second, so he removed it and replaced it. Then he paused and moved on to the onions… and so on, 13 minutes to completion. I swear to you that it seemed as though he was going that slow as some sort of prank. This was at lunchtime on a Tuesday, and this place is in the heart of the Valpo business district. People need to get in and out. If you wanna be all fresh and creative, fine. Do it during off-peak hours. During the lunch ‘rush’, have a few pre-mades ready for those of us that just want a dog, not a Picasso.

Place was a mess. The round about(chips) were very good. To run a hot dog place you must be able to turn a lot of food around to make money and keep clients happy. Have a bunch of dogs ready to go. It was lunch time and they should have the grill filled w Dogs and yet after our order the manager told the cook to add 4 more dogs. Then took 15 mins to cook the dog and they were cold in the middle. And this place did not just go through a huge lunch time crowd… that’s how they do it. It takes too long and the dogs are cold in the middle. The young girls working behind the counter looked as if they never made a hot dog before. Valpo needs a good Chicago Dog but the owner needs to check out a few places in Chicago to see how it’s done.

I love this place! I’m always coming by once a week. The thing that makes me come back is not the good taste, but that Pat makes his food with pride and is very careful with it. Not many people are like this now. So if you want to eat at a place where your food is made carefully, with pride, and tastes good, this is the place!
