I am new to the area and have been trying to find a salon. I was referred here by a friend. I never made it past the initial call. The receptionist was not accommodating when her initial suggested time did not work out for me. She also seemed extremely distracted on the phone, especially when she hung up on me without saying good bye. If they want new costumers they really need to train their staff on phone calls better.

I came here last weekend for a facial and had a great experience! All the staff was very friendly and the salon was really clean! Natasha did my facial and she was so sweet and didn’t a wonderful job! By far the best facial I have ever had! Highly recommend!

I have been going to Vanis on and off most of my life. I’m 30 now so I’d say the better part of 15 years. I moved to Valpo so now go to the Valpo salon and love it. I love Jordyn… she can always squeeze me in if I am in dire need and she does an excellent job. I also get my brows waxed here. I have a stubborn brow and they always know not to mess with it too much. I love this place. I’m sad to see so many people don’t like them. I have never had an issue with the front door staff either. They always greet me with a smile and are quick to take care of my needs. Big fan of Vanis and always will be.

I have visited this salon twice just to purchase Aveda products because my regular salon doesn’t carry that brand any longer. I agree with the other reviews about the front desk staff, they are very unwelcoming. I won’t go back for this reason.

I have never had an issue with my hair here and I actually go out of my way to go to Vanis when I’m in town. The issue is the front desk staff who has worked there quite a long time and act as if they are in a posh salon in the SoHo district of NYC. They are rude and each time I go my salon experience is marred by their attitude– both the older blonde woman who has been there for years and the younger man with glasses in addition to the others. Who wants to loathe the entry and exit from a business? The art work has been driving me and just about every other person who works there nuts for years. It’s right across from the sinks and is horribly ugly. It doesn’t go with the vibe of the salon and stresses me out every time I go there. Regardless of who painted it it’s WAY past time to take it down. I’ve had a mani/pedi there once and never went back for the service again. It was awful. I also HIGHLY dislike that you can’t tip on the credit card. Because I don’t live in town and travel around the country I normally don’t carry cash as my bank isn’t always conveniently located. I’ve given my business to this place on and off for 12 years but at this point I’m so annoyed over the cash requirement for tipping that I will not be back. I’m only 31– so that’s a good 20 – 30 years of business down the drain on their part because the owner is too frugal to allow tipping on a card. Next time I am in town I will go out of my way to find a new location. From what I hear there is a lot more competition in the town now and I’m sure I’ll find another salon to give my business to.

Got probably the best haircut I have ever had for a reasonable price.

I’m all about second chances, so with this in mind I decided to call Vanis this week to schedule an appointment to get my hair colored. My last experience with this salon was with a haircut and since I’m trying to grow my hair out I thought«what could really go wrong with a single process color, dark brown.» So I called Vanis to schedule the appointment. This place absolutely blows my mind. Over a year later and they still have ridiculously rude staff taking the calls. I wanted a color and the woman asked if I wanted my hair blowdryed or if I wanted to just leave with my hair wet. It’s an extra charge for my hair to be blowdryed AND I had to meet with a different stylist. Are you kidding me??? Does the stylist not want to check his/her work? How am I supposed to know if the color is right when it’s wet??? This is insane to me. I’ve lived in Boston, Connecticut, New York, and have paid $ 200+ for color at top salons and never has the stylist said«you need to meet with another stylist now for a blowdry». Vanis, I tried giving you a second chance but you’ve made it perfectly clear that you are STILL a wanna-be high-end salon and spa that needs to think of the needs and wants of your customers. Just because you carry Aveda products doesn’t mean you’re worthy of the Aveda reputation. You need to hire more friendly staff to answer your phones. And when you offer hair color, offer a complimentary blowdry for pete’s sake.

I was very disappointed in my «spa» experience here. I went for a pedicure and it was pretty blah. The woman who did it started complaining about her back and how many more pedicures she had to do as I was getting settled in to my chair. She gossiped with the technician next to her the whole time and hardly spoke to me. It was way too fast and she did not even give me a foot massage… when I saw the price I was appalled at what I got for that price. Bottom line is just because you see AVEDA on the sign don’t expect high quality.
