For some time, I have had problems at the Walgreens checkout counter, where I am often asked to pay a higher price than the sale price being advertised, even after the checkout clerk has taken and applied my Walgreens rewards card. Although this has been true at multiple locations, it’s the Calumet location where I have had the most hassle getting the price corrected. I have had problems there with incorrect checkout pricing related to yellow sales stickers in the aisles, with pricing related to sales advertised in the Sunday paper, and with pricing related to senior day sales events. Often it has taken manager intervention to get the price corrected at the counter. The process has been time consuming and frustrating to me. I have complained to Walgreens clerks, to multiple managers, and have called the Walgreens corporate 800 number about this issue. It just seemed outrageous to me that this was continuing to happen. Then last fall I happened to see a link on the USA Today website to a news video by WCNC Charlotte about Walgreens. The news video reported that Walgreens was being investigated for overcharging and deceiving its customers and that it was being scrutinized for advertising one price on the shelf and then charging more at the register. This news video reported that the Missouri attorney general has found similar problems to what the station was reporting and that he was suing Walgreens.(The attorney general also appears and makes a statement during this news video.) After seeing this video I searched online and found a number of articles about the situation with Walgreens that had been reported. I now avoid shopping at Walgreens when possible(with the exception of their 24-hr pharmacy, which I still use occasionally and without running into pricing issues).

While I enjoy Walgreens as a whole, this location seems to give me problem after problem every time I visit. Whether it’s something as simple as their smartphone app freezing up every time I try to use it(which is limited because I cannot get service with Verizon in-store [?!]), to prices scanning differently than what is on the shelf, to the frequent utterly poor customer service I receive almost every time I’m there. I’ve received text alerts from this location telling me that my prescription was ready for pick-up, only to drive to the store and find out that they haven’t even begun processing it yet. At the pharmacy, it seems that stocking medications and chit-chatting take precedence over customers waiting in line; my worst experience was an over 25 — minute wait for a pickup, only because of the long line ahead of me. The front end checkout personnel give the impression that not only do they hate their jobs, but that you(the customer) are interrupting or inconveniencing them in some way. If the Walgreens on the other side of town was a 24-hour pharmacy location, I would easily consider going to that location every time to avoid the unnecessary hassles that I experience here. Until then, I unfortunately and unwillingly subject myself to poor service at my own expense. In summary, if you don’t need 24-hour pharmacy service, I highly recommend the Walgreens on the other side of town — or any other store for that matter — above this location.

Why in this day and age is there no Wi-Fi in this chain. Walgreen’s encourages you to utilize their mobile app and manage prescriptions online, But don’t provide Wi-Fi to use these applications. Also, although they are considered a «family pharmacy» their prices reflect that of a convenience store, and they will continue to charge at those margins because they attack market share of the corner locations. Just go to Target or Walmart.

I love this Walgreens…& all Walgreens. Lots of good deals, 24 hr. pharmacy, helpful staff. Awesome deals on holiday stuff. The pharmacy can get backed up, but I love the drive thru convenience even though. They’re good about communicating with your doctor & insurance company in a timely manner so that you can get your necessary prescriptions on time. They have a little bit of everything(from medicines-groceries-households) & it’s nice to have them open 24 hours.
