Don’t ever expect them to come out and pick up and wild dogs you have roaming around. «It’s not an emergency unless the dog has killed someone». Seriously horrible response from a customer service representative from the shelter. Why go to work when you hate your job? If anyone reads this you need to hire more people to pick up dogs and link up with the court for more non violent volunteers or community service to help you with your budget issues. Not the public a issue that your understaff and your the only shelter around. If you choose not to expand or open up another shelter near by atleast hire people who are courteous and actually want to help the person who is paying tax dollars to keep this place open.

Horrible unethical and just plain rude customer service these ppl are just trying to ripp ppl off if you don’t find out information on your own they will ripp you of… short man with glasses is the worst he is rude and is a miserable short little man that hates his job and takes it out in ppl they charge so much just for redemption of you’re pet and if your pet is not vaccinated they will charge you for that or neutered that’s another fee and microchipped another fee all in total about $ 500 I now understand why ppl do not redeemed they’re pets good luck dealing with these ppl

The employees at this shelter are for the most part doing right by the job they are there to do. This is the first shelter I went to to look for my missing seven year old male Australian Cattle Dog. Unfortunately he is still missing. I have a twelve year old female mixed boxer who is still looking for her buddy. One could say the lost dog was her service dog. He would fetch her when we called because she has very little hearing left. She was eating well because he was eating. He groomed her eyes ears etc. they were always together. On December 31^st a friend said she saw a dog very much like mine at the East Valley Animal. I immediately went online but could not find the image of him so I went down to the shelter to check it out and found an Australian Cattle Dog about a year and a half old. I made inquires as to how do I adopt this dog. A volunteer informed me to check the date. I read he would be available on the 6^th of January. She said make sure you come in early we open at 8am. If someone else wants the dog it will be auctioned to the highest bidder. We got there on January 6 at 7:45am a woman and her daughter were ahead of us, but they were there for the bird a cockatoo I believe. The customer service windows were closed so everyone lined up next to the front desk. We were the first ones being helped. The young man located the dog with the ID number I provided A1604207. He said the dog is being processed but went to check out the cage. I followed no dog! He checked the customer service window which was now open and told me it was too late to auction because the paper work was already processed. I asked how could this happen? He said we have two doors and he must have come in through the other door. I was devastated. It could not be possible to release the dog and file the paper work in such a short amount of time. As we drove home we try to figure out what had taken place. There was some kind of impropriety that took place. The thing is if it happened to me it must be happening to other people who will never return to adopt these poor animals. That is how I immediately felt. I got home after a few errands and called the shelter to get some answers. Could not get through after three tries. But I still want to reach someone.

After not getting through to anyone at the East Valley Animal Shelter l called the general manager located in down town LA. Some one answering told me Ms. Barnette was unavailable and she would relay the message. A few hours later Tori from East Valley Animal Shelter called and told me that nothing went wrong with the system that is set up for adoptions. The person who got the animal paid for it at 8:05AM. The problem was that I was the first person in line does not matter because they do not want to know if someone else wants to adopt the same animal it was a done deal before anyone else could even start the process! And now on this Unilocal site I see a tip on how to get the dog you want before anyone else. (Here’s the trick: 1. Go to the shelter in which the animal you are interested in is located at 2. Ask for a copy of their kennel card (make sure to give them the animal ID) 3. if you look under «Find a lost pet» you can easily find unadoptable puppies and kittens. If you identify a fur baby you are interested and call the shelter and give them the animal ID number (the numbers following the letter A) you can ask about their availability date. Some puppies go very fast and if there is more than one party interested they do a silent auction. A shelter volunteer told me the trick to adopting a puppy before it gives the chance for a silent auction. Here’s the trick: 1. I had my eye on a stray German Shepherd/​Labrador Retriever mix puppy. For about a week I kept checking to see if she was available and the morning of November 19^th she went from «Find a lost pet» to «adoptable pet search» When I officially got up for the day, I called to confirm her availability and that she was still there. After all was confirmed my uncle drove me to go visit and adopt her.
The parking lot wasn’t full and was easy to find parking (noon on a Thursday) and we went in and I immediately noticed the large and new renovated cat room. The interior of the sheltor is very nice and open concept. They have snack and drink machines.
But anyways, we asked to see about the puppy. Gave them her animal ID. At first the lady at the front desk said she wasn’t available yet. I explained to her and said we called about a half hour ago and confirmed she was available as of this morning. I think she made a typo in the animal id but I did get to visit her just before she was going to get spayed. A volunteer (an older lean woman) retrieved the puppy and let us visit in their «play yard».
The adoption process was VERY easy and took no more than 10 minutes. Each worker we encountered was joyful and helpful. I plan on adopting from this shelter again. When you adopt a pet they give you a gift bag suited to your animal type. (I got a voucher for a free collar and ID from Foster and Smiths only have to pay for shipping, a puppy toy, such of wet dog food, coupons for Pedigree dog food)
The following day I was told I would get a call to pick her up from getting spayed. I wanted to beat rush hour because I was going home to Orange County. So I tried calling the shelter, but it always goes to an automatic voice machine and could never reach an actual person that I could talk to. After several failed attempts I got a hold of a real person, but they said I had to call the clinic. The clinic is to your left as you walk to the shelter’s entrance. (I had no idea it was there until my GPS took me back to the shelter). I tried calling the clinic, but the lady seemed like she didn’t speak a lick of english and in no way answered my question. I was bothering because I just wanted an update on my puppy. So I drove down to the shelter and went to the clinic (parking was more crowded but I didn’t have to fight it was propably about 2 or 2:30pm) I walked in the clinic with my two other dogs and the lady at the front desk (larger built, short hair, but very nice and knowledgeable) informed me she would be ready between 4 and 4:30). I didn’t want to drive back to Downtown LA to I went to a local dog park a few miles away to pass time.
At about 4 I made my way back to the shelter and had to fight for parking. There was this white crossover just sitting there, and in the way of exiting cars, and was;t moving to go park. So I tried to go park to the only open space and she honked and screamed. Then behind me a space became open but the car behind me took it. However that driver was very considerate and asked if I wanted it and I thanked him and went on my way. Picking up was easy and took a few minutes once I got out of the car. Everyone from customers and workers were friendly in the clinic. The younger nurse as well as the lady at the front desk made me inform of all I needed to know about her recovery.
I can not thank this shelter enough for giving me such a healthy and thriving puppy to add toy home.
Would have given 5 stars IF the parking situation was larger and better organized.

This place is disgusting and disappointing. I wanted to adopt a dog. I went online and found that they had two white German shepherds. When I went in the woman standing behind the desk didn’t want to help me and said she was waiting for a different customer. A man did offer to help me. Unfortunately he barely opened his mouth when he spoke so it was hard to understand what he was saying without crouching down to desk level. I only knew the number of one of the German Shepherds and he refused to look online to help me. The others stood around and chomped on their potato chips and didn’t offer to help. There were 6 people behind the desk and I was the only customer! I really want to provide a dog with a good home so I have to go back but really wish I didn’t.

The EVAS has great people working there, it can’t be an easy job. However, upon my recent visit, was far more difficult than it had to be in getting both of my doggies licensed. On Andi Pandi, her shot verification and spade info was present and available, and given to the animal shelter woman whom must have been having the worst day ever as she passed her poor attitude down to me until my friend stepped in and assisted me. Having adopted both pets from the no kill Agoura Hills Animal Shelter, their information was available through their office. When I couldn’t provide proof that Lacey P. was spade upon adoption, I asked the rude animal shelter whom was in plain clothes (so I don’t believe she was an officer), if I may call the Agoura Hills Animal Shelter and ask if they would fax proof that Lacey was indeed spade prior to adopting, only that I misplaced the paperwork, so if I would be given a fax number they would fax them providing the necessary documents so that I may take care of both licenses. She was very rude in telling me no, it cannot be done and that I would have to drive back to Agoura Hills Animal Shelter, obtain paperwork, then drive back to the East Valley Animal Shelter with proof as I only had proof of their updated shots (which was an ordeal in itself as I don’t like needles and the thought of putting my Andi Pandi through an ouchie actually made me tear up). The employee ID of this person is PID 1 372 629, but I will refer to her as the wicked witch of East Valley as her hair was long, stringy, and blk and white and with a nasty attitude to match. I’d refer to her by name but she did not have a name tag displayed on her otherwise frumpy attire. She refused to give me a fax number so that the info can be faxed. As I was exhausted, I didn’t ask for a supervisor and surmised that I would have to make a grueling trip back to Agoura Hills then back to North Hollywood as this surely sounded more about control than policy-​I obtained the one license for Andi Pandi and not for Lacey until my friend stepped in whom already called Agoura Hills Animal Shelter, whom already had her info ready to fax if the wicked witch of east animal shelter, and the God’s must have opened that clammed up heart because she gave us a number and seconds later she received het proof that Lacey had been spade prior to adoption and I already had her proof of shots and I was given the dog license. You see, it isn’t difficult being nice and helpful, and having some sense of pride in your chosen occupation. Whatever is going on in your personal life should not be passed onto the customers. Is it too much to ask that someone take pride in their appearance and customer service-​and smile? Other than her the other staffers appeared to be great, even when dealing with a difficult person whom had obvious mental disorders, their conduct was professional. I am grateful that my friend stepped in and didn’t take this woman’s «we can’t help you!» attitude and actually urged her to do so by having the Agoura Hills Animal Shelter on the other line with the, «We Can Help!» attitude, making her look very bad and a negative representative of East Valley Animal Care Shelter. Andi Pandi showed off her tricks making everyone break into laughter. All in all-​everything turned out positive with great effort and thanks to my friend.

Came here to register my dog and the line was so freaking long. The lady was having a long convo with someone who was already done with his business. She was great and sweet, don’t get me wrong, but i wanted to be in and out.

Have you been to Baldwin Park shelter? That is one of the worst shelters in the L.A. area.
Baldwin Park shelter is a high kill-​rate shelter that is always at it’s full 250 animal capacity, so rescuing an animal is to save it from a death camp fate. Please check if you can, or driving by the area. There are a lot of chihuahuas and pitbulls.

Customer service could of been better. We were turning in a puppy that got attacked. Monday’s are closed but they do have a 24-​service. We rang the door bell 3 times but no one would buzz us in, not sure if it was even working. There was about 8 people just hanging around that could of helped but no we had to wait about 10 min. For a family to leave in order for us to get our foot in the door.

This was one of the nicest shelters I visited in the LA area. The staff I met was helpful and they genuinely cared about the dogs. One of the guys introduced me to «Ace» and took time to let me play with him, go through his chart, and give me as much information on him as possible. My experience was very positive. Adopt don’t shop!
Update– I’ve had Ace for 2 years now, and he is healthy, friendly and a great dog! Shelter dogs take a lot of extra work (my guy had bad separation anxiety) but it is worth the time and energy. The information from the shelter was transparent and correct and put us on a good path!

Very disappointed… I took 3 kittens in because I was I was advised they’d be cared for, try to adopt out and most importantly not killed.
When we arrived and said we had kittens to leave with them, a very cold woman said «we’re just going to euthanize them when you leave»
I told her that that’s not what I was advised and she became very snarky. She barked their procedures at me and kept saying that I probably misunderstood what the person on the phone told me and must’ve not given them details at all. I told her I was very specific and had a very long conversation with someone who said the only way they would kill the kittens was if they were very sick.
I ended up talking to someone else (which is the only reason I even gave this place 2 stars) He was very informative, but Brita was still sitting in the back, mumbling stuff about us and eventually yelling out «Fu@k these idiots»
Like I told the man who ended up talking to us… I was already upset. I walked into this place crying, needing help and was greated by a cold, blunt woman, with no beside manner.
Needless to say, I did not leave the kittens there.
Go adopt from this shelter and rescue the helpless animals from Brita!

Can someone please help me. It’s a long story but I just want to see my dog again. She was at the east valley shelter about 4 years ago. I know it’s a long time but I just want to see her again. She’s a cocker spaniel chihuahua and the shelter renamed her Crystal. Her name is Daisy and I really miss her. Any help is appreciated. :(

Well I just visited this place today where I adopted a sweet little boy puppy and I get to pick him up tomorrow and bring him home! The reason I’m only giving four stars is because the parking sucks very small lot I had to park down the street and walk. Also because once I was ready to adopt I had to wait like 30 minutes in line. Besides those two bumps in the road I think this is a really good shelter. The staff was very sweet and I could tell they really cared about the animals and tried there best to keep the animals happy while in there. The dogs cages were pretty big and it was cool because in the back there was a little room so they can have some shade. If your wanting to adopt definitely check this place out!

The parking lot is very small and hard to find parking. But the facility was big and pretty nice. It took me a while to make it all the way around to see all the animals. I wish I could take them all home but unfortunately I can’t. The cages for the dogs were nice and roomy they had a little room in the back where they can go in away from the heat and take a nap. All the little rooms looked like they had some sort of bed for the dogs which was good. The workers were friendly I notified a lady about a dog who’s ear was being bit by flies and she said she will go take a look at them. My co worker was here to look at the bunnies which were in a little room, we were able to see and pet the bunnies in their cages. She ended up adopting one of the baby female bunnies; adoption is the way to go.

I love the staff everyone is awesome and so helpful.
back in 2003 I lost my pit bull :(So in 05 I decided it was time to adopt a dog
I went in and honestly I didn’t have a connection with any I was so sad, I was starting to think I would leave home without a. Then the lady who was helping me took me back to some inside kennels and showed me the cutest black and white puppy!!! I instantly fell in love! He was already fixed so i was able to take him home right away. He was a 9 month old pit bull/​Alaskan malamute mix We named him Jack
Jack is now 10 years old and living a healthy fun loving life!

1÷11÷2015 — I am VERY disappointed with East Valley Animal Services — very low response time and no follow up to my 2:15 pm call about a wet, shivering dog tied up outside Starbucks in Noho Arts District (Lankershim & Magnolia Blvds). There was no water for the dog, she had an open sore the size of a quarter on her coat, and she was shivering as she sat on cold, wet cement. A bystander told me she’d been outside «for awhile.» When I went inside the Starbucks and identified the owner, who didn’t care his dog was cold and shivering and had no idea how long she’d been outside and dismissed my suggestion that she need to be warmed up and brought inside– «She’s all right.» he said as he sat down with cosy hoodie/​sweat jacket.
I then called East Valley Animal Control around 2:15 pm and they said they’d check it out. When I called back at 3:40 p.m. I was informed they hadn’t gone out yet and it would be 3 – 4 hours before they got there. The excuse given was that there were several calls of dogs who had gotten out in the rain and hit by cars.
I was not informed of this situation when I first called it in, and I really wonder if that was the case @ 2:15 pm and since it’s less than 20 minutes from Van Nuys to North Hollywood via the 170, I have to question why the call wasn’t answered at that time.
This is unacceptable and I really am disappointed in the so called «Animal ‘Care’ & Control — East Valley Animal Services dept.
I’m sure they’ll budget cuts and overworked staff, but the bottom line is, an animal who unable to speak for herself was suffering. I’m going out now to check and am not impressed with the last of response time.
Therefore, I ‘m giving 1 star, but really they deserve a BIG FAT ZERO.

This is such a nice facility with such a great staff, that I almost forgot that I was surrounded by Los Angeles county.
I cannot in good conscience, give them less than a 5 start review, because of the good work that they’re doing. Giving them less than five stars might mean that a good animal could be killed, that could have found a home.
The staff and volunteers seemed to genuinely care about the animals. That means everything to me. The play areas were a decent size, given the compact nature of any building in that area. My only problem is the layout of the kennels. They were laid out like a labyrinth. It is very easy to skip over some areas if you’re like me and try to mentally formulate simple paths, when walking. I felt like the bad layout could cost a couple lives.
Even with the bad layout, we found who we were looking for. I hate to say it, but if you are looking for a «deal», this would be the place to go. Our dog was about $ 65 dollars to adopt. It sucks knowing that the price tag on Max’s life was that little, but if cheap adoption fees get these animals in some loving homes, then so be it.
Max has been a great dog so far. He came to us trained, chipped, vaccinated, playful, gentle, socialized, and great off of his leash. We couldn’t really ask for anything more.

Awesome first «pound» experience! Our Biewer Terrier went missing Friday at around 6 pm. He was recovered by an anonymous Los Angelino by 8 pm. Faith in humanity is restored!
This particular animal shelter is very clean, and the staff is so helpful/​friendly. I’m amazed the website was updated with his picture just hours after he was recovered. I can’t believe the efficiency, considering this is a government-​funded agency. That said, I hope I never have to come back!
