One of the only fly fishing shops in southern california. Have gone there on several occassions for this same reason. My last experience with them was very disappointing. Went in with my young daughter to purchase some items. They were prepping for thier annual tent event which was going to take place the next day. They informed us that there were going to be raffles, BBQs, speakers, and kid events. They especially convinced my daughter that she should return because there was going to be kid fly fishing clinics for her. My young daughter was so excited about the clinic that she had us drive back the next day to fishermans spot after her baseball game from L.A. to Van Nuys and skip some other plans we had previously planned for the day. When we got there we purchased some food and raffle tickets but did not see any kid activities whatsoever. When i confronted owners about the kid fly fishing clinics they had promised the day before, they indicated that there was a change of plans. When I explained to them that the only reason we came back was for that, they both dismissed us and walked away. I was very dissappointed that after spending the amount of money i have in thier store and spending over 100 dollars more on that particular day on thier fundraising activities, they did not have the decency to apologize to my young daughter. At that point I felt that it was just about the sale. They utilized my daughter by making false promises to her so that daddy can come back and drop some more dough. By the way, when asked about the drawing for thier raffle. They indicated that it was probably going to take place on Monday and that they didnt know when. This tells me that it is not done in public. How do you know that they dont pick the winners based on a buddy system?

One of only 2 ‘legitimate’ fly shops in all of SoCal. They have a nice variety of product and companies represented. But the real value here are the folks behind the counter. You’re not getting some kid helping you who is on loan to the fly shop(think Bass Pro) and is speaking out his a – . At FS, you’re getting guys with a lifelong passion and commitment to the fly. They know what they’re speaking about, and are genuinely interested in helping you make a sound purchase. Take the time to support this brick and mortar store.

They can help you get into the sport of fly-fishing or fly tying. This shop has it all and what they don’t have on hand they can order. For our local shop we’ve hit the jack pot. From specialty events, organized trips and advice you can’t go wrong. They have a board by the door that will give you river reports, specialty stock rods, bags and clothing. GIFTS!!! Perfect for holiday selection… if you call me I’ll tell you what I want. One other thing. They completely support the growing community of women fly fishers. you won’t get snubbed here.

For a suburban fly fishing shop far from the classic«rivers» of lore, it’s ideal for us locals. The staff have always been just the best with information and help, the events they have thrown have been fun and well aimed at their clientèle. Now I am chief amongst the offenders of shopping online but, I do save some of my purchases for them. I would hate to see them go away. If you’re interested in the sport, start here.

Good selection, especially for tying materials and tools. They also have used, vintage rods and reels, including cane and some upper end stuff. Since I no longer live in the area I stop by once a year to browse, usually buying a few piddly items. Even though I don’t spend a fortune I have always found the staff to be friendly and willing to give advice about where to fish, etc.

Fishermen’s Spot had everything you need for your fly-fishing addiction. The staff was very helpful and the prices are reasonable. Mostly freshwater fishing flies and equipment however they did have a nice selection for salt water fishing as well.

Yes! We have an authentic flyfishing shop in Van Nuys! I consider myself so fortunate to be able to go to the Fisherman’s Spot for gear and advice. It is loaded with whatever you need and the folks who work there are super friendly. Get yourself a Curtis Creek Manifesto illustrated book on how to flyfish if you never have and head on out to the F Spot to buy equipment to get started! What are you waiting for. They will give you advice on where to fish and ideas for great trips for the family.

My first experience with the«spot» was a beginners fly fishing class taught by Dennis T., probably the best $ 100 I spent. The class was great and I gained all the base knowledge needed to get started. Fly fishing can be a little intimidating there are so many aspects to learn! Every time I have gone into the shop Dean and Ken have been helpful. They truly want to help you get out there and have fun. Thanks for always making me feel welcome! If your new to the sport and want to learn from some genuinely nice folks check them out!

Good selection of flies and supplies for fly tying. I went to the store to look around and service was great and very knowledgeable. bought 2 items i needed and saw that they had top gear gear all around. If you leave in Los Angeles County you really don’t need to go to other stores to get your supplies. Stop by and pick up your supplies here and if they don’t have it they can order it for you. I do admit like most specialty fly shops it is a little pricey but well worth the cost. Remember you get what you pay for. All the items were good quality and well know stuff.
