This restaurant was renamed Phở Van Nuys. Best Vietnamese restaurant without going too far into the valley and with a good selection of food besides phở. I’m saying this as a Vietnamese person who’s food cravings leave me wanting on the westside for any authenice VN.

FIRSTTHINGSFIRST: CASHONLY(a tip from a previous Unilocaler) After a long day at work I decided to ask a friend to meet up with me to fulfill this craving of phở. Being in the SFV I knew that a shop that sells phở would be a difficult task.(even at that a good one) The Unilocal!community once again did its deed by recommending a phở place that was not PHO999. I read some reviews(mostly the low rating ones) and decided that Hong Phat was going to be the choice. Getting to my destination I notice that it is located in a place that I grew up in. Being that every shop was very familiar I was totally shocked to see that this Phở place was in an area populated by Hispanics.(not racist, just seemed odd) After meeting up with my friend, we hop into the restaurant. The place was super dead around 7pm. The menu behind the counter is a typical asian spot that displays multiple pictures of their dishes followed with a number to represent each dish. I read in multiple reviews that the #1 phở bowl was the best so that was an easy decision. The waitress was a nice lady that seemed to not speak much English. She took our orders but I felt convinced that our orders would come out wrong. 2 #1’s and 2 orders of spring rolls were coming right up!(between the both of us) Phở and spring rolls do not take much time so the orders were fulfilled in the quickness. The broth was very subtle with a slight tang after taste that is very significant. The size of the bowl was perfect for a single person to enjoy and snack on an additional something. The phở was served with the typical mint leaves, bean sprouts, lime, and peppers. Hoisin sauce and sriracha were also a complement to the table. The spring rolls were fairly decent. I find myself buying these things and noticing they are not wrapped tight enough. It is either it is not tight or it is lacking the maximum stuffing. I can’t say too much for the spring rolls but they were good enough for me to eat, even with the bean sprouts inside.(for those that know me, I dislike bean sprouts) Overall Hong Phat needs to take better care of their customers with a friendly smile and more frequent check ups on their only two starving customers at their establishment. After bugging a lady for more spring rolls, I realized this is the true to its roots phở place CAUSETHEIRCOOKSDON’T SPEAKENGLISH(not referring to Hispanics) I would definitely come back, especially knowing the quality, wholesomeness, and availability of the phở in SFV.

Best phở in town. So is all the other Vietnamese dishes such as banh xeo Vietnamese crêpe. And the price is super cheap.

Excellent deals, fast, friendly service, authentic food. What more could you ask for in a Vietnamese restaurant?

Went in on a Tuesday around 6PM. Completely empty inside except for me and my friend. Super delicious phở, ordered the #1. What stood out was how nice the staff were. Parking is convenient. CASHONLY.

All-in-all, pretty tasty. In fact, it was some of the tastiest phở I have had… and I have had A LOT of phở in my time. The proprietor is really nice and friendly, and was cool with what we requested. Nice Viet drink selection. The only bummer about this place is that the portions are a little smaller than most Phở places I have been to. Worth a drop in. Pretty yummy.

A pretty good place to get some traditional Vietnamese food if you’re in the area. Had their vermicelli with grilled pork and shrimp. Meals run about $ 6 a dish. Easy parking. Comparable to Phở So 1, which is nearby but a lot busier. I certainly would come back to try their other dishes.

By far the best phở in the area, and possibly the best I’ve had! Phở-king amazing and very inexpensive: we each had vegi/tofu phở and an order of spring rolls, and a boba tea, and the total for all of that was $ 23.

Hong Phat makes delicious, truly authentic phở. The broth is packed with complex nuanced flavors and the noodles are of a perfect texture. I didn’t find the phở too salty at all; just right. The Thai basil and bean sprouts were very fresh. And the people who work there are very kind and make you feel at home. A wonderful hidden gem for phở and the price is just right!

Came here b/c my usual Absolutely Phobulous was closed on Sunday. Had their veggie phở which is pretty similar(but smaller) to the veggie phở at Absolutely Phobulous. Their veggie spring roll is good too! But don’t be freaked out, the mock-pork is really mock, I freaked out thinking it was real.

Never had Vietnamese food before, walked into this place on a whim(my kids were getting haircuts next door at Lovely Nails) Asked the young man behind the counter to suggest a dish for a Viet newbie & he pointed to a man sitting behind me slurping a huge bowl of noodles with meat & broth. I saw the little accompanying dish of fresh vegetable condiments & told him to send one out for me… what a good choice! The broth was made with beef stock & mint & contained sliced fresh jalapenos, sprouts and large strips of beef(amongst other crunchy veggies, see the pic I posted) I added a lil fish sauce, Hoisin & chili sauce and dug in… I’m a big dude(6’3″ 350+) & by the time I was ¾ done with this bowl I was already stuffed(not an easy feat to accomplish) I finished the bowl by lifting it up & drinking all the flavorful broth down till the bowl was bone dry. I stood up, left my tip & walked out of there extremely content. Best 6 bucks I ever spent…

** disclaimer — please excuse my bootleg viet/english translations of traditional viet dishes — in high school when I enrolled in Vietnamese school they put me in the«second grade», I failed, and have never really looked back — my apologies! ** This restaurant provides good home-style Viet cookin. They have a gigantor menu(lots of pictures!) that encompasses different types of noodles(bun, phở, hu tieu), sauteed veggies/proteins in various styles, charbroiled meats, rice dishes, soups, and appetizers. They have a large menu page dedicated to vegetarian dishes, and a great selection of drinks. I often drop in for a quick lunch, and my favorites have come to be their shrimp and crab soup with gelatinous noodles(banh canh tom cua), sauteed shrimp with veggies(tom xao thap cam), and clear noodle soup(hu tieu). The soups are a little MSG-heavy but very delicious. They make a good café sua da(iced coffee with condensed milk). THEYARECLOSEDONMONDAYS! And only accept cash. Each dish will set you back about 7 – 10 bucks. And the people who work here are SUPA nice. If you go here you will surely want to come back for more.
