We have been taking our boys here for 12 years and STILL make the drive from OC just because they are so awesome!

I’ve been going to this barber shop since the current owner got there. From the customer service to the actual haircut, the quality is commendable. When you get there, you are greeted with a petite yogurt drink. The waiting area is comfortable. The barber is skilled in his craft. I also enjoy getting my hair washed at the end of the haircut. The price is reasonable accompanied with friendly services, makes it a premium value for your haircut.

I have now been going to this shop for about 8 months. First took my son for a nice close and tight cut and saw that the guy(mr. Bong) was VERY good with fades. I tried him reluctantly at first since I usually had frequented beauty salons that were fairly reputable always with mixed results. I told Mr Bong the challenges with the hair cut I normally get and he simply smiled and commenced the trimming. Alas! After two weeks my hair did NOT look awful and was growing nicely! This man has been at this for 40 years, having started as a young man sweeping the floors and getting the shave water at the right temp back in Korea. It is a one man operation but I never had to wait more than 30 minutes. They do take reservations and stay close to it for those with time crunch. LOVE this place!

I have had my haircut in greater Los Angeles all the way from 1957 to the finest salons the City has to offer in 2013. I have paid(my parents actually paid) as little as $ 1.00 for a haircut in 1957 to as much as $ 75 for a shampoo, cut, and blow dry in 2010. Two years ago my wife, who is Korean, suggested I try the barber shop located on the 2nd floor of the Korean grocery store(Greenland Market) complex located at the corner of White Oak and Sherman Way(17607 Sherman Way) in Van Nuys. She wanted to do some shopping and I needed a haircut. I did just as she suggested and as a result I’ve never been anywhere else since to cut my hair. By the time I had been the recipient of a shampoo, head massage, haircut, eyebrow and goatee trim I was lost in haircut heaven and every bit of bodily tension had been all but dissolved. I was thoroughly impressed with the service beyond description and shocked by how little the cost was in return for what I had just been provided. Unbelievable but true… far more than my money’s worth. The barber(Mr. Kim) is an artist with the scissor cut; the result is precisely what I asked for every time since that first time. It matters not whether I want it cut a bit shorter or a bit longer. He’s always on the mark. His assistant, who is actually his wife, handles all the precision trim and clean-up around the edges. She also administers to the shampoo and rinse. There’s no rush with the cut unless you say you’re in a hurry. At Hwang Kum getting a haircut is like getting a full body massage. Once you go there you’ll never go anywhere else. Trust me. The cost for all this…$ 17. Students get a 20% discount. Walk-ins are accepted with a smile, a warm greeting, and a small cold yogurt drink. The shop is open every day but Wednesday. If you are a fan of Korean or Japanese cuisine, there are a number of great restaurants right there in the center.
