This place knows little about the kebabs or customer service. I got the lamb kebab and the meat was uncooked and veggies were burned into ashes. Very disappointed. The restroom is located in the back of the kitchen, so I was able to see that as well. Quite dirty((the rice was also very dry and old. Take your business somewhere else

Horrible nasty food. Very bland and no flavor at all. Rice was bland. Kebabs bland. Everything was horrible. Never again!

I’m a huge fan of this place! I have a menu at home just in case I want to get delivery. I never do, but the owner always stays open late when I come in and order 5 minutes to close. He never says no! He is the sweetest man ever! I love their kabob plates and hummus with Pita. Me boyfriend and I come here a lot and the cook sometimes adds new flavors to our meal which we always enjoy! I read some of the poor reviews and I really wish those people had better experiences because I highly recommend this place! Good food great service! Always open for a late dinner!

Just was in the mood for kebab and this place happened to be close… It may not look like much from the outside, but when I took the first bite, I had to write a review. Juicy and tender beef kabob, generous amounts, very tasty and well prepared. I will definitely go back soon… What a nice surprise.

The most amazing food on the planet. The man who cooks the food is the same one who owns the whole place. He’s very attentive and friendly. I had to say the hummus he has is very impressive it was hard to keep my hands off of it and the kebabs where perfectly cooked. Definitely a great place to go to for dinner. Some people on here are rating it poor which I don’t understand because I had no problem. Obviously some people are just vindictive.

It was really difficult to place my order, because the guy running the place when I went in talked as if he doesn’t have a tongue in his mouth. I’ve lived in five different countries around the world and have done a ton of traveling and speak several languages myself, and I can understand almost ANYBODY. I’m not kidding, this guy just couldn’t enunciate ATALL. I wanted to walk out, because I had no idea what I had ordered… and I wish I had, because the food was TERRIBLE. I did get what I ordered, *AFTERTHIRTYMINUTESOFWAITING*, which was a chicken kebab plate with half rice, half salad, and a small container of hummus, and a side order of falafel – apparently, he understood me – but it was DISGUSTING. Everything on my plate was just so gross! And I’m like a goat! I am not a picky eater at all! I’m the friend that finishes off everybody else’s food! The chicken was dry; the rice was dry and tasteless; the salad was a pile of iceberg lettuce with a piece of tomato or two; the hummus was absolutely bland; and the falafel… oh, my favorite thing… falafel… :(It tasted like DIRT. I threw away all $ 22(yes, it was EXPENSIVE too) of my food in the trash. And I never do that. Again, I’m not a picky eater! So sad. $ 22 down the toilet. It was that bad.

Kebabs were ok, nothing special. Not the best chose for kebabs in this area. That was our 2nd order from the same place and last.

Went there for lunch. Found hair in my lunch plate when she brought it out. Pointed this out and the server just took the hair out in front of me and flicked it on the floor with a expected look like«you should still eat it.» When requested for a new plate of food, she took it back and returned with what was obviously the same plate of food that had the hair on it(you can’t make all that in 2 minutes). Nevertheless, I still ate it b/c I was starving and had to go back to the office. Later, when I went to pay with my colleague, they charged $ 1.00 for credit card transaction — which is a bit unreasonable. Even when we pointed out the hair aggression, they weren’t too apologetic about it. The only saving grace was that the actual food was somewhat decent(albeit the hair incident). Probably wouldn’t revisit this place again.

Delicious! Little homey store cranking out bomb food. Not the best, dine in wise(just for looks) but service is genuine. Eat here!

Called 2 hours before close and was told that everyone went home and no more delivery!!! If I wanted to wait two hours someone would bring my order on their way home. Not exactly the best way to run a business!

AMAZINGFOOD!!! Excellent!!! Some of the best Middle Eastern food I have had in Los Angeles. The prices are affordable… way below any prices at any Indian restaurant I have seen! You can get a combo kebab plate with saffron rice for $ 10($ 8.50 on Mondays and Wednesdays). And they give you free pita bread, humus, and some type of cilantro topping. The food is very flavorful and the portion size is very filling(unlike most Indian restaurants that give you scrapes for twice the price). The owner is Mexican(go figure), but he has mastered Middle Eastern food more than Middle Easterners! The owner is also super nice! This place is NOT chintzy and they really care about their customers. Usually the place is not even crowded… I guess word has not gotten out enough. YOUMUSTCHECKTHISPLACEOUT!!!

Right in the middle of Van Nuys sits this restaurant owned by a Hispanic man who used to be a chef for a Persian restaurant for many years. The interior may use a bit of renovating but the food is great and plentiful and the service is great. I think it is the only place that offers this type of food for miles. If you want a taco, you can always walk 10 steps in any direction. but for great persian food for an affordable price with huge portions, this is the place.

I went to this store to get food to go. I ordered kashk e badejami and tadig. I love middle eastern food and have eaten in for 15 years. I really wanted to like this food! I went into the store. When I ordered the food to go, I asked if they had Tadig. Tadig is a crispy crust of rice that takes a few hours to make. He said yes. He gave me he food. I went to work and began eating the food. There was nothing crispy or crunchy about the tadig. I called him and he thought I did not know what tadig was… I took the tadig back and he offered to give me my money in a nice way. There was no apology. No awareness that I might still be hungry! He did not offer me anything! He told me that he had been making tadig for 40 years and he does not know why my tadig was not crispy but that there must have been too much water.(The crispy layer is usually brittle The kashk e badejami had had cinnamon on it which was different but it was ok. I assume that this recipe must be from a different area of Iran than I am familiar with. On the way out I said, «I’m sorry to have inconvenienced you.» I have never given a business a one rating. I am lowering the rating from a 5 to a 3 because the tadig was not tadig, it was oil laden rice that was glommed together. I deducted two points for the lack of customer service. No apology. No offer of anything. No sense of awareness that I was inconvenienced by driving the food back. No sense of awarness tha tI might be hungry! The reviews on this place are good so my experience must have been a fluke.

On Wednesday, the chicken and beef kebob special is a $ 1.50 off.( ) I’m not a frequent eater of this type of food but this dish wasn’t complex and was still tasty. Ground beef and ground chicken on a stick with some white rice… can’t get any simpler than that! They also have Jarritos Mandarin Orange soda chillin’ in the fridge, and I can never pass that up when I see it. One old man runs the show here and I love seeing mom & pop shops sticking to their roots. You might have to ring the cashier bell to get service though.

I implore my fellow Unilocalers to go in and give Paraiso a try. I’ve tried a number of things and all of them have been excellent. The surprise favorite has been the cornish game hen kebab. The gentlemen that runs it cuts it into eight pieces and its marinated in something that is makes it utterly amazing. The othe meats have been awesome as well. The entrees he makes come with a giant pile of basmati rice that is wonderfully flavored and seasoned. He also gives you a grilled tomato and a green chile. We’ve gotten take out and he’s also given us a seasoning(the name of which is escaping me at the moment), but it is great on the rice. The yogurt & cucumber dip, hummus, grape leaves and eggplant dip are excellent accompaniments if you are REALLY hungry or you want to set aside some for left overs. The kebabs are made to order and have always been moist and tender and really tasty. Honestly, if you are in the Van Nuys area, I suggest you try this place first. If you’ve been to other places, give this place a try. I’d almost be willing to bet you’d like Paraiso at least as well and their prices are really competitive.

The hubby and I have been back several more times and every single thing we have had is delicious. We have tried the cornish game hen kebab — excellent. The chicken thigh and ground beef combo is my new favorite. So flavorful. The hummus is also amazing. The place doesn’t look like much — but the food is truly amazing.

Very generous portions. Honestly, each kebab plate is a lot of food(includes rice, grilled pepper, grilled tomato and pita bread). My favorite dish is the fish kebab. I’ve also had the yogurt/cucumber dip. Very tasty. The beef and chicken kebabs are good, too, but one order was a bit too salty. Staff is friendly and upbeat, which is difficult to find these days. Great service; great experience.
