Chuck’s Produce

Terrible customer service. I can remember multiple occasions where the employees are rude or unhelpful. The most recent incident was the worst, though.
My (pregnant) wife asked one of the guys at the meat counter — Bryant — to chop some meat for a stew. I had asked her to buy this particular meat because it was on sale: $ 4.99/lb instead of $ 7.49/lb. Well, Bryant basically scoffed at her and told her that they already had stew meat pre-​packaged in the case, before *walking away* and leaving her at the counter. She took his word for it and grabbed the meat he indicated but didn’t realize the price — $ 7.49/lb, not on sale — of the meat until she got home. They also overcharged us for another random item on the receipt.
We went back immediately (it was 8:50pm, 10 minutes before closing time when we arrived) and took the meat to the customer service desk. They asked me to go back to the meat counter and ask them for the sale price, which is how I got to experience Bryant’s terrible attitude first-​hand. The dude actually *complained* that he was going to have to throw the old meat away after admitting he remembered my wife and telling her «there *might* be some meat in the case». In any case, I had them prepare the correct meat (which took them 10 – 15 minutes, and didn’t even start until someone from the front came back to ask what the holdup was) and returned to customer service. Now the woman at customer service complains that they are going to have to throw out the old meat if I don’t want to buy it; as if it’s my problem!
Before leaving, I demanded to speak to the «manager» (in quotes because they never actually admitted he *was* the manager) — Greg. Greg also seemed hostile at first (again, that wonderful customer service attitude which seems to prevail at Chuck’s), but was finally apologetic after I (now rather heatedly) explained the full story.
The only decent treatment we experienced during the whole incident was from a young lady (maybe a checker) standing by at customer service who actually took the initiative to apologize for our experience as we were preparing to leave. If I were running this store, she would be in charge of customer service.

I enjoy Chuck’s Produce as a customer. The produce department has a large selection of fruits and vegetables, but I find that it often spoils much more quickly than purchases made at the regular grocery stores in the area. Unlike the other reviewer who criticized the bakery, I have always enjoyed the cheesecakes, the signature prune cake, the homemade breads, and even a birthday cake without any problem. The grill and deli has delicious breakfasts, grilled sandwiches and burgers, and freshly made deli sandwiches as well as delicious homemade soups. I have also worked there as an employee and I must say that it was a big disappointment! I won’t play dirty politics here and thereby imitate their behavior. But I would think twice before applying there for a job. It is a revolving door and there’s definitely a reason why.

I’ve of two (or more) minds about the store. I’m not religious, I get that they are and I don’t really know how I feel about supporting that. As far as I know, they are probably one of the more benign, friendly, not ultra conservative religions. so I still shop there.
The prices are quite high for everything except produce (doesn’t seem high but I don’t buy a ton. I have noticed that it is high quality. So even if it is a little more expensive, I would say the produce part is worth it. I would never shop here for groceries and even the deli is a tad ridiculous although I seriously want to try the soft serve and daily dinners some time.
I do shop for bulk items and spices as those are competitive with other similar offerings at other stores.
The staff are super friendly and the store is always clean. All plusses. Parking is ridiculous. I don’t know if they underestimated the volume of shoppers they were going to get or the lot was just too small but if I could walk, I would.
They should have some kind of custom scale for spices though because what’s to say my teeny portion of X is a penny-​weight.

I love this store and love their prize drawings every year for a chance to win. Their products are ALWAYS fresh and they have great deals on produce at times… great meat selection and i don’t like pork so suits me. I don’t drink alcohol either love them!!!

Write employees up for being sick with doctors note!!! Belittle employees for mistakes in front of fellow employees and customers!!! This place is a joke, next time you shop there look at the employees faces its a disgrace.

I like Chuck’s produce a lot. They have a great variety. Expect to pay more than the average grocery store.

I like the food, the coffee shop area where you may sit and ponder. I noticed many other ponderers there… The baked chicken in the plastic take home containers was a little dry, the biscuits with the gravy were hard like they had been around awhile (Month), but other then that I think its a first class joint.
If nothing else go for the soup. Eight varieties sometimes. Help yourself and pay, I like it…

Might be a nice store, but if you can’t find a place to park, EVER, then it doesn’t do you much good now does it. Worst parking ever.

Breakfast burrito needs work. So you start off with a cold tortilla, then you add luke warm ingredients, and call that good? Yours is not my favorite, terrible

Being a former employee, I can strongly recommend NOT to wk here. You will be terrible pay be treared very poorly. Yelled At For The Littlest thinsg. They will also threaten to write you up if you request days off and for calling in sick. Besides myself many other current employees hate to be there, and to be talked down to and humiliated in front of customers and fellow employees is bad choice in management. These are just some reasons why all employees seem lifeless and have the expression of the fact they really don’t want to be there. Another thing is you can do all the drugs you want and they don’t even drug test people. Which is another reason why Chuck’s sucks.

Shocked that this grocery store only has 3.5 stars… Granted, I won’t to do my regular grocery shopping here most weeks, but I love the store. This is where I go when I want to treat myself.
They have the best bakery in Vancouver in my opinion. Amazing cakes, for affordable prices. Delicious four layer cakes for $ 17… Other stores’ comparable cakes cost twice as much. And some stores, such as Fred Meyer, get frozen cakes shipped in that they frost. No contest.
Beside from their bakery, they have amazing selection and pricing in fruits and veggies. Lots of my favorite items, like apples and red peppers are half the price of other stores. And the kids like getting to pick a fruit or veggie if they are well behaved. Yup, that’s how we roll.
As far as canned/​jarred/​frozen food here, it tends to run organic, natural and expensive. And they don’t carry pork or alcohol and are closed Saturdays. Not ideal, I know.
Their hot grilled sandwiches will knock your socks off, and the gelato is tasty too.
All in all, a great store but maybe not your weekly grocery stop.

I ordered a cake for my son’s 16^th birthday. The Baker asked if I wanted to let the decorator choose the decoration. I agreed but when I picked it up it didn’t look like I expected. Courtney took excellent care of me, she had the cake redecorated and gave me a free cupcake for the inconvenience. I was embarrassed to ask them to change it but I’m so glad I did.
The cake is beautiful and more appropriate for a 16-​year-​old boy. Courtney was very professional and has incredible customer service skills. We will be back.

This is the best grocery store I’ve been to in the entire west coast.
The entire store is full of local and organic things. All of the employees are kind. The store design makes for a comfortable experience. There is always someone to help you, and when you ask questions they listen and respond to the question.

The store itself warrants 4 stars, I want to say but the service wasn’t great. Perhaps it was a fluke (both times, no less) but I’m still willing to give it another shot.
If you’re on a budget, don’t come here.
The nice thing is the amount of options they have for meat and eggs. They have a lot of local stuff and I appreciate that. Their produce was nothing to write home about and my non-​organic produce actually went bad very quickly to the point where I wasn’t able to use it. What I don’t appreciate is the fact that they mark up Coffemate French Vanilla creamer literally 2x. There’s just no need for that.
The cashiers both times I have checked out seem like it’s the worst day of their life. It was difficult to even get a simple hello out of them. However, that wasn’t the case for the meat department or employees walking around the store. The meat department employees were fabulous. It seems that the cashiers simply hate their jobs and everybody else is happy as can be!
So, I’ll come here when I’m looking for organic animal products, but I don’t know that I’ll go out of my way to get groceries here again. FYI, they’re closed on Saturday… which I’m assuming is because of the hay-​zeus.

Chuck’s Produce may be closed Saturdays for religious reasons, but it’s hipper than Chuck Berry, healthier than Chuck Norris, and cooler than Chuck Taylor. It’s Chuck’s Produce and it’s Vancouver’s local answer to Whole Foods.
The selection is limited for such a large market, but the quality is no wannabe … so, I don’t mind spending a few more bucks at Chuck’s. The produce section may be the star and dominates the right of the store, but I love the bakery in back and eat a quick dinner here from the deli a couple times a month. Be sure to go early if you want a burger (which my wife says is awesome) cause the grill closes at 7:00. I tend to stick with the warm soups, a design-​your-​own Sandwich, and one of the pre-​made Kale Salads.
There’s no pork or shrimp at Chuck’s, so, I can’t get everything I need, but when I want service with a smile and a step up from the national grocery chains, I always choose Chuck’s.
Nothing comes between me and my Chuck’s … except the Sabbath Day and yummy Bacon.

Congrats to Chuck’s for filling the void for a large local/​organic/​natural grocery store in the Salmon Creek area.
Come here for cheap produce, homestyle hot comfort food, or for their gelato/​coffee bar.
Don’t come here for meat, packaged non-​perishable foods, or for overpriced cakes.
Chuck’s has a really good selection of hot deli food for a very reasonable price. Sundays are usually packed with families and old people eating pizza, meatloaf, burgers, and other unhealthy, white-​people types of food. It’s physically impossible for a person to eat an entire Chuck’s grilled sandwich on their own, so do yourself a favor and split it with a friend.
The gelato and coffee bar offers a huge assortment of made to order drinks, including espressos, milkshakes, tap kombucha, and soda fountain drinks. However, their best kept secret is actually the GREEN DRINK. For $ 3.59 you can get a 24 ounce smoothie made with spirulina, kale, strawberries, mango, and apple juice, It tastes amazing and is the cheapest smoothie you’ll find anywhere.
Also, bring your kids to Chuck’s because it is a hotspot for small screaming children. The store adores hyperactive toddlers and will even fuel them with free mini ice cream cones, giant cookies, and frequent circus events.
The reason why I had to take one star away was due to the same reasons as everyone else: no alcohol, no shellfish, no pork, and no Saturdays.

There are things that I absolutely love about Chucks…
1) The produce is almost alway local. Big bonus in my book.
2) They have a meat counter with locally sourced meat, with butchers on hand for advice and to cut meat portions to your specs.
3) Their bakery produces excellent bread with less than 5 ingredients. Yay!
4) They serve up some delicious lunch items from their grill/​deli. And, the fireplace in the dining area is a huge plus when it’s cold outside.
I only have two small «dislikes»… Although I sincerely appreciate them closing on Saturday in honor of their beliefs, I like to shop on Saturday and always find myself wishing they were open (selfishly). And, the bulk item pricing can be a little over the top.
All things considered though, this store is a huge plus on the Salmon Creek map. Happy they’re here and will remain a loyal shopper.

I like Chuck’s but there are many things I don’t like:
No pork, shellfish or alcohol.
Closed on Saturdays.
I do all my shopping on Saturdays so if I need anything special from Chuck’s then I have to make a specific trip to the store. Several times their machines were down (Mill Plain store) and they were only taking cash/​checks (of which I carry none) by the time I got to the register and had to walk out of the store with nothing.
I find that I go in with high expectations but almost always leave disappointed either in the lack of offerings or excessive pricing. Three stars for free cookies for kids.

I’m not sure why I gave it a mere 3 stars previously. Not having to travel from Hazel Dell to 164^th for certain things is a big plus.
Some things I should have mentioned;
They are closed Saturday for Family Day.
They do not sell pork, shellfish or alcohol.
This may be the only place in Hazel Dell where you can charge an electric car.

This place is a little more granola/​organic than what I’d typically choose. I like this place and come here often. It’s right next to my work.
Here are a few highlights from Chucks:
— cheap daily latte special (only about 2.25 for a flavored latte)
— lots of options with the salad bar
— lots of options for lunch
— yummy desserts
I do have to say that it is a little expensive. It’s also hard to find your go-​to brand like Kleenex. Items for every day may not be exactly what you were hoping for.
The produce is good and may be a little less expensive than whole foods.
