I’ve worked in the service industry, so I try and be the sort of customer *I* would like to have. With cabs I give them plenty of notice for a pickup(an hour minimum), am not picky about the route(I actually prefer the slightly more expensive but faster route), and tip well. I only have one real requirement. I can’t miss my train. Due to the nature of my employment, I travel the train a lot. Usually weekly, sometimes twice a week. Twice now I WOULD have missed the train if it had not been running significantly late, and I actually DID miss it once. Let me be clear, I really have no complaints against the drivers. They did their job as best as I could tell perfectly. On the other hand, the dispatcher constantly promised that the driver was«minutes» away… even when we were already past the scheduled pickup, and even when I called him on it.(Come on, you can’t promise me 10 minutes after pickup that the driver is «minutes» away, only to have him show up 30 minutes after pickup. You have GPS on the driver, so I call BS.) One of the times when I almost missed the train, the driver offered to take me to the next stop, same price. That would have been easily an hour for him(round trip) with no guarantee of success. Because of this(and a few other things), I’m really pretty sure most of the fault lies with the dispatcher. The cabs tend to be older and not real comfortable. I could care less, they are clean and that’s all I care about. The one real oddity is they call in your credit card. In the days of Square, there is really no reason for doing it manually, it only costs the company money due to the time the driver is sitting. It also makes that whole late thing worse. I generally give somebody a couple of chances, but I can’t risk it any more. Overall I’m fairly happy with them, but I cannot trust them to deliver me on time, so they won’t be getting any more calls from me. FYI: They are also known as Vancouver Cab.
