This is a super fun concept for ice cream! The options are almost endless. And the whole liquid nitrogen vapor spilling off the counter thing is a cool experience. The ice cream’s texture was great – very smooth. The service, however, was very lackluster. Both employees working were efficient but quite terse and they seemed like they hated their job. :(

So this is one of the coolest ice cream places ever. You can literally have whatever you want. You pick your base. You pick your flavor. You pick your add ins. You want custard? You got it. You want froyo? You got it. You want thick and creamy ice cream? You got it. You vegan? You got it.(coconut base) Chocolate? Yup Cotton candy? Yup Salted caramel? Yup Cookie dough? Yup Peanut butter? Yup And they have tons of toppings to throw in. Berries, candy bars, sprinkles, nuts and cookies! You create your dream dessert. And it tastes like heaven.

Absolutely love this ice cream! I’ve always been a fan of coldstone until I tried flashfreeze. It’s so creamy and delicious!

Liquid turned into ice cream right in front of my fave??? Mind blowing right? I guess it’s neat and fun but not really the greatest ice cream. It has a hard texture to it but then melts in your mouth right away. It’s not bad, I just think there is way better ice cream out there, I would even recommend menchies down the street over this place. The nice thing is that there is a ton of options. The bad thing is that there is a ton of options and it basically made my fiancé cry like a baby Kangaroo without her mama’s pouch because she couldn’t decide. Overall a good place but there is better for sure.

Honestly, I don’t get the appeal of this. The nitrogen flash freezing seems cool, but I wasn’t blown away by the resultant texture. I may come back and give this another shot, but for now, I don’t understand the hype.

Flash Freeze Dreamery is best enjoyed if their use of liquid nitrogen is abandoned in the mind as a distant afterthought. Their ice cream is on the better end of the stick for average quality. The menu leaves you with a very nice array of choices as far as ice cream flavors and topping selection. There are plenty of tables at this strip mall location. Ever since I tried Smitten around the time of a wedding in California, I have been looking for some equally good liquid nitrogen ice cream in the Portland area. Seeing their manufacture is part of the fun, but of course eating it takes center stage. Flash Freeze prices their ice cream at average levels. My ice cream was graham cracker flavored and it tasted nice as well as creamy. Nothing stood out. This place on the whole is good, not great. Flash Freeze Dreamery is a welcome provider of ice cream.

This place is really cool. No literally they use liquid nitrogen to freeze your flavor creations before your very eyes. They offer a great variety of toppings, favours, and ice cream bases. Since it is all about the base I was pretty impressed. I would definitely come back. However I would ask for half the flavor syrup to cut the sweetness.

Oh how I wish I could give 5 stars! But i was so underwhelmed. We tried four different kinds of creations(all from the board) and the three of us decided we just won’t be back. The ice cream base itself just isn’t that delicious. Sorry!

Pretty tasty made-to-order ice cream. Great fun choosing the base, the mix-in ingredients, toppings, and the vehicle(cone, bowl, etc) then watching the freezing mixing process. However; I’m not sure about their claims of «natural» and«fresh» as some of the fruit seemed to be prepackaged. I’d give another star if they used local fruit and milk. And the other star is for Sunday — what kind of Ice Cream shop is closed on Sundays?! Fine, go to church, but hire some atheists, Saturday mass goers, etc to open the place up to those of us who want to enjoy our weekends!

Flash Freeze is a pretty neat place to hang out at after a meal, but my problem is it’s much more for the experience than the actual ice cream. I found the ice cream to be mediocre and overpriced. It doesn’t taste bad by any means, but it’s average and doesn’t taste much different than average ice cream from a freezer. But, that being said, this place is pretty neat and is worth coming to once with the way they make the ice cream. I reccomend Cotton Candy Carnival if you come, as I think it’s the best of the ice cream there. TL;DR: Cool experience, but not worth coming more than once.

My son and I really like this place! However, the last few times I have come in the evening to get my son and I some ice cream they always seem to skimp on the ice cream. They have three different sized bowls. Tonight I ordered a size medium and got the amount of about a size small I wish I had taken a picture. but if it happens again I definitely will. The girl that works during the day does a fantastic job and you are given the amount of ice cream that you pay for. It’s just too bad I cannot come in the evening and get the same kind of service

There’s so many flavors and toppings to choose from and everything we had was excellent. The flash freezing process is fun to watch and it results in very fresh ice cream/frozen custard amongst many other bases to choose from. We both chose a custard base. It was incredibly fresh and smooth. They had a ton of flavor options and several mix-ins. I had banana frozen custard with Nutella swirl, fresh bananas, almonds, and whipped cream on top. My wife had cake batter frozen custard with brownies, cookie dough, almonds, and Nutella swirl. Both were very good choices.

So I’m in the middle of studying for my genetics final when I think THISSUCKS I NEEDICECREAM!!! I pull out my handy dandy Unilocal machine and find this fine establishment just 6 minutes from my dad’s house. Upon arrive there was a line to the door. No joke. I ordered pistachio almond for my dad and the smores for myself. It took a while but I needed a break so I didn’t really mind and watching the ice smoke from pouring the nitrogen into the kitchen aides was pretty frickin sweet. They have sooo many options of flavors, toppers and ice cream styles(cream, gelato, custard etc) My ice cream was the bomb but a little odd in texture which is why I’m giving the 4⁄5 I’m not sure of this is supposed to be the texture with this way of making ice cream. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t unpleasant. Just different. I will definitely be back the next time I have a hankering.

I’m a sucker for gelato, frozen yogurt and ice cream. I can get all that here. And more! If you live in the area and have not tried these guys, you are missing out. Go today! Unless it’s Sunday –only day they are closed.

Visited Flash Freeze for the first time today after reading a few good reviews from Unilocalers. A young lady by the name of Amy helped me and she was patient and knowledgeable. I had caramel frozen yogurt, salted caramel drizzle, toasted coconut, and toasted pecans. It was to die for and I can’t wait to go back. I think they will give Menchie’s a run for their money!

Never appreciated how great Flash Freeze truly was until I moved away and no longer was able to go. $ 3.49 for any base and up to 5 toppings?! Literally the BEST frozen treat place I’ve ever been to. Their Cotton Candy Carnival is like no where else. Absolutely love it. I actually drove 12 hours from Utah just to get some. Great service and management.

It is sadly an unusual occurrence when a business owner is passionate and caring about his business, and his customers’ experiences. After posting my initial review, I received a very thoughtful, sincere, and friendly message from the owner. He was very concerned with my disappointment with my first visit, and wanted to learn everything he could about what I ordered, etc. so he could investigate and resolve the issues. Based on this very impressive communication, I decided to give Flash Freeze Dreamery another try, and I’m very happy that I did! My previous take of things being a «gimmick» couldn’t be more wrong. My initial false impression was that they didn’t have to deliver a quality product if there was a good show instead. On my second visit, the quality of the product was nothing less than excellent, and you get a great show in the process! Flash Freeze Dreamery requires a bit more thought than other shops because everything is made to order right on the spot. The use of liquid nitrogen enables an almost overwhelming amount of options. Here’s how it works: 1. You start by picking an unflavored base such as custard, gelato, frozen yogurt, premium ice cream, etc. 2. You pick a flavor to add to your base. 3. You pick from a huge array of add-ins. 4. They make it for you right on the spot. 5. The resultant product is velvety-smooth because the instant freezing prevents ice crystals from forming. I took my entire family this time, and we ordered lots of different items. This time, I went with a vanilla flavored custard with bananas, cherries, and pecan pralines. The difference between the first and second visit was completely night-and-day. The vanilla custard was very rich without being heavy, and was absolutely velvety-smooth and delicious. The vanilla used is Madagascar vanilla, and it is excellent. My eldest son went with the non-fat frozen yogurt because he likes frozen yogurt, not because it was non-fat. He opted for a waffle bowl, and raved about it. I tasted a piece of it, and it was awesome. You can definitely tell that it was very freshly-made using very high-quality ingredients. He said the yogurt was outstanding, and that you’d never be able to tell it was non-fat. My youngest son got a simple strawberry flavored premium ice cream base. He finished it all. He is extremely picky, and his finishing it all is a huge testimonial to the quality and flavor. My other son and my wife also finished theirs very quickly, and absolutely loved it. We also got two chocolate chip cookies, and a brownie. These are served warm, and they can be added to the ice cream if you’d like. The brownie was the most unique I’d ever tasted. It had a very unusual«stretchy» texture, but it was actually an excellent brownie. I really can’t wait to go back and get some more. The owner stopped by repeatedly to make sure things were good, and to make sure we had everything we needed. He and his family were running the store, and they did an outstanding job. He really takes all his customers’ feedback to heart, and acts on all feedback to improve his business. I’m very happy to report that the common complaint from other Unilocal!users of service being slow is NOT an issue at all. The owner was prepping the orders as they were entered into the computer, and his son was manning the freeze stations. The first order was complete before I’d finished paying, and the rest of the 8 items we’d ordered were up within 3 minutes. I’m also very impressed with the technology used by the business. They have a great points system that uses your cell phone number. You get text messages alerting you to your points balance immediately after your purchase. The orders are printed out on stickers as soon as they’re entered into the computer. There are also automated touch-screens that the employees use to deliver the liquid nitrogen to the freeze stations. It is all very high-tech. Other nice bonuses are the excellent décor, and really comfortable chairs. Everything is bright, colorful, and inviting and not at all garish. All my family’s been talking about since our visit is how they can’t wait to go back to try some more varieties. With their HUGE menu, it will be a very long time before we get to any repeats. Do yourself a favor and visit Flash Freeze Dreamery. You’ll be happy that you did.
