The place is clean, service quick & pleasant, food hot, pub booths comfortable. Sandwiches, salads, burgers are the American menus. I had fried shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, schezuan beef. Tasty except for beef. It was bland. Hot & sour soup was not spicy hot. I could taste vinegar. It was ok. So I would go again because it is sit down and I would try a few other things before writing it off.

This was an interesting place as is has the normal Chinese restaurant look when you walk in, but it also has a good sized bar in the back. The food is about what I would expect. I am normally a huge fan of general tso chicken, and here it is just ok. I would give them 3 – 4 stars if it weren’t for their pong pong chicken! It is amazing.

My friend took me here for lunch and I have to say I was very pleased with the meal. There was a stunning contrast between the crunch of the crab puffs with the tender soggy chicken. Although when I needed to urinate my trip to the bathroom was unpleasant because of the route I had to take to get there. I had to walk past the stoves and food preparation area to access the bathroom. I watched the cook look at me with a threatening stare. It made me feel uneasy and vulnerable, so my need to urinate grew like I was next on the menu. Good food, but uncomfortable staff.

Happy Family is our favorite Chinese place to eat. We moved 270 miles away and were so excited to go to lunch today at 1130 while we are in town. Pong pong chicken is AMAZING, and no where in Southern Oregon knows how to make a crab puff. SODISAPPOINTED to get there and they are CLOSED!!! Don’t open until 12:30 on a Saturday. Whose crappy decision was it to not open until 12:30? Unilocal better change the hours of operation.

I wish I could agree with the people who say this is the best Chinese restaurant they have ate at. We just left there and I am still amazed at how much I just spent for CHINESEFOOD!!! It wasn’t even that good. My rice portion was so small, maybe ½ cup, with a full sized entrée, I asked for more. We got the bill and I was actually charged a 1 $ for it. I have never, nor have I ever heard of a Chinese restaurant charging for their rice. Service was not that good either. There were maybe two other tables besides us during dinner time, now I know why. Save your money, but if you do decide to waste it here, BRINGYOUROWNRICE!

I cannot say anything negative about the service, they were very attentive. BUT if you have high blood pressure or are a heart patient you may want to avoid most of the Chinese dishes. The place is a pub so reminds me of bars and pubs in the 80’s that provided free salted peanuts to whet your thirst, this place grossly over-salts everything Chinese… or at least every Chinese dish I have had possibly in hopes of patrons ordering more drinks. I could only take one spoonful of soup before my tongue instantly felt shriveled from the amount of salt in it. The main meal was no better. I don’t know if they eat their own fare from time to time but maybe they should and then hide the soy sauce and salt from the cook. Oddly the sauces were not real dark like too much soy sauce was used so the cook must freely add white salt because you cannot get that level of saltiness without a heavy hand and lots of help. They have the potential to be a decent restaurant here in Vancouver if they wanted to but until they can get the cook to temper his love of over-salting they won’t see me there. Seriously, those with health problems be warned and hopefully the management will take measures to modify their use of salt. Oh, did I say it was salty??? Maybe I will go back and try a burger but it is so close to Burger Bungalow, why would I do that? Please folks you really have decent offerings. I could have really liked the Pong pong chicken.

I did take out last night. Salt and pepper calamari was yummy! Garlic chicken had good taste but more batter than chicken. And the house chow mien special was good, however if you do this for take out, they package the noodles separate from the sauce, meat and veggies, so combine and let it sit for the noodles to absorb some of the flavor. The ladies were very nice and offered water and tea while I waited for my order. The next time I come in it’ll be to dine in!

This place is the people that used to own the location on Main Street in Battle Ground. Food is the same awesome stuff they had at the old location, and much of the staff is the same as well. Its a great place at lunch time, not overcrowded and plenty of food on the plate to have leftovers for an afternoon snack, too! Service is always friendly and upbeat, its one of our favorites.

Food was pretty tasty but a little pricey for the portion sizes. We got the general Tsos(so?) chicken, beef with broccoli and the spring rolls. The flavors in the chicken and beef were great, but the spring rolls were a little bland. It’s pretty close by so I’m sure we’ll be back.

Low quality food this shouldn’t be an option in town try great taste, good taste anything but this. We forgot we came when they first opened and were sadly reminded by enduring lunch here today. The service was great so I had to tip, the food bland not fresh and portion sizes are poor for lunch which was a blessing in this case, be warned.

Shrimp fried rice, and delux mixed vegetables and my firend ordered black bean chicken. Nothing outstanding about the flavour, very ordinary but not terrible either. Ive had a lot worse. What stunned both me and my firend were the portion sizes. They give you a circle shaped plate same size as the one you eat off of. You obviously can not put that much food on those plates. And the price is a bit high. What is it with so many of these places(and i dont mean only chinese restaurants). Why such small portions. We may have thought to return here perhaps some day but we wont be coming back. For the price you pay for the portion you get not worth spending all the money and still being hungry.

Nice, I had the #1 combo all my favorites pork chow mein, pork fried rice, pork egg Foo Yung… I did not care for the hot and sour soup… It was 95 out and just wasn’t that into soup lol… I don’t like egg drop soup at all, anywhere so it was nice they had a choice… Oh yeah pretty inexpensive too… I will be back.

Low quality in their dishes. Had lunch option and rice must have been steamed the day before. Portion sizes are lacking, especially for a chinese restaurant.

This place is the Best Chinese food experience I have ever had in Washington/Oregon. The staff are happy and friendly, the food is fantastic! My Family lives in Forest Grove, and will make the trek across the valley to enjoy this atmosphere again. If you get the chance don’t hesitate to enjoy great food and great people!

The food here is good. People friendly. The place is clean. Food comes out quickly. The only problem I’ve had is trying to get a drink refill can be a wait.

Good service Was seated as soon as i walked in. Servers are nice and friendly. One of my favorite things about this place is the atmosphere, it’s a little dark but I love the fact that I can actually have a conversation with my husband and not have to raise my voice. I hate when some restaurants have their music so loud I can’t think. Love love love the crab puffs ! The food is good and are reasonable prices. My family and I go here at least once a week.

To be quite honest in Vancouver I really haven’t found a lot of good Chinese restaurants let alone one that is fast and delicious but this place the happy family restaurant is hands-down the best I’ve eaten yet the barbecue pork was good finally the yellow mustard is spicy enough to wear it makes me cry a little I like that! If you haven’t been here give it a try I recommend it all away around

I will say service was LOUSY. The place was practically empty so you’d think we’d get good service. But noooooooo! They asked us if we’d like something from the bar, sure! Get this straight, we ordered simple drinks, I ordered beer. There was no bartender. They had a kitchen person come out to make our drinks. It took 25 minutes to get our drinks because they didn’t know how to make a Greyhound. Really? It’s grapefruit juice and vodka! And all you do to pour a beer is put the glass under the spout and pull the tap. We were disgusted at the service. But I have to say! They serve lemon chicken!!! I’ve been searching for lemon chicken in Chinese restaurants for years to no avail. The best lemon chicken I’ve ever had was in a small village in Litomêrîce, Czech Republic. Unbelievable that I’d have to go that far to find the best lemon chicken in the world. Happy Family restaurants was just about as good. And that’s why they get three stars. Service has to count for something.
