Point A Auto Sales

Yes, buying used cars really sucks and yes, most all used car sales men are sleazy. All this comes with the territory, so writing poor reviews for used car dealerships based on this criteria is kind of useless. Except, Point A was ESPECIALLY sleazy and dishonest, so I feel it’s necessary to share my opinion!
We went and looked at a used VW Jetta that was advertised on Craigslist. The car looked great so I took it for a test drive, leaving my partner and daughter behind to take a walk. One of the owners went with me and keep discouraging me from taking a long drive. Essentially, he had urged me to take it around the block and back. When I went further, he became visibly strained and our small talk faltered. Then the car started dinging and the oil light went on. He nearly jumped out of his skin: «WHAT WAS THAT?» When we returned they gave me the usual spiel about how it was checked out and is in great shape, etc. etc. They said I could take it to my mechanic the next day. Well, when I called the next day they gave me a load of excuses about why I couldn’t take it to my mechanic but HAD to take it to the shop down the street. I said no and located another shop with good Unilocal reviews (hah!) less than 10 minutes away. They refused to let me take it there. After essentially begging to let me take it to an independent mechanic, and being refused, I walked away.
When my partner and daughter returned from their stroll, the salesman went and sulked in a corner. It was such weird behavior, and in retrospect I can only assume he felt like a scum bag trying to rip off a young family.
They continued to advertise the car on Craigslist, until a couple weeks later, the ads bore a drastically reduced price and listed a whole slew of serious things wrong with it. Lies, lies, lies! I would absolutely avoid this place, they are extremely dishonest.

Wow! This place is a total joke. I had a horrible experience and think that the service was painfully bad. I went in to check out a 2001 VW Golf. The guy ‘John’ did a real good job of talking it up. I mentioned that I would definitely want to get an outside mechanic to check it out (who would buy a car without checking it) as If I’m just going to take John’s word. He got a little sketchy about that. I asked if the timing belt had been done at 80k like everyone reccomends and he tried to talk around that, so I asked if I could see the carfax and maybe call the last few repair shops to see if they had done the belt and he said «oh they wouldn’t be able to tell you that «even though I have done that twice, with success. So then he sends this little 19 year-​old spy with me to bring it to the mechanic where afterwards the spy rushed back to report what the mechanic did and didn’t do. So when I mention that the belt isn’t done he tried to start arguing with me that my mechanic wouldn’t know that and how much does my mechanic want to charge me (he doesn’t, he is my friend). So finally I just say look I’d like to make an offer, and he says «oh we’re not accepting offers right now», which is crazy ridiculous because the car is marked up $ 2,000 dollars more than its Kelly Blue Book value. He tells me that there are 3 different people in line to buy and I said let them buy it then! (he was totally lying out of his ass!) I mean what type of bussiness thinks that they can overcharge in an economy like this? It’s buyers market baby! Hence, the little golf is still sitting there. Too bad. I really reccomend buying from someone else. Somewhere honest and trustworthy.
