After reading reviews on Unilocal,I decided to try this nail salon. The first time I went, two weeks ago, I got a mani/pedi and bikini wax. Bikini wax was painful — inexperienced person(took forever), wax was too hot(I told her several times) and I ended up with burns for almost a week after. Don’t get the wax, even though it’s dirt cheap($ 27 for brazilian). I should have known better, you do get what you pay for. They encouraged me to try the gel manicure, for $ 14 additional, I went for it. I loved it the first time. I got a natural color. Two weeks later when I went back, I got a bright pink. The same manicurist worked on me, but the result was terrible. It took 2 hours and there are smudges in several nails that she tried and tried to get out — by putting 5 layers of top coat(smudges were not caused by me, but by a bad UV light box that had 2 of 4 bulbs missing). And after I left, I realized the gel is on some of the skin around my fingers, which looks sloppy and it’s annoying becuase it’s tight on my skin. I was charged a different price the second time — $ 17 additional for gel. $ 37 for mani(gel)/pedi. Still pretty cheap, but I don’t know if I’ll be back after today’s experience.

After my recent move from the OC to marina del rey, one of my biggest concerns was, «who will do my nails now.!» Because of the plethora of nail shops in OC, the prices there are comparatively much lower than LA. I was scared I would have to pay an arm and leg every month for my gel manicure/pedicure. After calling around a few different shops in the area, they all quoted me a price of $ 45+. Plus tip would set me back over $ 50! This was certainly not acceptable after years of paying only $ 35 for such services. Finally, thanks to Unilocal,I decided to call this place and they quoted me a price of $ 34 for gel manicure + regular pedicure. I decided to give it a shot, based solely on the great price. I was greeted by a very sweet lady named Natalie, who did my a GREAT job on the manicure. She was patient trying to ask me exactly what I wanted– glitter ring fingers(see photo). She also seemed to take a genuine interest in my life and I enjoyed our conversation. The lady that did my pedicure took her time and did a great job too. Overall, the whole process took almost 1.5 hour, but that was ok because I had the whole afternoon free and it was nice getting to know my manicurist. For the price, I’m sure the quality of service cannot be beat in this area!

I wanted eyelash extension. Since I was around this area, I Unilocaled and found this place. Biggest mistake!!! I got eye lash extension, They put way too much glue that i had a hard time open my eyes for a day. I had to go beauty consultant next day to took my eyelash extensions and they were surprised how horrible that looks and unprofessional, Super cheap but you will get what you pay for. It is not worth to spend money here. I will never go back and strongly recommend not to go there.

I stumbled across this on Unilocal and decided to give a mani-pedi a shot(based off of the previous review). I didn’t even plan it but I ended up walking in on one of those Tuesdays where everything is cheaper. Got my mani-pedi(with callus removal add-on) and my eyebrows done all for under $ 30, including tip! Both services came out great(eyebrows were the best I’ve had in years. They trim them, which I like). Even though it’s not the most visually beautiful nail spa we’ve ever seen, they do have jacuzzi chairs(or whatever you call those things), which is fun. And to top it all off the ladies were extremely friendly and gentle. I’m anxious to try their other services. I’m definitely a permanent customer.

I’ve put this review off long enough and I am finally ready to let everyone in on my best kept secret — TRUENAILS! Where can you get a gel manicure and pedicure, eyebrow and brazilian wax(mmhm), eyelash extensions, and pay the tip… ALLUNDER $ 100? In a tiny little nail salon… in Venice… hidden inside Fox Discount Mall… YES, it’s true… it’s TRUENAILS! This place is the definition of BANG for your BUCK! I have not found a salon that comes anywhere close in price andddd they do a GREAT job! I am totally baffled that this place only has 2 reviews! So how do I maintain my somewhat extravagant lifestyle with the small amount of money I make(and a little help from Daddy), you might ask? Because I don’t waste money at overpriced salons! … thanks to TRUENAILS! full set — $ 17 Eyebrow Wax $ 7 Bikini/Brazilian Wax $ 25 Eyelash Extensions $ 15 …I could go on, but I don’t want to entice too many poeple to flock to my secret spot! And the best part is… there is a Tuesday Special! If you go in on Tuesdays, everything is a few bucks CHEAPER(yes, it gets even better)! Eyebrows $ 5, etc etc. But there’s a catch: True Nails is CLOSEDTHE2nd&4thTUESDAYOFEACHMONTH! So don’t make that mistake as I often do — I don’t know why, but I still can’t seem to remeber that! The icing on the cake for me is definitely the service. The women who work here are the NICEST nail technicians I have EVER had work on me! When I walk in, they stand up and greet me by name and I am immediately put in a chair within a minute or two. It’s rarely very busy(even on Tuesdays), but even when there happens to be a few poeple waiting, I ALWAYS get special treatment when I come in(but that’s only because I have been going there for years now — totally worth it)! It’s True… TRUENAILS has got it all: GREAT prices, FANTASTIC nail & waxing services, and the SWEETEST most accomodating technicians. This little hole in the wall(er, the Fox Discount Mall) is a rarity and has all of the elements of my perfect salon — and that is incredibly hard to find in LA in my opinion. The secret is out — now you know! It’s TRUE!

I think it is my dangerous mix of the following attributes– being fairly vain, very broke, quite adventurous, and situationally invincible-feeling– that led me this weekend to find myself sitting in front of a middle-aged Vietnamese woman donning a stained apron poking glue into my eyes with a pair of metal tweezers. Let me back up. A relative newcomer to LA, I only recently learned about the concept of eyelash extensions(or «false eyelashes» as they were less glamorously called in the 80’s). Being the fairly vain person that I already confessed to be, I was naturally intrigued by the prospect of being in possession of an absurdly long and full set of lashes. The problem was that this beauty procedure seemed to cost, on average, a steep $ 150 – 200. There was no way around it; it was something I simply could not justify in my sad student budget. Enter Get True Nails. Last week, I’d heard second-hand that this little nail salon offered eyelash extensions for SIXTEEN dollars. Upon learning that I could get this procedure done for an inexplicable 90% discount, I was simultaneously slightly disturbed and incredibly intrigued. Of course I was going to try it out. I couldn’t find any reviews for the salon online, only further fueling my anxiety when I pulled into the parking lot on Saturday morning. This very, er, rustic nail salon is located on Lincoln Blvd, in the Fox Discount Plaza. My friend had warned me that the location looked a bit sketchy, but I was still surprised when I pulled up. You have been warned: it definitely looks a little ghetto. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by an incredibly sweet woman named Natalie who I think may own the shop. After hearing what I wanted, we got right down to business. Natalie pulled out cases of false eyelashes of varying lengths and tubes of glue and glue remover and set to work, asking me to hold a tiny, rusted fan pointed at my face to help speed the glue drying on my lashes as she applied. All the while, she chatted away friendlily, doling out unsolicited, but nonetheless sage marriage advice(«Don’t be too picky! 70−80% good man is good enough!»). An hour later, I had a surprisingly natural set of thick, long lashes, and a new resolve to find a 75%-perfect husband. Barring any serious eye infections developing over the upcoming week, I think it’s safe to say that I got my sixteen dollar’s worth. And I don’t think I look too drag queenesque or Maury Povich guest-like. Kidding aside, Natalie was such a sweetheart, and though I have nothing to compare them too, I really think she did a good job on my lashes. I think they are definitely of good value, but I’m guessing that they are different from the more expensive applications insofar as they are not individual lashes, but rather little clusters of 4 – 5 lashes. So rather than having like 30 singles, I have maybe 7 clusters. Although it hasn’t happened yet, I imagine the danger of this type of application will be that it will look really weird when one cluster falls out. Fortunately, touch-ups run $ 5, and removal is also $ 5, so there is very little to lose. PLEASE don’t remove them yourself– I seriously shudder to think of what that could do. In conclusion, if you’re a little adventurous and on a tight budget, try Get True Nails out for their super-valued eyelash extensions!(Also to note: I didn’t get my nails done, but they seem to do a great job at that, too.)
