My 80 year old mother recently started a knitting project that she needed some help with so she went here to sign up for a class. The woman told her that she couldn’t take a class unless she bought the yarn from them. My mother explained that she already had the yarn but she would buy other yarn from them if they agreed to let her take the class. The woman agreed and my mom went to four classes at $ 15/class. After the 4th class the instructor called(not the woman my mom bought the yarn from). She was mortified and very apologetic but explained to my mom that she wasn’t allowed to come to class anymore because the owner didn’t want her using yarn in the class from another store. My mother explained that she had purchased yarn from The Knitting Place but just wasn’t using it at the class. They would not refund her for the yarn or the $ 60 she’d paid for the class, nor would they allow her to return to class. This was a dirty, classless move on the owners part. To sell someone yarn and charge them for four classes and then kick them out of your class is rude, obnoxious and just bad business. At the very least she should’ve refunded the money.

Went here on vacation with my parents in Florida — No LYS in San Diego, so I wanted to visit :) Friendly staff, but VERY limited selection. The woman working there says that she doesn’t like spending«thousands of dollars on product on the ‘off season’»(meaning summer), but that meant that there were lots of empty shelves. I was impressed to see a nice selection of beads and needles, however, so props for that!

This has to be the friendliest knitting store you will ever shop at. The owner knows every skein of yarn in her store. Even better, she is a knitting consultant who will listen to your project description and will know EXACTLY the yarn that will make it perfect! And while she carries many of the quality brands that avid knitter turn to she also carries a huge selection of personally-chosen artisan and specialty yarns. Silks, wools, super-soft alpaca for baby knits … and the colors are gorgeous! Having trouble with a project, can’t understand your pattern, think you made a mistake? She takes her customers aside and provides personal help. She is extremely patient and determined to help you get it right. Looking to knit and socialize? Once a week there is the«Knit & Pick» where you can get help from fellow knitters or just work on your project in the company of others. She’s even shipped to other states and countries! Whether you are new to knitting or an expert this is the place!
