This is my favorite place to eat! I always feel like I am at an extension of home, when I come here. The food is amazing! Everyone is friendly and kind. If you haven’t eaten here yet, make it a priority to check it out, you won’t be disappointed. Oh! They also have the best pancakes!

I’m hoping my review helps them get to the 4.5 rating. They have the best carnitas ever. Super fried and crunchy like I like it. Carnitas plate is just the best.

Ortiz always delivers– great prices– consistent food and prompt service. I came in and ordered the breakfast special(eggs– rice– beans– asada grilled onions– rice) and coffee for less than $ 10. It came with a little side salad and flour tortillas. Tasty– fresh and exciting! I usually get their asada burritos but this is also to die for.

Great food and wonderful service. The inside could use a little bit of updating. other than that this place is a hidden gem(: I usually order my burritos to go and enjoy them up at the cross or down at the beach just a short drive away. They are always prompt with phone orders and always so friendly when we come in to pick up our food!

This is definitely an authentic Mexican food restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you feel welcomed and you know it is a family-owned business. From the lady taking my order to the young girl bringing my food, everyone was very polite and welcoming. The restaurant is spacious and surprisingly, is very well maintained and clean. There was a good flow of customers coming in and out; always a good indicator of a restaurant being popular. Now to the food. The breakfast burritos were amazing(chorizo and eggs)! I also had a chance to try out their asada tacos and I’ll I have to say is that they are. If you’re on the Avenue looking for some Mexican food, give this place a try.

Breakfast burrito = potatoes /eggs /beans /cheese /cilantro /salsa /bacon. Typically share it with the wifey, perfect start to any day. Enough said, $ 7.

I wasn’t expecting this place to be nearly as good as it was. I got the carne asada burrito with no rice. It was loaded with meat and cheese and pico de gio which i asked for. The place is big enough to take Bubbah gumps family and friends(forest). The appearance is so/so but I wasn’t planning on eating off the floor or counters. Good food, cute waitresses, cold drinks. GOTRYIT. P.S I spent about $ 9 to put myself in a full blown level 3 food coma. You’re welcome.

If I had a chance to change the name of this place it would be called«Ortiz Bad Service Time». Me and my father were on a search for good menudo on a Monday, almost impossible, considering menudo is usually a Saturday and Sunday thing. So we found Ortiz Taco Time, Cool! Not so Cool as soon as we walked in. First of all we were greeted by the female schizophrenic street walker outside the restaurant, Merry Christmas she said, and proceeded to bad mouth the owner. we started eating our food, and during our breakfast, she comes in again, and starts bad mouthing the owner again!!! I believe that owner was so distracted, he didn’t even asked us if we needed anything else. Actually he did, just as we were closing out our bill. just a little too late. We will not be entering this place again.

I kept meaning to write this review, since I work a few blocks away and enjoy coming here for lunch. I usually just have a veggie burrito or a chile relleno burrito(yum!) — but there are lots of other good items on the menu, too. It’s an unpretentious, comfortable atmosphere and the people that work here are very nice. First time I ate here, I noticed how very tasty the food is(& loved the warm chips, too.) Later, I found out that the owner/chef had worked at the fancy-shmancy Santa Barbara Four Seasons Biltmore. So glad he decided to open his own place here, where I can enjoy his cooking!

Would you trust a white guy telling you where to eat Mexican food? Of course NOT! They would probably tell you«I love the service» WTF is that? Fu*k the service! This is food we are talking about here! Anyways This is real Mexican food! I’m talking about you crossed the border for a delicious taco ! Highly recommended!

CARNITASWITH A CRUNCH!!! Oh yeah! I visit this place for one reason… LOVE the carnitas here! Meat is juicy and there is a crunchiness to the fat, like chicharron. Succulent and tastefully crunchy at the same time. Mmmm… so good! Its not swimming in sauces OR grease that make your burrito soggy & drippy or your tacos fall apart. Carne asada is also delish(my boys love the carne asada fries here!) and the other meats are just as tasty as other local Mexican restaurants. But hey, its the carnitas that STANDOUT here, in my humble opinion! Very few vendors prepare it like Ortiz. Never have had a problem with service. Never have been sick. Affordable prices. Usually there’s parking on the street. If not, there is also parking behind the restaurant. Diamond in the rough here… 5 stars for the carnitas!

The food here is just OK, Nothing special. Service sucks unless you are a mexican. They seem to get the order mixed up easily. They forgot my drink with my order, Not going back here EVER.

I should have left this place when my shoes were sticking to the floor! Dirty sticky chairs. Let’s just say the food went right through me. :(Yuck. Not going back!!! Almost forgot to mention my husband asked for flour tortillas and got corn. When he brought it to their attention the girl working there argued with him that he had ordered corn. When she finally brought him the flour tortillas she took back the corn ones, hopefully not serving those to the next customer. We haves been here several times and the food is just okay. We only go back because my in-laws like the place. But no more :(Ouch my tummy hurts!!!

OK I am averaging out my original review to 4.5 stars. Have investigated the menu a little further with carnitas plate, carne asada plate, burritos, fajitas, and the taco combo plate. Everything has been good here with more to try. Ask for the salsa verde. Super good. Is my go to taqueria in Ventura.

Look Mr Ortiz– we know that you are trying to be authentic, but can you pay one of your homeboys to make a nice sign for out front? The hand crafted cardboard sign in the corner does not do your food justice. I had three tacos: asada, carnitas, and chorizo, and all were excellent. The two salsas and free chips that you gave me were decent also. I may even come back to get my grub on. But make a fucking nice sign, will you? It’s called advertising. Then you can charge more like Tepatitlan across the street.

Really yummy and very plentiful! We took the whole family here, rambunctious punch drunk kids included on a Friday night. Parking was a snap, the chips and salsa flowed, and the $ 1.50 sangria tempted us! We ordered carnitas and there was no «ita» about it! The chunks of pork were the size of stew meat! Our chicken enchiladas were really delicious too… even our pickiest eater devoured her portion. We all left very happy and full!

Ortiz Taco Time has reopened next door to the old location that burned along with the market it was attached to. While the new restaurant was being built, Ortiz went to Dallas where he was the chef for the Dallas Cowboys. Now he is back and open in a brand new location A new addition to the menu is fresh juice.
