We so enjoyed the visit to this vineyard for the wine tasting! The views are lovely and our wine sampling was a delight. We and our friends sat outside as the wine sips became a pleasure. We purchased teeshirts and received wineglasses with the experience. Beautiful inside as well as out. It was recommended by a friend from this area, thanks.

Off the beaten path is a place that is an oasis in the high country. As you drive along the stoned path, you may feel as though you’re driving into nothing. Then, off the the left you see it: the tiered planting beds of grapes. Rows and rows of grape vines. And then you come into view of the villa that beckons you in. Alcantara Vineyard planted their first vines in 2005, then vinted their first batch in 2008. Of the twelve varietal they offer, three are produced using only grapes grown in their vineyard(2008 Pinot Grigio, 2008 Merlot and NV Confluence II). While you can taste these are young grapes, what I found incredible was the unusual complexity already apparent in the wines of Alcantara. However, there are two additional wines I sampled at their tasting that are worth mentioning, and both come from California grapes: 2006 Nebbiolo and 2006 Meritage. While the latter two stood out as strong wines, I ended up buying the Confluence for its nicely blended bouquet. It must be said that Alantara had the best value for a wine tasting of the four places I went to today. For $ 10, you get to try five of their wines and get to take home a wine glass. In fact, I was so inspired by this vineyard that I’m going to take a Sedona wind country tour just to come back to this place.
