We are from Portland, Oregon and have been pretty spoiled by our city’s coffee and food culture. So we were very pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Vergennes while we were visiting. Fantastic coffee and the best scone that I’ve ever had. We appreciated the minimalist aesthetic but wished the service was a little warmer/friendlier(hence the 4 stars). Enjoyed the Laundry two days in a row, highly recommend!

Have you ever been to France? No. Okay then, well… Have you ever wanted to at least get a taste of France? If your answer is yes, then we should be friends. If your answer is no, contact me and I will give you directions to the nearest psychiatric treatment center… For those of you interested, the pastries here are as real as you are going to get. The owners are French– and boy do they know their art! I have been to countless bakeries in VT and they have all been a disappointment. VT does not understand what a bakery is. Selling donuts, and over sugared cookies does not make you a bakery. What the Vergennes Laundry Wood Fired Bakery does, is a BAKERY! This place is soothing. It it plain but elegant with white walls that shine with welcome. There are a few tables and the main counter– that is it. It is very minimalist and down the point. They had a variety of pastries and of course, I had to try almost all of them, along with the full sized loaf of bread. And are you ready? YUMMY! The pastries were(almost) as delicious as the ones in France(I blame the ingredients here). But really, they were real French pastries which is what you want from a bakery. If you’re a bakery snob(as in you like real food, not just sugar over everything) — this place is for you. So come on down, and let me have a bite of whatever it is you got! :)

We decided to drive to Vergennes on a Saturday morning in November. After trying their cards on rolls all summer at the Shelburne Farmers Market we were hooked. Vergennes is apparently the oldest and smallest city in Vermont. Sweet downtown and free parking. We were the first in on a blustery day and quickly ordered lattes while we looked at their offerings. We tried a scone with jam, a gougeres, and a gateaux au ble noir and took them to our table. The cardamom rooms were just going in the huge wood fired ovens so we would have to wait. Our lattes were delivered to our table and were beautiful and delicious. All the offerings were delicious. Finally the cardamom roll was delivered and our handsome French speaking waiter told us to wait a bit as it was hot but that he would not look if we decided to ignore his advice. We ignored it and dove in and it was delicious. So much better hot than cold. Oh my. We saw others ordered a huge bowl of yogurt and granola or a soft boiled egg with bread and jam and they looked great. They also do lunch. We will be back.

This bakery makes me wish I lived in Vergennes! We found it on our travels to Burlington, VT, and loved it so much, we stopped there on our way home two days later! I highly recommend the mocha or the hot chocolate, they make it with their house made truffles. The bread is fantastic. Go there to enjoy some lovingly made breakfast and coffee and good conversation.

The wait here is ridiculous over 25 min on a Sunday morning for a to go coffee and pastries! yes this is due to a lot of clients but also because it is understaffed and unorganized. So knowing this, don’t come here if you are in a rush. That being said they have the best cannele I have ever had in the United States and far better than most even in Paris. Great coffees as well. Look forward to sitting here for breakfast next time…

Situated on main street in adorable, Vermont-y Vergennes, this was an incredible experience. I had fresh-squeezed orange juice(to order) and the baguette with butter, jam, and cheese. Simple, and pretty much as good as it gets. Others in my party had breakfast sandwiches of ham or tomato, cold-brewed coffee, and we shared an orange-scented morning bun. They weren’t making croissants(which I would have loved to try) but everything was incredible. A bit of a wait, not much seating, but totally worth it. The fruit tarts and financiers all looked incredible and would make a lovely hostess gift if you were coming through this area. A must-try.

Made us feel like home away form home. One of the best americanos I’ve ever had. Pastries are delicious. Hard to pick one they are all great. Best of all is the bright sunny atmosphere. Big tables, with New York Times strewn around, bottles of water. You can just sit and relax. We ended up meeting and having interesting conversations with about everyone there. Just a friendly welcoming place with top notch coffees and food. If this was near home in Manhattan, I’d go every day.

I’m pretty sure that this place serves the best coffee in the world. It isn’t just the coffee, it’s the service, the way it is served, the foam art, the ambience, the ambient smells of whatever is baking… Hands down one of my favorite places on earth. Go. Go because I can’t go anymore and am insanely jealous of people who can. Go because I daydream about spending a lazy morning here. Go because it seriously is the best coffee on earth. To the guy who rated it one star — dude, your loss. You have NO idea what you’re missing out on.

If you are going to be randomly closed in the middle of June, please post your vacation schedule online. I wouldn’t have wasted time going to Vergennes in the first place. Perhaps you could hire someone to manage the shop while you are gone? Now I’m gone and not coming back.

This is not Chef’s Corner in Williston. This is not Mirabelle’s in Burlington. Vergennes Laundry is perfectly Vergennes Laundry and except for that fact that they always seem to run out of everything I want by the time I arrive, this place is almost a perfect 5 stars. It’s not trying to be like every place else. They close for a month(?) in August, just like you’d find in a southern European shop. They make delicious, authentic pastries. The wood fire oven was made painstakingly by a local craftsman. The walls are white, the décor a bit stark, but pleasingly so. I love the linen aprons and wraps that the people who work there wear. You might expect to find this shop in west Soho in NYC on a quiet street, but instead, it’s in Vergennes, and lucky for us that it is, because Vermont is lacking in such unique and charming treasures like this one. I like that they move at their own pace and are doing things in their own way, which seems to take into account their(the owners’) quality of life as well as the quality of life of the people who frequent the bakery. Make no apologies. Just focus on the art of making and baking. A simple, singular and unique experience. Me gusta.

Coffee beverages are perfection. The use a really great quality coffee. Place could be a little cozier, but then no one would ever leave.

We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed some really great sandwiches and some superb coffee. The sandwiches we ordered featured a unique combination of ingredients served on the bakery’s crusty baguettes. We sat elbow to elbow with other folks who were enjoying great conversation, food and drink. Everyone was very friendly, from the people behind the counter to our table mates; overall, it was a very nice time. However, one minor note to the students at the next table: if you’re done eating and drinking(and you clearly were), please make room for other customers. Yes, it’s a lovely place to sit all afternoon with your laptop, but not when people can’t find a table. And maybe there’s a better spot for your $ 500 leather coat than on the only empty chair in the place. Just sayin…

This is a lovely place, beautiful breads and pastries, perfect sandwiches and café au lait– traditional with art on top! Come in relaxed and you will appreciate the care with which everything is prepared.

Probably the most elegant bakery and café in Vermont, offering a limited variety of simple, refined, and exceptional breads, pastries, and coffee. I had the buckwheat cake and drip coffee. Perfection. The décor mirrors the culinary aesthetic. For those of you looking for light or medium roast coffee and a huge variety of commercial-type baked goods, you’ll be really disappointed. For those of you looking for what I described above, you won’t find any better in Vermont. You’re so awesome, and I wish you were in Burlington!

An absolute must-stop when I’m in Vermont. Delicious bread, pastries, coffee — you name it, it’s going to rock your taste buds and make your belly as happy as can be! On our most recent stop this past weekend, we started with a couple croissants and cold brews(on tap — DELICIOUS!), as well as a loaf of bread because, honestly, you can’t leave without a $ 5 loaf of bread that will be some of the most delicious you will have in your life. Then after enjoying our breakfast outside, we went back in for more cold brew, a couple pastries, and chocolate truffles to go. Yum yum yum! A note on the poor service that some have mentioned: while the employees don’t always seem the most friendly, don’t take it personally. I have seen and heard people act like they are best friends with the owners, and only seen the owners curl a half-smile and barely acknowledge their presence. They’re there to provide excellent food and drinks. It’s a unique experience where you don’t necessarily feel incredibly catered to, so it’s definitely not for everyone. I definitely felt kinda brushed off the first time I went, but upon returning I saw that it was just kind of how things were done there. I’m a huge proponent of making every experience delightful, yet this one is delightful in its own way. Give it a chance — you’ll love it. On the other hand, there are some employees who are super duper friendly, so be on the lookout for them if you want to be reassured that you’re business is welcomed(it was a nice reminder for me). Another tip: check their website before you stop in, as they do enjoy a good vacation now and then, closing down the shop in the name of enjoying life for all it’s worth. Good on them.

Tried to get in on the way through Vermont but they were on vacation. Got to hit it on the way back, and boy I am so glad we did. I learned of this place right after they opened because I was engaged in the beverage industry in Vermont at the time. When researching them, I found their idea to be outstanding. The idea translates wonderfully upon entering. The aromas of the wood, sweet bread, and roasted coffees meld together before you even place your order. Awesomeness. The best ham n cheese croissant Ive ever had, and Ive had them from all the best bakeries. The coffee selections are great, and the latte was superb. I can’t wait to come back! Great work, guys!

I can’t wait to get up on Saturday mornings to go deposit the week’s recycling in Vergennes. My reward is heading to the Vergennes Laundry for a Latte and warm, fresh baked goods. The croissants have a wonderful flaky crust with soft, buttery body. Another favorite are the cardamom buns with it’s sweet, buttery flavor, but my all time favorite would be the morning buns. To get them warm I’ll sleep a little late and arrive around 10;30 or so. Sweet, lemony, light, what more can you say.

A former laundromat turned bakery funded by Kickstarter — does it get anymore Vermont than that? The space has been beautifully transformed into a nice little spot to grab a cup of coffee with a pastry. They are the only café in Vermont that I know of who serves Intelligentsia coffee. My only gripe was that they serve their espresso in handle-less cups, which makes for a less than practical way of sipping. They also do Chemex drip for lovers of that method of brewing. Onto their pastries. Their croissants were just as flakey and buttery as the ones I had in Paris. I also swiped the last love bun of the day, which was a cinnamon and sugar bun with lemon and grapefruit zest. It’s hard to beat a place that bakes in-house pastries with quality coffee and espresso. Vergennes Laundry is without question the best bakery café in Vermont.
