Mojave Narrows Regional Park

Very unfriendly front gate ladies. Poor attitudes act as though they hate there jobs.

This place was a very pleasant surprise. I’m not sure what it’s like when it’s busy but when a friend and I stayed here over Halloween there were only ten or twelve other people camping but the place was large enough and were were all spread-​out enough that it was like we had the place to ourselves.
The lake was really a surprise as there were lots of Ducks and it was very relaxing just sitting along the shore. It was an easy walk around the the lake too.
Only a few cons: Making reservations was way more difficult than it needed to be. Tried to make them on-​line on the County’s website and was told to call the park directly (on-​line reservations not excepted). Park office is closed Tuesday & Wednesday’s. Finally got a hold of someone on Thursday but was told there was another number I needed to call in order to make a reservation. I called that number and got Voicemail. Left a message and got a call-​back a couple of hours later from someone who seemed as if she was doing me a favor. Next time if I want to go there in the off-​season I’ll just show-​up and not worry about making a reservation.
Two other drawbacks, as mentioned by other reviewers there are a pair of train tracks less than 100′ from the edge of the campground and they are very busy. At times trains would come-​by every ten minutes or so. Trains didn’t blow their horns at the camp, but at a crossing a mile or so away, although the sound carried. The sound didn’t really bother us, even at night it wasn’t that bad. Sites closer to the water are the farthest from the tracks.
The only other con was our site, along with most of the others I saw were infested with Ants! They were everywhere! I eventually picked-​up some Raid and Ant Baits to keep them out of our trailer. Definitely not a place I’d want to tent camp!
Staff at the campground was friendly. The check-​in process was just the opposite of the reservation process in that it took less than a minute and we were in. The park closes (in winter) at 5PM and with it the entrance gate, however we were given a combination to open the lock so we could come and go as we wanted.
I’ll stay here again the next time I need just a quick overnight stop!

Great place to horseback! Bathrooms kind of spread out but we had a great time fishing. Good place for outdoor activities, very roomy. Would visit again.

Overall it was a great place to camp, we had one site for our trailer, and one site for a tent. Both locations were very nice. Large area for the kids to run around and play ball. The train is very loud and obnoxious, the bathrooms are far for tent campers also. The biggest downfall for our family would have to be that the park closes early, even for campers. Doesn’t seem fair. If your camping at least leave the regular park open for our children I think. But I have to say I would go back, if just for a weekend

Went on Mother’s Day 2015. Not too classy! Kicked every mom out at 5 pm. There was still 3 hrs of daylight left. I even saw some people who got there and set up, and didn’t even have time to finish their BBQ. I just can’t believe a regional park that’s funded through our tax dollars would kick moms out on Mother’s Day. And on top of that charge $ 10 bucs a day.
Shame Shame on who ever is responsible.

WHAT A WAIST OF PRIME PROPERTY IN THE HIGH DESERT!!!

Before I even stepped into the park I already had a bad experience. I wanted to take pictures of signs on «YATES Rd» not of the park but of signs that said «road closed» I thought it was fine since there was no cars coming and I’m not blocking other cars from coming in, however I was wrong. A blonde women comes out and I asked if I could take some pictures of these fences and tree with my car inside since I like to take photos for a hobby. She tells me this is private property, either you (me, the photographer) to pay $ 8 or leave. Making me pay to take a quick shot? How absurd! I know it is private property however I didn’t know you could own a road as well. I’ll say it again my first shot I wanted to take was on «YATES Rd» not even on park property. Don’t go! You’ll regret paying $ 8…

I am so glad to visit the park after many years of it being unusable the lakes are back up and fish able it’s nice to be able to take my kids to a place I have gone to since 1984 .
This year my 4 year old was able to catch his first fish in a real lake instead of a guarantee pond. The camping was nice and family friendly the kids can ride bikes and play on the playground equipment they run and play all day and enjoy a nice campfire at night .
The rates are very reasonable and you can come and go as you please all night if you are camping there without any issue. Make some memories you will never forget go camping and fishing the kids will love it.

Camps were full of trash a lot of regulations after hours but nobody to enforce them. Or first night nobody was there. There was a lot of trash on the ground.
The next night a bunch of people showed up and one group that was farther away than everyone else was playing the radio loud late a night and talking loud cussing a lot (our friends and is had our kids with us). They were also getting high, and they had kids with them.
There was ok tree coverage at a few sites. The trains were pretty terrible and for some reason at night blew their whistle sometimes.
They don’t appear to take care of the bathrooms, they quickly ran out of toilet paper and the seats were falling off with spiders everywhere. The bathrooms by the playgrounds seemed a little nicer but had ants and on one the door didn’t lock, they also ran out of seat covers in many areas and don’t seem to keep up on their maintenance. The showers at those toilets were bigger but pay. The ones by the campgrounds were small and dirty with no curtain between the dressing space and the shower stall, one was missing the door altogether and water pooled in the dressing part the shower and dressing space are both 3’x3’.
No fishing after 5 even when camping there. I don’t think they really care about keeping the place up at all. Tent camping is $ 25 per night plus a $ 5 fee.
Probably better for day trips but camping seems to be last in their last thought there.

Hated the fact that they close at 5. 15 to 5 some dude came over and said you have 15 min to get out! Wtheheck! worth it if u get there early I guess.

I have a hard time deciding what to rate this place 3 or 4 stars. Went with 4 because I don’t think it’s the parks fault that the wind is bad and the train is loud. I am used to train sounds so I didn’t have an issue but I can see why you would. The lake is well stocked with fish although it does have lots of trash in it (another result of the crazy wind). My advice is to wait to set up your tent till sunset when the winds die down. From about 11 pm to 7 pm the winds are crazy. Just plan on it. The horse stables are a nice touch as an additional activity. The water park and climbing park are fun for all the kids. The best part is you can basically toss your pole in from your campsite. No lugging stuff around. We loved it and will be back.

We went camping a few weeks ago and my kids loved it. I have a nine year old and a four year old who rode bikes from the camping area to the playground all day. We fished and caught a ton if fish. We had a large group with us for my sons birthday and never and any problems. The trains didn’t bother me because my husband is the track supervisor of those tracks.

Horrible camping! I’ve done my share of camping and this is by far the worst camping experience I’ve had. First, it’s incredibly windy and the ferocious winds double the time you need to put up your tents. Don’t forget about the freight trains passing by EVERY 20 minutes throughout the whole day and all night. They have deep holes as fire pits which weren’t so bad. We finally got to sleep and were awaken at 3 am by the sticks breaking that were holding up our tent. This isn’t some cheap tent. It’s a $ 300 Pro Bass Shop tent that sleeps 10. We had 8 kids with us and had to evacuate them into the car, which was luckily close by. The older kids, my fiancée and I had to hold up the tent from folding over so we could get all the kids out. We had to quickly take the tent down in the blistering wind and throw it in the car. We had a smaller alternate tent that sleeps 4 that didn’t break. The kids slept in the SUV and my fiancée and I moved the other tent behind the SUV, in the sanded parking grounds, to hopefully avoid some of the wind. The wind was still very strong, but we got through the night. This was supposed to be a quick camping trip overnight with the kids to kick off the spring, but it turned into a nightmare! We will NEVER come here again and we do not recommend this to anyone else. If you want desert camping and fishing, you might as well go to Lake Perris. Same price, much larger campgrounds and a lake you’re kids can actually swim in if they wanted.

Way too expensive for fishing, the lakes are pretty much mud holes. Not worth the money. If your looking for a pay and fish lake go to Jess’ ranch which is literally down the street.

Do not camp here. You will be sorry if you do. The trains are deafening and they run throughout the night. The wind is ferocious and the campsites are bleak mud patches. Booked 2 nights and left after one.

LOVE Mojave Narrows. If you haven’t been there in awhile, you might not know they are working hard to rebuild the waterways. Pretty exciting stuff since these have been destroyed due to the flooding years ago. The county is spending a great deal of money to rebuild the splendor this place has always had. It’s beautiful, and relaxing there and no matter how busy it is, you’ll find a special place for your family or party that will make you feel like you’re secluded from the nearby chaos in town. There’s a great little water park for children, with tons of water works that comes in super handy on hot desert days. Horseback riding, and cows, and other nearby animals give you and your family a few other fun things to do. Past years, there were paddle boats and some other fun water toys. I hope that all comes back when the waterways are back.
So here’s my only beef, and it’s a doozy, enough to take my review from 5 stars to 4 stars. County and park management, I hope you’re reading this. Up until this year, the park offered membership for just this park, and it was quite reasonably priced. Now your only option for annual passes are for a full San Bernardino county pass :(. If you live in the desert, you are typically visiting parks in the desert, not in the whole of San Bernardino. The passes are OUTRAGEOUSLY priced now, and not something that the average consumer would ever willingly pony up. What this results in, is less visits to the park, lower attendance rates, and less pass sales. Now, to visit the park we have pay $ 10 per day, and we go far less than we would if park annual passes were for this park only.

If you are not familiar with the area, you might want to investigate on your own more prior to reserving a space at this park. Rates do not warrant what the park has to offer. $ 35 a night for hookups. While the County Park website shows water surrounding the park (deceiving), there is no water. It is dried up and the only portion of water is a distance away from campground and for fishing only (requires State Fishing License, plus $ 8 park fee). The website does not indicate that campsites sit right next to the busiest train tracks in the area. Trains pass every 10 minutes. No wonder the park showed openings!!! Won’t come back here!

Gorgeous, relaxing, spacious and quiet. Just spent a couple of hours at the park for the first time. Granted, it’s a weekday, but even with several campers there, the place was quiet and serene. Horseback riding and fishing is available, and there’s a nice playground for young children.
I enjoyed my time under the shade of a tree feeding ducks and getting a little work done on my laptop (must bring your own WiFi, btw). Even though my weather app said it was 91 degrees, the ample shade & cool grass made it feel no more than 80 or so. Warm, but not uncomfortable.
