At first glance, I really liked this office. It’s pretty convenient to get to, and parking is free and plentiful. The office staff and hygienist are really nice. But I was very disappointed in Dr. Phan. I went in for a basic cleaning and exam, and she started trying to upsell me right away, strongly suggesting I get some veneers at $ 1400 a pop. When I repeatedly said I wasn’t interested, she kept telling me how much better she thought it would look. When she finished the exam, she said I supposedly needed two fillings, one in the back of my mouth, and one to replace some cosmetic work in the front that was getting stained. She couldn’t do the work the same day, which was an inconvenience as far as having to take off work twice. When scheduling my appointment, I asked her to clarify whether both the procedures she told me to get done were necessary, because I was unclear if one of them was actually a cavity or not. She responded that she strongly recommended it. I had to rephrase the question several times before she told me that it was just a cosmetic thing and not medically necessary or related to my health in any way. I made it clear that I was only interested in getting my cavity filled, so I scheduled a followup appointment for that. When I came to my followup appointment, she said she was doing both the procedures. We went through the 20 questions game again so I could have her clarify that only one of these things was medically necessary, and I once again told her that was the only thing I wanted done. She gave me the numbing shots in my gum, and then I waited for about 35 – 40 minutes before she actually came to do the procedure. It would have been nice if I had a shorter wait and a later appointment time, like I was trying to get. She was using some new equipment for the filling, and it took a while for them to get it working, so that added another 5 minutes or so to my appointment. Once she got it working, it was pretty fast and efficient, and the filling seems fine. Still, I was overall unhappy with the constant attempts to upsell me and the lack of transparency as to what I actually needed to get done for health reasons. I’m switching to a different dentist.

We caught two wrong charges. One was for $ 600 for cavity fillings when it turns out our insurance covered it all. Another was a procedure they performed during a routine cleaning. They didn’t ask if I wanted the extra debridement cleaning or tell me there was an added cost for it. Unprofessional. Will not be returning.
