We stopped here this summer while on vacation. It has everything going for it. It is scenic, fantastic architecture, amazing history and not crowded. The rotunda is impressive with huge paintings depicting the exploits of George Rogers Clark, brother of William Clark of Lewis and Clark fame. The entire area is steeped in history and well worth a visit to Vincennes if you are in the area,

Wonderful experience! The National Park staff was so courteous and informative. I had a picnic lunch on site and it was a beautiful experience on the banks of the Wabash. The French and Indian cemetery was certainly something to take in. Some 4,000 bodies mostly unknown graves. A must do and see if you are in Vincennes. The giant monument was absolutely gorgeous. If you walk into the visitors center the park ranger will gladly give you a private tour.

Took a 2, 3, and 9 year old to the memorial. We enjoyed looking across the river, running up stairs, playing in the grass, and watching the traffic over the bridge. The memorial was closed since we went in the evening but we still enjoyed ourselves!

A magnificent monument in Indiana! We were traveling from St. Louis to Cincinnati, and made a stop in Vincennes to see some of the historic sites. The ranger was so helpful and knowledgeable, and we both learned a lot about an integral part of the Revolutionary War(yes, in Indiana). Spend an hour or so here, watch the movie, and make a stop in the old cathedral. We were the only visitors there during our visit — we likened it to Washington DC, but without the annoying crowds!

If you’re ever in the small city of Vincennes, IN on the banks of the mighty Wabash river, stop into the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park run by the National Park Service. Sadly, most Americans don’t know their history and how important select events were early in our nations history. Right after the revolutionary war, the US owned everything from the coast to the Appalachian mountains. On the other side of the mountains was British territory. If it wasn’t for small, decisive battle at Vincenne’s, led by American George Rogers Clark, the Northwest territory would never have become American territory. This victory opened the way for Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to become states. Also, this opened expansion to the Pacific ocean. The site consists of a very nice visitor center and a large memorial. The memorial is accessible by tour only. Everything is free, just ask the rangers to give you a tour. The memorial is most western example of Greek revival architecture in the US. Inside the memorial are flags and murals depicting the battle and victory. If you’re in the area, stop in to this wonderful free park and pay your respects to one of the most important victories the US has ever achieved.
