Took my sister here for her bachelorette party. Show started super late and we had to miss it. Thanks.

I haven’t been in a few years but I love this bar! It’s smaller than the other one in the area & I think more relaxed. Was my 1st gay bar & I have great memories here. They will always be a great gay bar & I hope to come back soon!

Friendly enough staff. Drinks are a bit pricey when happy hour is over but that’s to be expected Furniture is worn, some of it even broken and its darker than most places so it gets difficult to see where you’re going. But I may venture out there again some day

Not a smoker so the atmosphere is often cloaked in a cloud of smoke. The shows are alright, the Drag Queens often take things and attempt to make it as personal as it can get, a little too personal sometimes. yes it can be funny, however there is a line. The bartenders are always extremely attentive and nice, and that’s about as much as it’ll get. On special events the cover charge is blown WAY out or proportion.

I went here to support a friend going for the $ 10,000 prize in the talent competition! I didn’t like the cover charge. ITS A BAR!!! Drinks are priced reasonably. Beware non-smokers. People can smoke anywhere inside!!!

I’ve been coming to Ambush for about 4 years now and it is an awesome place! Drinks are cheap and strong, bartenders are hilarious and witty. Power hour(Thursdays and Saturdays 8 to 9) is 25 cents how can you go wrong with that! Sundays are SIN nights(service industry prices). The DJ plays a pretty varied selection. Drag shows are completely worth it! I go about once a week and have to say its an amazing experience. There is a cover after 9 on Fridays and Saturdays but it is normally only 3 for 21+ and 5 for 18+

I don’t frequent gay bars nor do I see male dancers or drag queens very often but it was a blast!!! I went there at first very hesitant. I don’t know if this is a Virginia thing but since when was it okay to put a club/bar in a strip mall next to a laundromat? Plus I couldn’t bring my purse in… which was extremely inconvenient seeing as I was wearing shorts without pockets. My first instinct when preparing to see male dancers was to get white girl wasted. I ordered a Blue Motorcycle which was super strong. The dancers came out which surprisingly didn’t make me uncomfortable– they were awesome! I’ve never seen Magic Mike but I’m guessing that’s what the whole movie was like. The server was very attentative– even with how busy it was. The drag queens are so much fun and I had a great time. There are some handsome gay men there, though, that’s for sure. The crowd is actually pretty versatile.

Ive never written a review about a gay nightclub before… but this place looks just like your local dive bar. Location: It looks kinda shady hiding out in a strip mall next to a laundrymat and convenience store. Went in on a friday night: cover was 5 $ Scene: a gay bar– but it wasnt too slutty. There was a pole adjacent to the dance floor that a lot of girls(and guys) were getting comfortable with all night. The dance floor is smaller than ive seen at other clubs– but it was big enough to hold the crowd. The crowd was not rowdy– everyone was respectable of everyone else. I think i was the only straight one there that night, got asked to dance by a few girls, and even when i said i was straight– they still danced with me, which was cool :) –No purses allowed. So, if i want to grab some gum, touch up my hair/makeup or use my chapstick– IVEGOTTOGOTOTHECAR. Not cool. — Our server, a slender white male(sorry, that doesnt help much) was VERYATTENTIVE to our birthday table. props to him :):) — Music: a really good mix of techno, pop and hip hop. He went with the flow and played the cha-cha slide twice– which was great cause it brought eveyrone out on the floor! Drinks: My long island was 12 $(my jaw almost dropped, thats like NYCPRICESDUDE!). and it was the worst long island ive ever had. IT tasted like grandma’s lime juice. The male bartender was pretty rude to me(i think hes the one who made my drink). there was a female bartender and she was sweet! I asked her to cook me up a fruity drink– and she made me two drinks– both SPOTONINTASTEANDSTRENGTH, and didnt charge as much :) Overall, if roomate wanted to head over there again, i would for the company, but the charge for my Long island was a huge buzz kill. Also, since this is an 18+ bar, you get to see a lot of kiddies running around. Drag show was JUSTALRIGHT, ive seen better drag shows. She looked like someone had a gun to her head and was making her dance lol. i kept my dollar bill to myself :)

Very friendly staff and creative drinks. The show was very entertaining as well. Not much dancing but enough to keep my interest. The bar looks like a local watering hole but has the feel of a bigger city bar. Very laid back and a few good looking people. I would very much recommend this bar to anyone who is in the area.

I know reside in S California, but Ambush was my stomping ground for at least 10 years. Every time I would move away from Va Beach & come back… Ambush is still there and still wonderful. A very gay friendly bar, open to all… great drag shows! The bartenders and staff are amazing!

This is a really awful gay bar. Now that the inbetween is closed, it has got to be Hampton Roads worst bar. I’m sorry to say that the drinks are weak and over priced, the entertainment(drag shows and ‘dancers’) is generally boring and lasts far too long, and the crowd is sketchy. This is Virginia Beach’s only 18+ option on most nights. I guess if you are under 18 and it’s not Thursday, Saturday(Wave nights) or Sunday(Cactus) then you might consider going here. I would opt for a movie and staying home, though.

Yep, it’s a gay bar. There’s no hiding this fact. You will see at least one or two of the following things when you’re there– a skinny dude with his shirt off, bopping along with the music; a big dude in drag; or a group of three or more well-dressed men with a table full of drinks not talking to each other but texting quietly to themselves. And the music is loud. But not annoying to listen to. If you’re okay with all of that and don’t mind having your ID scrutinized at the door followed by a lingering once over from the eyes of the doorman, you will find a great place for cheap drinks served by bartenders that take care of you. We had at least 3 Blue Moons(on draft) and 5 vodka drinks and wound up with a tab of $ 25. Apparently it’s even cheaper during happy hour. It’s easy to find– it’s in that really old strip mall down the street from Lynnhaven Mall. Once you get there all you have to do is follow the trail of glitter that leads to the door. Really. Some people finish off putting on make up with powder, but most people here apparently use glitter. And if you’re not into the dance floor area, there is the other well-lit area of the bar with a couple pool tables. I’ve been there more than once with a group of friends and it’s been great. Occasionally they will have drag shows– which is a treat that has no way of me describing it at all. It must be experienced. Yep.

This bar is mainly for the gays, but it is a very mellow bar to meet up your friends or your partners. It has several pool tables, a karaōke on some nights, and a nice sized bar with a plenty of seats. The bartenders usually make really good drinks and the drinks are not really expensive. If you want to host a special party, they often love to work out with you to make it happen. So, they deserved some stars.
