Classic Diner

I have been coming here for years. I love the breakfast. It is a hometown local diner. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Do not expect gourmet, expect diner food. The pies are amazing.

We really enjoyed Classic Diner. The place was packed! Everyone in there seemed to be enjoying their meal. My family had a rather simple ticket; all pancakes with one variation. My wife had the Finnish pancakes, which looked very similar to like a buckwheat crêpe. It was topped with Raspberry butter. The dish was divine! My daughters and I had Chocolate Chip pancakes. They were wonderful as well. The staff was super kind, even giving out a rose to each mother in there. You can tell that this place has a lot of regulars and loyal customers. We are glad we were able to explore this wonderful little diner. With an open view of the chefs at work, It was really cool being right there; almost in the thick of things. I look forward to many more breakfasts here. We are fortunate to have this little slice of breakfast paradise.

I’ve been here 3x before leaving a review, breakfast twice and dinner once. I must say this place is a hidden gem within Virginia beach for some good ol home cooking! Each time we had a different server and they were great! Service was always on point, drinks filled constantly, fresh food and cooked right on the grill in front of you and so on. You really feel like you are at home but no need to cook haha :)
The country fried steak meal AND add a banana nut pancake is the best breakfast you’ll ever have, trust me on this one! i had it twice and both times were amazing.
I also had the jumbo burger for dinner, cooked to perfection.
I got to know a few people there so far, I mentioned to Mike the only things I would add is fresh cracked pepper and some non high fructose corn syrup jelly. Other than that addition this place is a straight 5 Unilocal star in my book!

I have not been back here since I visited a couple weeks ago and witnessed something disgusting while I waited for my to go food. I’d ordered a breakfast burrito and noticed the main cook (slim man, little hair) was not there. The secondary chef with glasses and a cap made my food, which was great. However, as I sat with little to do beside people watch… the heavier chef came in fresh from the grocery store, jar of relish and cash in hand. He handed the cash and receipt to the waitress at the cashier stand, then walked behind the bar and started putting toast through the toaster. DID NOT WASH HIS HANDS! Gross! I’m so glad my food wasn’t made by him. I cannot go here again.

Ambiance was very welcoming when you first walk in. Was a Saturday morning so it was busy but we got a booth right away. Smells like breakfast cooking and it made me hungry. I got the biscuits and gravy and my friend got the short stack pancakes. Both were delicious and we cleaned our plates. Our waitress was amazingly friendly. Only odd part was the going from the friendliness of our waitress to an almost rude cashier. Definitely will go back again, just hope they hire a better cashier.

Great little locals breakfast spot. Nothing fancy, just your basic breakfast items but they do them right. Prices are very reasonable too. Service has been spotty, sometimes great, sometimes just OK, but never awful. If you’re coming on a weekend be sure to come early

I have eaten in here a few times now and have enjoyed it every time. Breakfast is really good and the staff are always friendly. Lunch is the same food is always great. It has taken me a few stops in to decide how to review this place. I have had biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, a burger and the club sandwich all the food has been great. On to dessert the pie is wonderful all homemade in house that almost never happens anymore and it really makes the whole trip worth it. The crowd is a little older I would guess average age is 45 to 50, and it seems they all are at least weekly customers kind of like Cheers everyone seems to know everyone. I will definitely return.

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots! We love this diner and the waitresses that make this place a welcoming place to visit. Thanks for always greeting us with a smile and remembering what we love to eat. :-)

Great restaurant! We are always happy when we come. They have excellent diner food. Nothing fancey, quick, friendly, and humble.

Always friendly always a good time coming in on a weekend morning. Its always beens packed when i come but ive always had good service. Nothing on the menu has dissapointed. If your looking for a great dinner in this area that isnt a waffle house this is the spot!

This is our all-​time favorite place to eat breakfast other than our house. It is a treat all around. We love Mom and Pop places to eat because everything is homemade or close to it. The food is always amazing from the pancakes to the waffles to the burgers. We have been going here for years and we love it. I admit they make better pancakes than I do. If you are looking for great breakfast, great servers, and great time, you should go here with your family, friends, and coworkers. You will not regret it.

Very good food. better than ihop or huddle house. Had the chicken fried steak. Home cooking, not pre made. Fast, friendly service. This will be my regular diner spot. Just keep a good eye out when looking for it. I almost couldn’t find it.

Exactly what you would look for in a diner. Friendly service, fast service, coffee refills and smiles. At this diner you see a lot of locals to me that means it’s good. I would definitely come back when I’m in the area.

Cozy family atmosphere with amazing food! It’s become a weekend tradition for us! If you come for breakfast you must try the potato pancakes. The staff here is super friendly and always welcoming. Best desserts too! If you come on Sunday, wear your team colors and give the staff a hard time about who they like! The people and the food here are the best! Don’t take my word for it! Come see for yourself!

Chipped beef was delish! I would highly recommend this place to locals and visitors.

This was our first time visiting The Classic Diner and it definitely won’t be our last! Our waitress was extremely friendly, warm and welcoming and she made it a wonderful dining experience.

Super Classic/​retro in feel and décor. Not quite as full blown as «Silver Diner» if you remember that gem. This place has more of a homey feel, I suspect they have regulars here a few days a week. It has a bit of a small town vibe where everyone knows everyone and every once in a while a stranger passing through stops in. I think Classic Diner is likely most popular among the 40+ crowd. The staff were really friendly and when needed apologetic. The french toast was good, plenty of cinnamon, not quite Texas-​sized; for the price I would have appreciated another slice.
Décor:
I like the black ceiling paired with the red carpet. The retro art, photo prints and movie posters are a nice touch. There was sadly artwork over every booth but mine. I had to stretch my neck to take a gander at Casablanca and Gone With the Wind posters.

This is not a «real» diner from the New York perspective that I come from, but it is charming and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. They are very quick to refill the coffee and they provide a small pot of milk if you ask. The portions are huge and everything was piping hot and very tasty. They put American cheese in my omlette and I requested Swiss, they were super quick remaking it for me and it was fantastic. They even comped our coffees and my son’s hot chocolate. Not necessary at all, but a very nice gesture. Great food, great service, and a great price! Next time we are in Virginia Beach we will come back.

This place is packed with locals but they make you feel right at home. It has a pleasant vibe with that old school feel to it. The food is great! Moderate sized portions and tons of flavor. It’s a bit of what I considered growing up a «Greasy Spoon» but it’s definitely not a bad thing!
If I ever miss home, or feel like I need a nice home cooked meal, I just drop by and my problem is resolved when I take my first step in the door!

This place was PACKED when we came in, leaving either the table right next to the door or a couple of stools at the counter overlooking the grill. We took the counter.
This isn’t fancy cooking, this is FAST short order cooking. Eggs, pancakes, omelettes, biscuits and gravy. Is it healthy? Hell no! Is it filling and delicious? Hell yes?
And it’s a locally-​owned business!
