Came here on a day off to de-stress and enjoy a few adult beverages. The atmosphere here is pretty relaxed, as I would imagine, a lot of bob marley was playing that day. Of course, Red Stripe is great with tacos, so I followed suite and ordered the BBQ Fish Tacos. Needless to say, I demolished them, only after I had to add some hot sauce to it. The waiter was very attentive, it wasn’t too busy when I came in so we chatted a few times. Great portions. I’ve had my share of fish tacos but this was pretty up there. You can tell there are a lot of regulars who come here based on how the bartenders were speaking to them. Keep doing what you’re doing FF!

The fish tacos are amazing. The portions are great. Even the kids meals were large. We will be coming back! Also the wait staff is on point and takes care of your needs without bothering you.

Stopped here for lunch after reading the great reviews. Service was awesome and super quick. Restaurant is very clean and inviting. The food… awesome. Had he blackened tuna tacos and hubs had the cowboy burger both were cooked perfect and flavorful. Wish it was closer to me but will definitely make the trek back.

Best tuna wrap I have ever had. I do miss their wine specials. However I’ll still come for the wrap.

Really impressed with both the food and atmosphere. The service was excellent. They have great daily specials. On Tuesdays they have $ 4 house margaritas and $ 2 tacos(decent size tacos, not the tiny street tacos). Their tacos have a fresh lime kick and they use high quality meat. If I lived in this area I would be a regular at this place. Yum!

My family and I were on our annual VA Beach vacation and looking for a restaurant with variety for many people. There were 14 adults and 2 children in our party and the staff did not even bat an eye when we came in to request seating without calling ahead(it was a short notice decision made by the group to eat out). The staff is friendly, super accommodating, and professional. We were seated much sooner than the 30min they suggested. The food is great and there is a lot of variety, even I, a vegetarian, found several options available. We will definitely be back in the future during our annual family VA Beach trips.

I have been to Flip Flops a few times and to me, the food is just okay. The service is always top notch and the restaurant is very clean and well maintained. What keeps me coming back is the sesame ginger/soy dipping sauce that comes with the tuna bites. Good god, I would like to bathe in that stuff and then bathe in it some more. It is truly AMAZING. If the owner bottled the sauce, I would seriously consider ordering a pallet of the shit. Well… depending on the shelf life of course ;) As Arnold says, «I’ll be back.»

I was hearing mixed reviews about this place myself. Of course I was curious because of the DDD visit. But honestly, I’ve tried a few spots that«Guy» has visited and raved about, only to be disappointed. I finally tried Flip Flops Grill and Chill recently and was pleasantly surprised! The place has a cool beach theme of course; I would have been surprised if it didn’t, especially with the restaurant name being such. The booths are wooden, the place is bright, and very importantly — clean. Our waitress was super friendly and very enthusiastic! She answered all our questions, made recommendations, and was very efficient. For lunch, we ordered calamari for our app — it was tender and delicious. I loved the sauce. For my main course, I had a Shrimp Po Boy with mashed potatoes(I’m not so much a fan of sweet potato fries, and those are the only fries they have.) The shrimp were so crispy on the outside, perfectly fried, and seasoned, and the sauce complimented it well. The mashed potatoes were so buttery. Probably not the healthiest, but so delicious. My girlfriend had the Blackened Tuna tacos. She said they were good, but she was not a fan of the sauce. I loved my first experience here. I would definitely recommend it, and would definitely return!

Another DDD stop where the food is mediocre and the service underwhelming. Tater tot nachos were the high point of lunch. Caesar salad was over dressed but passable. The seared Ahi salad was in desperate need of seasoning and was served with mushy tomato slices. The atmosphere was nice and staff friendly but our waiter didn’t really know the menu or specials but he was young and probably not very experienced. The waitresses serving near by tables were much better at explaining menu items. Bottom line, we won’t be rushing back but don’t feel compelled to steer anyone away either.

Stopped by here for a quick lunch. Had the fried fish tacos and they were just ok. Coming from Florida we have really good authentic tacos so I may be biased. The star of the meal was the tater tot nachos. It was like taking my favorite school lunch food and adultifying it. Simple and brilliant. The mix of cheese, onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños was so worth.

I blame the lack of a 5th star on me since I came for a meeting today, a lunch meeting. Located in red mill near sandbridge this is defiantly a locals local spot and not for the faint in heart merely by the distance. Honestly, I can here because Guy and the drive ins, diners, dives crew came here. I ordered the corn and crab fritters like a good southern Virginian. It’s served with a spicy creamy sauce. They were crispy and warm. And the sweet tea kept coming. These tasted like a wet crab cake a Greek old school steak house would serve. Crunchy yet tasty. The bites of nostalgia kept me going back for me. So good. And a good portion size too. Naturally i ate what Guy ate– the BBQ fish taco. I honestly didn’t have time to view the menu and knew this was a easy call to try since guy had it. The tacos were soft and tasty. No other sides were served and I honestly didn’t even value the price. Every bite was perfect. I could see all of the ingredients from the show: BBQ sauce, mahi, crème fresh, avocado, and cole slaw. Everything came together and was perfect. I must come back and enjoy more food and read the menu finally!!! Happy eating, food lovers.

I am very suprised that this was featured on diners, drive ins, and dives on food network. The food was good but nothing spectacular. I had the BBQ fish tacos, which were good but had a vinigar based coleslaw that was too much for me. Another person in my group had the shrimp po boy. There was not enough shrimp considering the size of the roll it came on.

I’m only giving one star because I have to give something. Our friends had been here before and raved about the tuna cheesesteak and how great of an experience they had so we went back as a group this evening. We were seated promptly and asked for a menu and started to order drinks. The margarita on the drink menu is listed that it is made with vodka and our friend asked if they could make it with tequila instead. Innocent question. The waiter got an attitude and said«uhm yea? We have a full bar. I can do anything» in a very rude tone. We felt a little awkward but went on about things. I looked over to the bar and saw our waiter making fun of our friend for asking about the tequila with a bartender and another guy. We then asked to speak with the owner and it was him who our waiter was making fun of our friend with. I could not believe that an OWNER of an establishment would be gossiping and making fun of a customer RIGHTINFRONTOFTHEM. The owner got defensive and rude. Laughed it off like it was no big deal, said«do you see how many people are here?» in a tone of voice that said it made no difference to him if we were there or not. Did not offer an apology, didn’t offer to compensate our drinks, NOTHING. He laughed at us for being offended that the staff of an establishment was making fun of us. We asked for the check to pay for the drinks we had already received and left. I will say after working in customer service for years that I was appalled at the fact that they didn’t offer to comp the check. I could not believe that not a single person apologized for the behavior of the staff. We will never go back to an establishment that the staff, management, and owner feels it’s acceptable to poke fun at customers. This was unacceptable and I will NEVER say a good thing about this restaurant.

Hands down the BEST fried fish tacos I’ve ever had!!! So freaking good! The fish was fresh, hot & crispy. The tortillas were set on the grill for a minute to get a little crunch. The flip flop sauce is just like awesomeness is your mouth. I don’t know what the flip flop sauce is but I like it. The hot sauce that they bring out is really good! Just be careful it pours FAST! The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly. They were so good. My friend had the shrimp and chicken burrito and that thing was HUGE! And my other friend had a po boy sand which. Needless to say everyone ate everything on their plates. Except me… I took home 1 of the 3 tacos for my handsome love to have. It was in my car for like 4 hours. And it was still good. He said it was the best fish taco he’s ever had even after it sat in my car for 4 hours!(he didn’t know it was in my car that long shhhh) I’ll be back! And I’ll be back to check out that whiskey bar the owner is opening next door!

How can a place not even be open for dinner on a sunday during the summer for tourists or locals? And your tacos stunk the first time we ate there. I was so disappointed when we went to try you guys again but you guys were closed. Service was okay.

Pros: The Food network BBQ Fish tacos were flavorful and fresh. The service was efficient and nice. The setting is relaxing: you can seat inside or on the shaded patio. Cons: The BBW Fish tacos entrée had only three small tacos. The size portion was too small. I was still truly hungry when I left the restaurant. Thus, I ordered the Florentina panini to the nearby Rigoletto Italian bakery and café afterwards.

Lunch time means healthy choices and a bbq fish taco is healthy, right? I know it is because it’s got fish and veggies and a really tasty aioli on top. I mean, something this delicious has got to be healthy. Yep, it’s a Diners Dives and Dumbasses restaurant and there’s the big cheesy picture of the head Dumbass up on the wall. But who am I to differ when the meal is this yumbly? Decent service, good food. This seems like a pretty cool hangout way out here in the sticks. Other than the picture on the wall but you can just face the other way.

One of my friends — we’ll call him Josh for sake of review — recently told me my entire business trip to Virginia Beach might as well be written off as a failure if I didn’t go to Flip Flops. I don’t know about you, but I took that as a fairly bold recommendation. A long-time resident, I’m fairly versed in VA Beach proper, but Flip Flops was new to me. That’s because it’s over in Red Mill — far removed from the tourist traffic at the beachfront. To me, this is a great choice for a location, because it ensures the locals keep this classy bistro for themselves. The menu is a fabulously nourishing spin on Caribbean. By that, I mean most of the plates are customizable with different proteins, the ingredients are fresh, and I didn’t see a single entrée that had me thinking, «Ugh, it is going to hurt when I run this off tomorrow.» It was all highly functional food. Purists(and any tourists who would stumble into here had it been located on the beachfront) would lazily declare it a bastardization of the genre. I would argue the style offered on this menu presents the natural evolution of delicious but horribly unhealthy food into a more logical format compatible with the needs of active people. And I offer as proof the two, yes count them TWO negative reviews are from out-of-town Guy Fieri groupies who I guess were expecting silver platters and chalices. For me, all that takes is a bottle of Longboard and some fresh steak tacos and I’m thrilled. But I also tried what would become one of my all-time favorite appetizers: warm flatbread with black bean hummus and honey tahini. Holy mother of Atlantis. This dip tasted like it was hand made by naked surfer chicks humming Suzanne Vega songs next to the fire on the beach. Seriously, I peeked into the kitchen I was so convinced(there were NO surfer girls in the kitchen oh god). Bottom line: Josh was right. I found my new go-to food spot in the 757. Don’t tell the tourists!
